  1. Hi! I really love the concept and the pictures’ aesthetics. Do you happen to sell prints of them?

  2. I think Joy’s passion is wonderful–life is all about celebrating. Drake seems like a down to earth guy who would appreciate the impact, even on food…I say Bon Vivant…and the NY writer needs a little more cake and fun in life!

  3. This is such an amazing thing, I would love to do a spin-off like this with Taylor Swift lyrics! You may not be a Swiftie, but I am and think her lyrics could look good on some desserts. (This is sort of my way asking permission?? I’d 100% give credit to you for the genius of it all!)

  4. Love this! SO much fun. Since you’re from California, you probably aren’t familiar with “Drake Cakes,” which I believe is only in the NY/NJ area. When Drake first came out all I could think of was Drake Cakes (I still think of it when I heard his name!) So your passion project is extra fun for me. https://www.drakescake.com/www

  5. I love this Joy!!!! By the way regarding the charcoal madness, I remember when my mom first saw avocados in my kitchen she freaked out saying that it was such a nasty fat blah, blah.. And now nobody can live without them… Maybe charcoal will live in the dark for a while and rise to fame in 2016….

  6. This is the most amazing thing I’ve seen and I’m in love! I just told all my friends that I want a cake with Drake lyrics for my birthday…which is 10 months away…

Also, please repost the lemonade recipe. Activated charcoal is not poison! Maybe just turn off comments?

  7. First: This awesome and also scary. Second: Boo for people freaking out over your activated charcoal lemonade! Activated charcoal is used in Asia all the time in baked goods and it’s amazing. Sad you had to take the post down but glad I got another idea on how to use activated charcoal. Thanks!

  8. Well, I know what I’m asking for next year for my bday… #bitchesashotasice

Also, in sort of related news, I think you’d love the song “Freaks and Geeks” by Childish Gambino… check it out if you’re not familiar!!

  9. This is hands down the best thing I’ve seen all day. I am COMPLETELY joining you in this passionate hobby. My baked goods are forever changed. Just saying.

  10. Fricking hilarious. Total side note, but I wanted to look at the activated charcoal lemonade post and now I can’t find it. Real question: can it be paired with vodka? #balance

    1. yes of course it can!
i took the post down. people were freaking out calling it ‘dangerous’ and ‘irresponsible’ thinking that charcoal is actually poison… which it’s not. I didn’t want to deal with the madness so I just took the post down for now.

      1. Nobody was doing that, from what I saw. People were interrogating your pseudo-scientific assertions that we need special soft drinks to eliminate “toxins.” Activated charcoal is fun and a good idea and not poison at all; presenting it as medicine is, in fact, irresponsible. You can advocate for fun ingredients without blindly parroting Woo.

        1. I took the post down because I wasn’t really interested in debates like this. I don’t write a scientific health blog, so perhaps Joy the Baker isn’t the appropriate space for that sort of recipe in the first place. Activated charcoal is not my soapbox. Not a big deal.

          1. That is such a classy response to a rude poster and your chill attitude is one of the reasons why I always check out your blog. Happy Holidays!

          2. And this response, my dear, is the reason why your blog is one of my favorites. And of course the recipes.
