We Do Dinner!

We Do Dinner

Hey!  Can I share some fun news!?  Sweet… thanks.

What makes dinner with friends even more fun and lovely?  A dash of holiday spirit… aaaand whiskey.

I love the months between September and January because I get to cook and cook and cook.  Something about the holidays inspires people to gather and consume… it’s just heaven for me.

We Do Dinner

This holiday season I’m teaming up with my super chef friends and crackpot wine buddies to cater big ol’ homey holiday suppers for people in their homes.  You gather.  We throw down in the kitchen.  You consume.  We’re talking six course meals with things like Braised Cocoa Beef with Buckwheat and Corn Polenta Cakes and Christmas Lima Beans. Yea… the real deal.  How about Warm Apple Crostadas with Butterscotch Ice Cream and Bourbon Whipped Cream?  Yes.  Please.  Dang.

We also do dishes.  Wait… chefs who do dishes!?  Well… we bring help.  That’s true.

I’m telling you all of this goodness because if you’re in Los Angeles or San Francisco… well heck, maybe you’d like to throw a badass holiday dinner party.  Weeks sure are coming and going quickly so email us at joythebakerdinners (at) gmail (dot) com if you’d like to talk food… talk wine… talk menu and pricing… and talk holidays with you.

Oh Joy,

What a wonderful idea! Especially the part about the dishes. My kingdom for a dishwasher (person or machine)! I once again curse the fact that I am an ex-pat living in Japan and not back in my home state of CA. I will of course now be expecting recipes and mouth watering pictures to follow.

The pomegranate-jicama salad sounds superb! I can almost imagine it…sweet, tart and crunchy. Please post the recipe for that!

Are we both related? I seriously have never heard someone as enthusiastic as I about cooking and baking like mad. I love having days where I do nothing but just cook and bake- so much fun! And it lets me catch up on some reading in between baking cycles. Hehe.

Anyway, I just wrote because I seriously love your blog and your photos! I have to admit, I am not a regular reader, just for the fact that I don’t even bother to go on my google reader or anything of the sort, I just type in sites that I always remember off the top of my head, but yesterday, I actually made a checklist on excel with links to my favorite blogs. And one box allows me to check off if I read the post; and the other box allows me to check off it I commented.

I feel so organized… Hehe.

Hopefully I’ll stay organized when it comes to visiting and commenting on my fav. blogs.

I would totally participate if I was anywhere near San Fran. That’s the goal.

Joy, is that your handwriting on the list? I imagine that’s how you would write. A little bit of hip, yet beautiful. Fun, but sophisticated. Edgy, but soft. I hate my handwriting.

That sounds absolutely amazing! And I wish I didn’t live so far away, or I would definitely check it out because during the holidays, I cook a lot, too. And it’s always a lot of fun, especially when you are surrounded by friends and other people you like.

I love your hand-writing, Joy! Your holiday party sounds like my kind of gathering. I’d love to see some of those recipes, to show off for my friends and family!

like everyone said, you have wonderful handwriting! One of my first memories of my husband is him telling me that I write like a boy- I guess he found that sort of thing attractive enough to marry me though. I also wish I were close enough to enjoy a holiday party catered by you and your friends! What a great idea!

you have fantastic writing! you should hire yourself out to handwrite wine bar & mezze menus.

my writing is a hideous scrawl that starts out kind of legible but ends up being linked cirles that can’t follow the lines.

Count me in. I live in the East Bay – my home is tiny though, but would love to help, contribute or co-sponsor. I don’t even mind the post clean up – PS I am going to Bakesale Betty’s this weekend, so wish you could be there…have you tried the pizza a couple of doors down, Pizzaiolo? Yum!

I totally agree….the holidays are an amazing time to immerse yourself in the kitchen, coming out to consort with family and friends, bribing them with delicious baked goods and playing games until the wee hours of the morning! I wish I lived close to the area so I could take advantage of your expertise!

Very cool! I love your handwriting — I know random. I am sure you will receive plenty o’ business! I understand about the fall/winter that makes you want to cook and bake. I am going through that now, when I have free time.

any chance you’ll decide to do a nationwide tour??

I live in neither place, but sadly, in Toronto. I have emailed the family and friends I have in both places. YUM! I cook and bake and my hubby does dishes and know his way around vino a bit but I’m going to try to convince my fancy cooking friends to come and do it for us. I hope the venture is delicious and profitable!
