Ode to my Box Grater

Oatmeal Raspberry Scones

I was packing up my kitchen this afternoon and I got to thinking.

I got to thinking about my box grater… which is totally weird.

As if thinking at length about my box grater weren’t odd enough… I’m now going to shovel my box grater thoughts onto your lap.

There’s butter.  There’s cheese.  There’s roots and veggies.  All the drama and intrigue you could want from one little box grater.

aaaand… seriously… thanks for playing along.  I realize I’m ridiculous.

Carrot Cake Cupcakes with Dulce de Leche Buttercream

First things first: carrots.

These are Carrot Cake Cupcakes with Dulce de Leche Frosting.  These are best when unwrapped and shoved into your face.

Pizza for you face

Cheese.  Just say yes.

Homemade pizza and a movie rental with your honey… just the best night ever.  Take note.

Cheddar Black Pepper Biscuits

Cheddar Black Pepper Biscuits.  Because biscuits are the answer to every problem.

Zucchini Sweet Potato Bread

Grated greens and roots for Zucchini Sweet Potato Bread.  It’s the goodness.

Zucchini Pancakes

While we have the zucchini out.   Pancakes.  Zucchini Pancakes.

No Roll Pie Crust and a Sugar Pie

Take frozen butter to the box grater.  It’s a wonder in pie and scone dough.  It’s a secret weapon from me to you.

This No Roll Pie Crust recipe I came up with… it’s dang amazing!

  1. and CHOCOLATE! Grate chocolate…please. All over cakes or hot chocolate that has a huge dollop of freshly whipped cream. *happysigh*

  2. Again your post made me laugh. Its nice to take some time out to contemplate the wonders of kitchen utensils. I like spatulas too. They come in handy all the time in baking.

Hope the packing is going well.

Ps carrot pancakes look sooo good. *drool*

  3. Oh my box grater and I are bosom buddies. I wouldn’t know what to do without him. But I never even thought to grate cold butter. You are a genius.

  4. Umm. I was half-assedly looking for my box grater tonight (for cheese), but ended up using a different kind that wasn’t hiding. Then I randomly thought about those scones a few hours later.

Now I feel like a psychic for the weird and ridiculous! I’ll also take it as a sign to make those scones soon. Yum.

  5. How is the packing doing? Maybe, like it happened to me, this will be your chance to find something you had long given up for lost in the kitchen…
