Super Citrus Smoothie

Super Citrus Smoothie

Let’s just close out eyes and pretend we’re sitting under an orange tree. An orange tree heavy with fruit… but with the occasional late blooming blossom. There are honey bees too. Just a few. The friendly kind. The kind of honeybees that remind you that life is full of creatures big and small… and we all have tasks to do.

Let’s just hang out under our orange tree for a while. Right here in the shade, greeted by little spots of sun as the wind spreads the leaves.

It’s nice here.

Sweet. Thanks. I’m glad you’re here.

Simple.  Big.  Bright.  Tangy.  A game changer, taking your day from overcast to bright and shiny with just a sip.

Thank you to Tracy and Sunset Magazine for the inspiration.

Here’s what you’ll need for one big smoothie:

A juicer

A blender

2 Tablespoons Meyer lemon juice

the juice of 1/2 a grapefruit (save the other half for tomorrow’s smoothie?)

1/2 cup fresh orange or tangerine juice

2 tablespoons honey

heaping 1/2 cup Greek yogurt

1 frozen banana (they blend better when frozen)

1/2 cup ice cubes

In a blender, combine juices, yogurt, and honey.  Blend for a few seconds.  Add the ice cubes and blend until smooth.  This recipe makes one giant smoothie.  Yumtown.

Yum to all this, including the cute fish glass!

Greek yogurt is a staple in our house, and I wish tangerines were, too. Maybe that could change…

This sounds amazing! I’ll be trying this! I’m going to have to replace the grapefruit though, can’t have it. I’m thinking I’ll try just more oranges or maybe some pineapple! That would be tasty! :)

Citrus and dairy has always kind of freaked me out, but I don’t know, after reading your post and all these excitable people’s comments, I think I might be able to take the plunge… Plus anything with banana is what I’m all about.

I’ve gotten out of my smoothie habit. This will kick start it.
I gasped when I saw the smooth glass with the fish. When I was a kid my Grandma made kool-aid in the matching pitcher. Thanks for the memory.

What a great start to a morning of glass of that would be. Or a great pick me up, after a heavy or/and late night…

Hey Lady Lou,
I’m a fairly new blog stalker and the better for it, Thanks! I live in North Florida and have come to appreciate our local citrus. We have a Meyer Lemon Tree, Lowquat (like a mandarin or tangerine, SO good!), and Kumquat Trees. We also get crates full of citrus all December from friends and family. I’m learning to view citrus as a winter fruit, still doesn’t feel normal but it’s lovely to have around. Thank you for inspiring my breakfast this morning! You’ve done that a lot these days:)

So perfect right now, when the days get SO. LONG. I swear it’s been raining in San Francisco for 100 days straight.

We are being happily pummeled with citrus up here too! I did this Glazed Clementine Chiffon Cake that helped me work my way through one of those giant boxes of them–I thought you might love it too:

I recently found your blog and love reading it! I’m not sure about blog etiquette regarding “awards” especially since they aren’t really legit, but I’m passing one along to you via mine (with a link) so that other people can enjoy your posts as much as me!

Sitting under a citrus tree sounds divine! Like Jenny – it’s been bouncing around the 0 degree mark here in MN. I’m over the comfort food – and into the “pretend it’s summer” treats – thanks for sharing!

Oh, duh. Seriously, DUH. That was a totally non-citrus link, though still good. So sorry! Here’s what I meant:

I just made this – AMAZING! I still don’t know what greek yogurt is, but I used plain yogurt and it worked awesome. I’m afraid my brother doesn’t agree with me though – I handed it to him with promises of heaven on earth, he tried some, and nearly gagged, “DISGUSTING!” “You just have bad taste,” I said, and finished the smoothie off for myself.

I drink a simple green smoothie of a similar variety! Maybe you will like it too:

**The Spinach Shot**
Large handful of spinach (baby, organic)
1/2 banana
1 cup fresh orange juice

It is surprisingly SWEET and non-grassy tasting. I actually prefer this one over my usual yogurt blend because those can be rather dense and calorie packed.

My friend Lisa introduced me to this quick drink and I love love love it. She tosses everything into a “Magic Bullet” blender and chugs it down like a shot (it’s become pre-party ritual) to help the body deal with, um, after effects of real shots. I also drink it on a regular basis, especially if I am neglecting my veggie intake for the day.

Oh and added bonus when you drink greens smoothie style (rather than pressed/juiced) you also get the fiber!

That looks ridiculously good. Adding Greek yogurt to the shopping list this week…

Side note – My 78 year old aunt has glasses in her Ontario farmhouse that look JUST like that one. I did a doubletake.
