Coffee and Lavender Sugar Body Scrub
I made you something for not your mouth.
Wait… is that the best way to say that?
I made you something for your body. For showering. For scrubbing. For smelling.
Something to keep you company while you’re in the shower singing Who’s Gonna Drive You Home by The Cars.
Don’t act like you don’t sing that song in the shower… cause we all do.
… right?
I love granulated sugar as a body scrub. It has just the right coarseness. Sweet but aggressive.
Fine-ground coffee is a great addition. It’s fragrant and feels like morning. Lavender makes the whole scrub smell soapy.
The only ingredient you might not have on hand in vegetable glycerine. I found mine at Whole Foods. It’s cheap and really great for a scrub.
Unlike using an olive oil or almond oil, vegetable glycerine leaves your skin feeling soft and happy… but not completely coated in oil.
Take a closer look and read all about lavender’s medical uses.
Gas? um… cool!
It’s as easy as stirring sugar, ground coffee, lavender with vegetable glycerine.
This is the part where I try to creep you out with my giant hands.
But just look how pretty this scrub is!
These hands are getting more creeptastic by the moment.
Scrub that scrub in and get ready to wash it off.
There might be a giant orange cat in your sink. Kick him out.
Washy wash.
Wait. Should we talk about my nails?
Hold on… just a sec.
I love this scrub! Smooth, sweet smelling skin… all from the kitchen.
Now.. if you use this body scrub in the shower, the coffee grinds might leave a little hint of brown in the shower. Don’t freak out! You’re in the shower… it’s easily rinsed away.
If you’re afraid of the brown, you can replace the ground coffee with more granulated sugar. No biggie. Do you.
Oh! This is my latest nail fashion. I’m determined to have the nails of a DMV employee by the end of summer. It’s getting real.

Coffee and Lavender Sugar Body Scrub
makes about 1 cup
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup finely ground coffee (or use more granulated sugar if you’re afraid of a brown scrub)
2 tablespoons dried lavender
1/2 cup vegetable glycerine
Combine all ingredients and stir well. Store in an airtight container for up to a week. I keep my scrub in the refrigerator, because I like it cold. Scrub on hands and body then rinse.

I totally think I could love this scrub! I dislike the taste of coffee pretty seriously, but the smell? I LOVE the smell… I could smell like coffee and lavender after a shower… Sounds good.
Yum! Looks good enough to eat! Hmm, lavender coffee now there’s an idea..
Great idea! And I suppose you can change the favors and imagine a lot of different varieties!
I could never do that with my nails. I can’t wait long enough for them to dry with just two coats so I end up running around with dents in my nail polish. You have some serious skills.
Those nails are saying so much more than I can translate right now. I’m going to scrub myself and my bitten finger ends in the shower now. With coffee grinds. It all sounds so dire if you don’t add the sugar…
“I made you something for not your mouth.” haha! you make me laugh
i was going to say something about your nails, but then you said it for me! i love them.
also, my cat sleeps in my sink, too! crazy!
oh…. ALSO i’m going to try this yummy body scrub.
I owe my life to Stumble for stumbling me to your blog :) It’s everything I’ve ever wanted in a blog, and your podcasts make me oh-so-happy too! I’m a facebook fan and everything now.

LOVE making body scrubs. So much fun, and so much cheaper. I like to make one with sugar and verbana … like summertime in France! Am going to add a scoop of coffee next time.
This is great! I never thought of adding other things to my sugar scrub (which is currently peppermint Dr. Bronners and sugar…). Thanks!
Where did you get the adorable jars to put your yummy scrub? This is gonna make a FAB-U-LOUS post-baby gift for my bestie.
Think that I’ll try this and substitute rosemary for the lavender. Thank you so much for the recipe! One could definitely utilize used coffee ground too.
your kitty likes to relax in the sink? lol.
very cute kitty, too.
That must smell so good! What a gorgeous, dreamy cat.
I think to get the nails of our DMV employees you would need to grow them out and then shape them so they grow like hooks. It is an amazing look, but I cannot imagine typing with my fingers like that!
Joy – where did you buy your lavender? None of my whole foods seems to have it. thanks!
I saw lavender today at Michaels, which I thought was random, but worth a try if you have one in your area!
I am going to make this as soon as my lavender is done drying, but … does regular glycerin work? I found it in the cake decorating isle at Michaels… just wondering., SUPER EXCITED !!! Going to do the lemon one too.
If you don’t mind feeling oily for a little bit while scrubbing, could you substitute the Vegetable glycerine for almond oil or olive oil?
What a yummy scrub! I think I need to try this!
oooh – i lovvve lavender! i may in fact be mildly obsessed with it. this might even persuade me to give coffee scrubs another go . I’ve tried homemade coffee scrubs before, but the shower drain seemed to start getting slow, so i stopped. Does using the glycerin sort of dissolve the coffee bits any? i guess it t might not even have been the coffee at all, but i’m wondering if anyone has had this happen?
Joy, I looove the idea of homemade beauty things. This lavender and coffee scent… Do you think I could use just olive oil instead of glycerine?
It’s like you’re IN MY BRAIN. Obsessed with making my own scrub + awesome nail art. You need to check out Nail Supply House on Valley in Alhambra. LEGIT nail art supplies for crazy cheap.
Ah-mazing. I just loaded up myself.
So… I was in the shower and I had the music from the Goonies in my head because I watched it last night and sometimes when I have music on my brain it turns into other music that sounds similar. I started singing “Drive You Home” out of nowhere! Weird. Thought I’d share.
I just found you tonight, and I had fully intended on going away from the computer and doing nothing. Now I am stuck on your blog. <3 <3
LOL! The nails of a DMV employee got me laughing so hard my husband wanted to know what I was reading, and then HE was laughing too. Thanks for the recipe and the grins. Bookmarked!
ps I found you via pinterest, in case you wondered.
love! glad you found me!
I just found your blog and have only read through a few posts but you’re hilarious. I love the variety of things that you make and the photography of your food. Just thought I would stop in to say hello and great work, but I’m sure you already know this.
The bit about the DMV nails is hysterical by the way, it paints the perfect picture in my mind. :)
Ooh, I made these last night and I did NOT share. Yum.
By the by, the nails are amazing.
I did it all except the lavender (I did not have it) and the part of kicking the cat off the sink (I don’t have that either). The rest worked great, my skin was very soft… the bathtub was messy but easy to rinse and did not stain. This is a keeper. Thanks for posting.
