Oatmeal Cherry White Chocolate Cookies

March 7, 2009 by Joy the Baker 89 Comments

Oatmeal Cherry White Chocolate Cookies

Here’s a fun game to play:

Grab a chef.  Any chef will do.

Ask that chef what their favorite Oatmeal Cookie recipe is.  I’ll bet you my favorite slippers (not that you would want those) that their favorite recipe for Oatmeal Cookies is the recipe right there on the Quaker Oats can.

I know… too easy right?  Take the easy.  Accept the easy.  Some things are complicated.  Other things are as simple as the Oatmeal Cookie recipe that I’ve been making since I was old enough to reach the counter.

Embrace the good, then add cherries and chocolate.

Because I simply can’t help myself, I jazzed these beauties up a bit with dried cherries and white chocolate chips.  Use any combination of dried fruit and chocolate you like.  The base recipe, with brown sugar and old fashioned oats is gorgeous enough with or without the jazz.  Keep in mind that chocolate does make everything better.  Fact.

oooooh Quaker.  You’ve done it again.

Print this Recipe!

1/2 pound (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
1 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 cups old fashioned oats
1 cup dried cherries
1 cup white chocolate chips or chunks
Heat oven to 350°F.
In large bowl, beat margarine and sugars until creamy. Add eggs and vanilla; beat well. Add combined flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt; mix well. Add oats and raisins; mix well.
Drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets.
Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until light golden brown. Cool 1 minute on cookie sheets; remove to wire rack. Cool completely. Store tightly covered.

I made these today for a brunch/house renovation party, and people went WILD for them! I used dried cranberries and dark chocolate chips, and that seems to have hit the spot, because every one of them was eaten and folks were raving. So simply, and thus so perfect. I love your blog, by the way.

Made these last night and teenager took some to school. Just got a text from him and he wants to make more for his friends because they never had oatmeal cookies with cherries and white chocolate. How deprived children they are!!! This is now a family favorite. Thanks!

Sinful. Absolutely. Purely. They were comfort food in the beginning and will be at the end of time, but now they are just a tad bit more marvelous.
    Cherries. White chocolate.
Blissful in all their glory. This recipe is a keeper.

last night while getting pizza dough and beer at the grocery store, i grabbed white choc chips and dried cherries and the boyfriend grinned. He responded “what are you making and do i get to have some?” I’ll be making these tonight if he’s lucky. ;)

And, just curious, is there much of difference btwn using old fashioned oats VS quick oats?? Quick oats is what I tend to always have in the cupboard.

I like to tart them up even more by soaking whatever dried fruit I’m using in just a titch of rum or Irish whiskey.
