Some things are over the top for even me. Some things are so good that they actually hurt. I’m a real sucker for all chocolate and peanut butter combinations… but really!? Chocolate, peanut butter AND Rice Krispy Treats? Out of control. I think I pulled a baking muscle. These bars are so rich, so over the top, so peanut buttery, that I think I need to stick to only baking broccoli this weekend. I think I hurt myself.
These are just the treats I want to pawn off on my neighbors and coworkers. They’ll thank me, and they’ll hate me. I can live with that.
This recipe comes in three parts. Three crazy good, belly busting, lick the spoon over and over and over again parts. And they’re easy too! Yea.. this recipe is nothing but trouble.
I made these bars in a 9×13-inch pan and cut the bars into 1-inch squares, although I think even those were too large.
Rice Krispy Treats
- 3 tablespoons butter or margarine
- 1 package (10 oz., about 40) regular marshmallows
- – OR –
- 4 cups miniature marshmallows
- 6 cups Rice Krispy Cereal (or any puffed rice cereal)
1. In large saucepan melt butter over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat.2. Add Rice Krispies cereal. Stir until well coated.
3. Using buttered spatula or wax paper evenly press mixture into 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan coated with cooking spray. ( You may want to line your pan with parchment paper or waxed paper large enough to have flaps hanging over the sides. This will make it easy to pull the giant block of goodness out of the pan when it’s done. I just forgot this step. But as recorded in the comments below, some people had trouble with the wax paper sticking to the Krispie treats. A well sprayed pan might just be your best bet!) Cool. Make Peanut Butter Fudge.

Hi Joy!
Having recently discovered your website, I am in love with you, your baked goods & your blogs. The diverse recipes presented all seem modified to perfection, many basic ingredients blended together with love, creativity and vibrant descriptions so that even the inexperienced baker may enjoy them. I am a cook who expresses similar passion about my dishes, though if given a choice between salty or sweet, I will always opt for the former!
Besides the design of your site, which is visually appealing and a pleasure to navigate, the comical passion with which you quip about each recipe is delightful! Through your website, which has now become my baking bible, I am learning to love sweets!
But I must make a criticism about this recipe: using wax paper was a Bad idea! The regular Reynolds wax paper used stuck to the bottom of the wonderful treats so badly that it is coming off in shreds, and while I battle to scrape it off the sticky surface, the yummy fudge layers are getting damaged :-/
Just wanted to warn anyone else. That said, you are still my baking goddess!

Sorry, I meant to say that I added 1/2 tsp or so of vanilla to the Rice Krispie layer. Thanks again!

Joy, you evil woman! I made these last night for an office party today. I halved the recipe and used an 8×8″ glass pan. I also added 1/2 tsp or so to the Rice Krispie layer. After I made the whole thing, I kept sneaking corner cuts from the fridge even before they were completely hard.. then I trimmed the edges before I cut the batch into 1″ squares and, of course, I just HAD to eat the “trimmings” plus a few more squares to taste.. Then today at the party while everyone else was making noises about them, I ate a few more pieces!! I had to give the recipe to two co-workers. Thanks much for testing this out first. It’s a keeper!!!

I made these for a family Christmas party. They were a big hit! Thanks so much for the recipe. I love your blog. It totally rocks!

Oh yum. I’m planning on making this tomorrow. I noticed the instructions include nuts in the chocolate fudge, but it’s not the ingredient list. It doesn’t look like there are nuts in the photos, so I’m gonna go without. Do you have printable recipes somewhere?

I made these and took a small amount to my mom’s group and sent the rest with my husband to work for a cookie party. The reaction was the same in both places: swooning and an immediate demand for the recipe. While these were too sweet for my taste, they definitely attracted raving fans and made me a star.
One warning to those who are trying these, the peanut butter fudge takes some muscle. Make sure you have enough peanut butter and consider hand kneading if stirring gets too tough (I think Alton did this during the episode).

You have no idea how awesome these were. Oh wait… yes you do. You made them.
Anyphway, huge hit on the Comedy Central Cookie Walk of Shame and an even bigger hit at the mini-meetings at my cubicle last night when my friends and I wanted some peace and quiet. I saved a secret stash just for us.
However, I was sad to wake up this morning to a spoon lying beside me. Quickly realized this was from my post-party makeshift snack of peanut butter on a spoon with remaining chocolate chips sprinkled on top! How did the spoon end up in my bed…that’s not really the point, Joy.
Next up, Chocolate Peppermint Deliciousness!

I actually made these last weekend and served them at my cookie exchange party. It was a good thing I had a crowd over or I would have devoured the entire pan. I plan to post them on my blog this week. I will make sure to link back to you.

I’m usually against the really sweet desserts but the combination of peanut butter, chocolate, and rice krispy treats can always win me over. Your little squares look so perfect!

Wow, I love all of those things individually, I can’t imagine have all three in ONE dessert!! I am so making these for myself some weekend!
