Bake Out with Jill and Joy

May 27, 2010

Deb's Caramel Pudding with Jill

I made Caramel Pudding with my friend Jill a few weeks back.  You were here.  You remember.

Deb's Caramel Pudding with Jill

We made a video too!  Oooh goodness gracious.  We did.

If Caramel Pudding freaks you out… if you’re scared of cooking sugar to a golden brown… well, problem solved!  I can show you how.  I can talk you through it.  I also happen to giggle the whole time.  Let’s hope you find that endearing.

Bake Out with Jill and Joy  is a little video series that Jill and I are putting together.  Jill dreams up the dessert.  I show her how to make it.  We laugh… a lot.  I say awkward things… a lot.

Not only is there real action going on here today… Jill and I also brought presents to give away.

Giveaway

Jill and I wanted to treat you to a few things.  You know… to thank you for watching us futz around with pudding.

We’re giving away two prizes to two happyprettysparkle people.  I picked out my favorite fancy whisk and purple spatula for you.  You’ll need a good whisk and spat to whip up this pudding.

And!  Bonus!  Jill is giving away a set of her Culinista Kitchen videos.  You’ll get a little bundle of fun, instructional DVDs, recipes, a shopping list, labels… everything you’ll need to cook up a weeks worth of fancy pants meals.  Genius!  If you don’t want to take your chances on winning this sweeeeet deal, pop on over to Culinista Kitchen and check it out.

You have until the end of Sunday to enter the two part giveaway.  Watch the video.  Leave a comment on this post.  You’re golden!  Two winners will be chosen using Random.org.    Hooray!  You save the day!

Special thanks to Taylor and Jill for making this video so darn fun… and ridiculous.

Good heavens Joy, you and Jill are like two kids in a sweetshop! You remind me of me and my friend Charlotte – we bake together, and never stop giggling either! Thanks for the inspiration and entertainment; please keep baking! x

Hi Joy (and Jill)! This video was a treat to watch (ba dum bum!). I’m definitely going to have to make this pudding immediately. Always a “Joy” to visit your blog (I just can’t help myself with the puns, apparently!).

OMG…this is too funny. I love that you’re trying not to laugh the whole time. And “it’s kind of like ‘making out’. But not really.” Some days I would choose the pudding over making out, too.

Hi Joy

Thought you were the STAR of the caramel pud vid: engaging, natural and a great, clear teacher.

I have a question (and I hope you’re even reading this: you seem to get HUNDREDS of comments – lucky you!!)…

I have an art blog, based in DC. But I have a California-boy husband and we’ll be over your way sometime this year… I do a weekly video on my blog and I wondered, hoped, crossing fingers, please-say-yes whether you might like to STAR in a video of mine.

Here’s what I’d do: send you a few art still-lifes featuring interesting food-stuffs (can you tell I’m British?) and you’d choose one and figure out an amazing Joy the Baker recipe and then we’d film us (or you rather!) making it!

I get around 5,000 visitors a week at the moment and they’d all LOVE you, I know it. It’s just my hubby Matt filming on a wicked little home-cam (he’s good at that, and the editing too): here’s our video from last week, as proof… http://www.headforart.com/2010/05/28/rubbish-art/

Say you’ll be there Joy. It’d be an art-food match made in heaven and maybe an oven.

Let me know and congrats again on the video.

Aleid

How funny that you posted a video on making caramel pudding. I have been thinking about salted caramel, wishing I was brave enough to try making it. After this, I might be. Thanks.

Aw, you two are amazing! :D Honestly, it’s fun watching you guys ‘futz around with pudding’– and watching someone actually go through the process is helpful, because you get all these little tips and tidbits of information that you would normally miss… like how not to incorporate lumps back into something after straining it :)

“This is science!”

Can’t wait to see what you come up with next! <3

Great video by the way, you girls are the awesomest.

Thanks for showing that caramel making doesn’t have to have that scary moment when you pour the cream into the burning sugar and everything boils over. I’ll probably try it now.

I totally want to try making this! It looks so good I can almost taste it.

And I’ve always wanted to say that I love the teeny tiny smiley face at the very bottom of your blog :D
