Oatmeal Cherry White Chocolate Cookies

Oatmeal Cherry White Chocolate Cookies

Here’s a fun game to play:

Grab a chef.  Any chef will do.

Ask that chef what their favorite Oatmeal Cookie recipe is.  I’ll bet you my favorite slippers (not that you would want those) that their favorite recipe for Oatmeal Cookies is the recipe right there on the Quaker Oats can.

I know… too easy right?  Take the easy.  Accept the easy.  Some things are complicated.  Other things are as simple as the Oatmeal Cookie recipe that I’ve been making since I was old enough to reach the counter.

Embrace the good, then add cherries and chocolate.

Because I simply can’t help myself, I jazzed these beauties up a bit with dried cherries and white chocolate chips.  Use any combination of dried fruit and chocolate you like.  The base recipe, with brown sugar and old fashioned oats is gorgeous enough with or without the jazz.  Keep in mind that chocolate does make everything better.  Fact.

Oh my gosh, I just posted a very similar recipe on my blog a few days ago, it was oatmeal cranberry white chocolate cookies, recipe via Ocean Spray Craisins. They were one of the best cookies I’ve ever eaten, and I’m sure that this recipe from Quaker with the cherries tastes really nice too! :)

Mmm that look gorgeously thick and chewy. I just made some oatmeal cookies, too, but of the thin & crisp variety. I like both.

Yum! I love oatmeal cookies. I just made a batch that called for dried cherries, but I couldn’t find them so I had to sub in craisins.

Wow, that looks amazing! I’m new to the blog, but a confirmed foodie. I have always used the Quaker recipe, but I have a troubleshooting question: the last 2-3 times I have made them, they turned out all funky, collapsed flat and all gooey. In a bad way. I have tried experimenting with less butter, with softened butter, etc. and I’m not sure why they are being weird. Could you help?!

This recipe looks fantastic. Would you or do you chill the dough… like with chocolate chip cookies?

Cherries…instead of raisins–great idea. And, I love white chocolate. We just made a white chocolate frosting for strawberry cake!

I love the combination of white chocolate and cherry. I had it in a yeast bread the other day, and it was quite divine. So, I can only imagine that this white chocolate cherry oatmeal cookie is beyond divine. They look absolutely delicious!

I think the dark brown sugar makes the Quaker cookies just that much better. I always put a bit of fresh nutmeg in too for some depth.

And my guilty secret is that I tend to leave out the dried fruit and just add TONS of chocolate!

these look great! cherries and white chocolate seem like the perfect addition!

I just made oatmeal cookies last night and was just about to blog the recipe – how timely! I actually call my favorite my mom’s recipe, but I tweak it a bit each time. Last night, I added 1/2 C dried cranberries and 1/2 C raisins, plus a generous C of Ghirardelli bittersweet chips. Yum. I also add a bit of cinnamon… Have a great weekend and enjoy those cookies.

Delicious. For a little salty, try adding some pistachios!

I have all the ingredients to try these tomorrow, does chocolate semi-sweet work as well if I don’t have the white chocolate…guess I’ll see. Sounds yummy.

I have been trying to get the recipe for oatmeal cookies with white chocolate chips and cranberries from a friend. I completely forgot that I haven’t received it but now, who needs it? I’ve got this one! Love your blog, Joy. I tell all my friends and fellow food lovers about it. I check your blog everyday too hoping to find something scrumptious and you never disappoint. Thanks!

I just made strawberry (fresh from farmer’s market) chocolate oatmeal cookies that I thought were the best cookies I’ve ever had … these are sounding like they will be competition … can’t wait to try them.

Kate March 9, 2009 at 4:01 pm

I like to tart them up even more by soaking whatever dried fruit I’m using in just a titch of rum or Irish whiskey.

last night while getting pizza dough and beer at the grocery store, i grabbed white choc chips and dried cherries and the boyfriend grinned. He responded “what are you making and do i get to have some?” I’ll be making these tonight if he’s lucky. ;)

And, just curious, is there much of difference btwn using old fashioned oats VS quick oats?? Quick oats is what I tend to always have in the cupboard.

Sinful. Absolutely. Purely. They were comfort food in the beginning and will be at the end of time, but now they are just a tad bit more marvelous.
Cherries. White chocolate.
Blissful in all their glory. This recipe is a keeper.

Made these last night and teenager took some to school. Just got a text from him and he wants to make more for his friends because they never had oatmeal cookies with cherries and white chocolate. How deprived children they are!!! This is now a family favorite. Thanks!

I made these today for a brunch/house renovation party, and people went WILD for them! I used dried cranberries and dark chocolate chips, and that seems to have hit the spot, because every one of them was eaten and folks were raving. So simply, and thus so perfect. I love your blog, by the way.

THANK YOU for posting this. I tend to buy no name brand, organic oats and so have never had this perfect recipe at my disposal…and it is perfect! I upped the “healthy” (haha) by including a half cup of flax meal to the batter. It added a subtle nutty taste.

Your blog is wonderful, thank you for your amazing photos that entice me to get into the kitchen myself!

Holy macoroni these cookies are super delightful! Thank you fot the recipe. I did tweek it a bit by adding dried cranberries and some almond extract and they came out so tasty and soft. I sent these to work with my boyfriend to give to some of the ladies in his office and they all emailed me to tell me that they loved them. This recipe does make alot of cookies (YAY!) so it is tempting to be selfish and just eat them all (guilty and proud of it!). Anywho thank you Joy I love your blog. You always seem to read my mind and know exactly what Im craving. Next Im onto some of these polenta recipes. Have a great day!

Thank you so much for posting this wonderful recipe! Made these about a week ago… right now we have a friend of ours living with us while he finds an apartment and a good job. He said they were phenomenal.

The best part? He cooks for a living. :)

(And it’s even better because I can now bribe him into making me his awesome fennel mashed potatoes. So once again… thank you very, very much!)
