Podcast
This week on the Joy the Baker Podcast, Joy and Tracy are talking fact or fiction. Is it Joy or Tracy that had a hippie-raver phase? Who went through a deep goth phase? Someone lived with a stripper? Wait… who had their face pierced? Joy and Tracy also have a good cry… or at least talk about having a good cry. From kids to movies… what makes you cry and why why why is it always the movie Beaches that makes us ball like babies?
If you’ve come here in search of pictures of Joy and Tracy in their hippie-raver and goth days… well, luckily those were the days before digital cameras (at least that’s what we’re telling ourselves). We could draw you stick figures of raver pants and lip rings, and black hair and ear/navel rings. Would that help? No… sorry.
Check out Joy the Baker Podcast Episode 34!

Hi Joy and Tracey! Just thought you should know there are some guys who listen to your podcast that are not forced in any way by their lady friends!
I can’t believe you mentioned an Always Sunny in Philadelphia costume! I’m going as a cat wearing kitten mittens this year and my boyfriend is going as Charlie. And for the record, I will not be a sexy/slutty cat. I will be a decent, chaste and demure cat. In mittens.
i love this SO MUCH!
I totally remember my cats’ birthdays and celebrate them! For SIXTEEN YEARS! The mother cat, Sherry, has her birthday on April 12th, she likes her steak and milk and likes us to play Jazz. Pepper’s birthday (which is also the same as Cracker’s, but no one likes Cracker) is on July 25th and he likes salmon and butter and nineties pop-rock and he has a little crown because he is the cat king and he is awesome and then Sherry gets jealous that her son is getting so much attention and tries to steal his salmon so we have to get her some steak to distract her on that day as well. She thinks she’s such a lady.
Yes, I am a proud mad cat lady and have converted my man to be a mad cat man and we are now a mad cat couple and have actively found cushions with similar cats to our cats on it and now we are a fairly cool early-20s couple except we have a house full of cat-related stuff and can’t understand why people don’t want to come around just to say hi to the cats. Especially if its their birthday. I mean, I named my totally unrelated food blog after my cats (well, the two we like. If anyone wants a really, really annoying little prick of a 15 year old ginger cat that is rubbish, please say).
I love cats. Cats are awesome. Your cat is awesome and I think Jules and Pepper would be friends. If it wasn’t for the ocean in between. Sadface. Pepper wants Jules to have an awesome party. This year and next year and every single year ever. In fact, Pepper is going to write Jules a birthday card.
i love this reply.
If I didn’t like cats so much myself I would think this girl is batshit crazy.
truth.
i havent laughed that hard in a very long time, not a fan of cats but no judgment on your behalf’s.. i love other things this much, haha thank u.
I really appreciate your use of “up the wazzoo.” I’m really happy I’m not the only one who says that.
P.S. What is the correct spelling of wazzo?
Joy: I can speak Gibberish! If I win a ticket to the retreat I will hecka speak it with you. :) XOXO, Alli
Pssst – I’m not sure if it’s still in production but I know back in “the day” (when I too was wearing Docs and mood rings and Hypercolor t-shirts [Which, btw, totally lost their hyperosity after a couple trips in the washing machine. What a rip off!]) Wet n’Wild made a MOOD LIPSTICK. Seriously! I know I bought it but I can’t remember if it actually worked or not (I’m guessing not.). It’s no mood-detecting nail polish but it’s maybe as close as you’re likely to get.
Joy, have you ever heard of Claire’s Mood? It’s a nail polish that changes color. It’s amazing and it works pretty much like the mood rings

*BING BOOONG*
Idea! Does anyone know any good “Red Flag” songs?
Wouldn’t it be hilarious/awesome to give someone a red flag mix!?
Say, a friend, who needed a heads up…
Ok, maybe a whole mix is weird but can anyone think of “Red Flag” songs?
Maneater by Hall & Oats is one…
Yikes, wish I could think of one less dated!
red flag mix tape!!!! amazing!
Hi Joy and Tracey,
I just wanted to let you know that your podcast is also being listened to in the Netherlands (you know like the country where Amsterdam is in) and that I absolutely utterly adore your podcast. It is the perfect hiliourious company in my weekly bus and train ride of 1.5h each way :( (this is actually very far in my tiny country ;))
Furthermore I have a favour to ask you, at the beginning of this year I made a list of 100 things to do in 2011 and one of these is to be on the radio and since a podcast is practicually the same I would love to be on your podcast + it would be really funny to hear you pronounce my name since it is inpossible for foreign people to say it correctly but I dare you to try ;)
greets from the Netherlands or groetjes in Dutch
Inge
Hey Joy and Tracy, your podcast is really taking over the world! I’m typing this aaaaall the way down in Argentina!
I just want to tell you ladies you’re AWESOME. I’ve been cat-sitting my friend’s cat while she’s away for two weeks, this is my first time living all by my little self, and you are the perfect company, you make me laugh non stop!
So anyways, I tought you may enjoy a question: as I’m working on a gin-citrus I get the sudden, burning urge to speak English. I just can’t help it! What do you guys just can’t help doing when you have a little alcohol in your system?
Loooove from south america!
PS: Too Faced makes a mood lipgloss!
Hi Joy and Tracy,
I love, Love, LOVE the podcast. Just gave you a full deck of stars on itunes. Thank you so much for all that you do. Many comments: on this podcast, so glad you mentioned jellies, if not only for a second. On an episode a while back Joy, you mentioned picking eyebrows. My best friend does this too and her her solution is taping her eyebrows during times of stress. If she is not near tape she wears post-it notes over her eyebrows to prevent herself from ripping the hair out of her face. Please note that she only sports this look around her closest friends, and her boyfriend is in the dark on this one. Last but not least I have a question that maybe one day you could explore on your podcast. How do you react to bullies? Do you fight back or cave in? Anecdotes would be much appreciated.
Cheers,
Gretta
P.S. If I still lived in CA I would totally go to the retreat, however I am an East Coast girl at the moment!

