I had exactly too much fun this past weekend, so much fun that I seem to have left my camera in a different city. At least I know what city it’s in…. it just doesn’t happen to be the city that I’m in, making blogging about muffins and such difficult.
So!
Time for a distraction!
Hey… look over here! It’s fabric! Why? What’s this all about?
Mom and I had a little downtown Los Angeles fabric shopping adventure last weekend. We braved walls and walls, stores after store of fabric… for you. It’s blinding friends, absolutely blinding. The only thing that cures fabric blindness…
…is a street side hot dog from this lady. No, it doesn’t have to be pretty to be delicious.
Why do Mom and I need so much fabric? We’re making aprons. For you! Mom is doing most all of the sewing. I handle most of the standing around and supporting. We’re going to throw together an Etsy type situation and get you all fitted up right for your kitchen adventures with a pretty hand-made apron from Joy the Baker. Rad? Rad.
Stay tuned for more apron news.
And that picnic? You better believe that’s still in the works! More on that later!
Aprons
I feel so good seeing people so very enthusiastic to sew aprons. I love aprons and prefer people should collect the best one to make everything delighted. I appreciate your post! Wish you all the very best.
PattyP
I just want you to know, from firsthand experience, that one is never CURED from fabric-blindness.

OK, I finally got done with reading through your archives, I am in love with you :D
I want to be you, not in a crazy stalker kind of way, I promise!
My sister-in-laws birthday is this weekend and tomorrow morning I’m making the Southern Style Strawberry Cake. i am so excited I don’t know if I will fall asleep haha…
Honestly, I want my own pot with tomatoes, and I wish I could be there for the picnic…never say never, but with a 6 month baby, I’m not sure I could pull that one off from Salt Lake City (but I’m almost international, I moved here from Croatia 5 years ago)…
Cross everything that the cake turns out…I’ve been known to mess up quite a few!
cassie o
i will cut off my left arm for an apron
seriously.

Downtown LA is totally the place to get fabric! I shopped for the fabric for my bridesmaids’ dresses (& even my traditional Chinese dress) there! A bit overwhelming but there are oh-so-many choices. Can’t wait to see how your aprons turn out! I’ve seen some really adorable retro aprons lately…
Brandy
That is awesome!!! I do not have an apron!!! But I need one VERY badly (my husband can tell you this!!!). I have ruined SO many shirts!!! So this is VERY exciting!
{lauryl}
Isn’t apron-making the bestest? And isn’t the LA fashion district a dream-come-true? Love it! And can’t wait for some details about that picnic!
Jayme

When Pigs Fly

Wow — How exciting to read that Sagan, who posted right above me, still uses the apron she made in junior high. In my world, we called it middle school, but I still use the apron I made in home ec class in the 7th grade. And I’m 41!
Still, fun idea, Joy. Looking forward to seeing them.

My sister and I did almost the same thing several years
ago!! We wanted to get together with my MIL to learn how to “do” her pierogis and homemade noodles. My sister and I went out and bought “vintage style” fabric (much like the
one batch you have with the cherry bunches), and a “vintage-style” pattern. My sister (the seamstress) crafted the cutest apron ever, with ruffles and lace trim, just for my MIL. I picked her up and we met at my sister’s
house. My MIL was absolutely delighted with the apron, and we managed to make huge batches of different types of pierogis and noodles – enough to share out to the whole
family! We made many fine memories of that day, and have had many requests since from family members to provide some
more batches of the same. Alas, my MIL in no longer here,
but she is well-loved and fondly remembered (and not just for her cooking skills!).
Sagan
I made an apron in junior high, I’ve still got it and that’s what I wear when I cook! Love it.
Joy
I love aprons! Can’t wait to see more~
annie
Please suggest to your mom that she make some little ones, too. My 4-year-old LOVES to help me bake, and it would be so cool to have matching aprons!

Kate @ Savour Fare
How fun! Now you’ve got me jonesing to make aprons, and I don’t have a PATTERN.

Deanna

kitchenwytch
Im usually a lurker on your cool page.:) But the apron deal got me going!
I collect/use aprons both vintage/new..It all started with my great-grandmothers flour-sack aprons. She lived right next store when I was
a wee one.Everyday..she would have some beautiful colorful apron she
made over her house dress as she went about doing her thing.Ahhh.
such a happy memory.:) Getting me a bit tearry. I think its a brillent
idea making aprons selling them on Esty. Please do that! Are you going
for a certain era of apron? (20’s,30’s,40’s) Now if you start to make curtains to match the aprons……
Your the bees knees! First thing I read/do in the morning before
I start my day.:)
Emily
I’m so excited to see your aprons! I will definitely check etsy when you open up your shop to see if I can buy one!
abigaildavid

Thats awesome! I’m super pumped! I’ve been looking for a good apron for a while and don’t have the time to make one! Just out of curiosity are you going to make some bigger? i need a fairly large one to cover the ta-ta’s. They seem to attract the most flour.
:)
sarah the baker yoon
you’re a super cool person. that’s all i gotta say.
Kyla
Is this an adventure of the traveling aprons? Read: can they be sent to Canada? (fingers crossed….my tinny and monochomatic kitchen needs a rad, hand-made, apron like you wouldn’t believe).
bdaiss
Oooo I love aprons! I have quite a stash going. Must have one for all occasions! I’d love to add a Joy the Baker apron to my collection!
And while you’re at it, would you send one of those hot dogs my way? Mmmm!
Megan

Stacy
I’m super excited to see the finished product! If it’s anything like your baking, they will be spectacular! Tell me where the line forms because I want to be waiting at the front for one of these!!! Like the others I too have been looking for one that is uber cute but doesn’t break the bank at the same time. Anxiously waiting……..
Sandy
Ooh, now you’re talking! My favorite aprons are still the ones my great grandma made – with the pockets in the front and the big bright tulips all over it. But I could always use a new one, keep me posted!
Drika