I am cracking up listening to these podcasts! They are helping me get through my work day…sitting in front of a computer and wanting to gouge my eyes out…but not because I am busy laughing. :)
Hey Joy, I recently found your podcasts (like, yesterday) and I’ve listened to 5 of them already! I absolutely LOVE them. I listened to one tonight while I was doing the dishes and it was fun to do…mostly because I had you guys in my ear (doesn’t that sound crazy? Who would’ve thunk that people would be in my ear one day?) Anyways…just wanted to stop by and tell you how great you are!
Hi Joy,
I just clicked on the link to listen and it came up with website saying that you’ve been hacked?! I got scared and closed it right away!
Thanks for your awesome recipe- i’ve never tried one that didn’t work great!
Amelia

Hi Joy and Tracey! I love the show, you guys remind me of when I get together with my sister and talk.
Anyway I wanted to share my inner hippiness with you and hopefully get picked for a rockin goody bag. My hippie beauty tip is that I use olive oil, not evoo just the regular stuff, to clean my face in the morning. I put a bit in my hand and massage it into my skin then wipe it off with a dry wash cloth. You wouldn’t believe what kind of gunk comes off your face when you do this. Eww gross! My face always feels super soft after and not greasy at all. I think in the winter this will work great here in the dry midwest air but I don’t think I’ll be able to do it in the summer. I work outside on a farm and I think that would be too close to marinating myself every morning.
Hi Joy and Tracy!
I love your blogs and now your podcast. This hippie podcast is my favorite so far. I love granola-fying my life. Joy, you mentioned that you’re afraid your head will become a fifth grade science experiment if you use vinegar, but after you rinse your hair out real good of the baking soda, you should use a water/apple cider vinegar mixture as a conditioner (about 1/4 cup ACV and a cup and a half water) your hair will shimmer and shine (and only smell like vinegar when it’s wet, I promise.)
Tracy, thank you so much for the coconut oil shaving cream suggestion! I use it as a hair conditioner and love it, but never thought about it as a shaving cream. Brilliant.
Keep being wonderful! (and check out my blog if you have a moment…there’s a shout out to you, Joy)

I just started listening to your podcasts last week. I am starting from the beginning and am
enjoying catching up to more current episodes. I actually listen while I run and got through 2 yesterday while competing in a 10 mile race! I am sure the other runners were jealous as I definitely laughed out loud a few times. Anyway, I just wanted to say you rock and thanks for making my runs more enjoyable! PS: I have this unusual craving for a stale peep….
I can’t believe you mentioned an Always Sunny in Philadelphia costume! I’m going as a cat wearing kitten mittens this year and my boyfriend is going as Charlie. And for the record, I will not be a sexy/slutty cat. I will be a decent, chaste and demure cat. In mittens.
OMG nomiker. I’m lol-ing at my desk right now.
A friend and I took a stancd against the slutacular costumes a few years ago and live by the words “Modest is Hottest”. Join the revolutions dear friends.
Hey girls,
usually I really love your podcast. However, I felt slightly offended by your comment that a prosthetic leg is weird/ creepy. What the heck, ladies? xx
I work at a design firm with a bunch of boys. Thank you for your girl banter and talking about not sleeping in a bra. I could never say, “I just want to get out of here so I can take my bra off already.” This is the conversation I long for during the day. Keep hanging out for my sake :)
i’m a fan of your podcast (love the blog!) and think you’re a pretty awesome person all around. but i didn’t even listen to your latest podcast (#35) past the first 2 minutes. my sister spent several years in intense speech therapy to overcome her speech impediment – including a lisp. to hear tracy start making fun of lisps and speaking with a mock lisp….well – it wasn’t cool. i know tracy didn’t mean anything by her remarks and that they were spoken without menace. but they were also spoken without thought. next time, please be more thoughtful.
