Wedding Cake: Extracts and Clay

June 17, 2010 by Joy the Baker 50 Comments

Wedding Cake: the beginning

Meet Zach and Nicole.  Clay versions of Zach and Nicole… molded and shaped by the bride.

This cake topper is sitting on the counter staring at me.  I’m going to try super extra crazy hard not to break these little people before it’s wedding time.

Wedding Cake: the beginning

Wedding cake making means wedding cake ingredient shopping.

Extracts.  Powders.  Eggs.  Butters.  Boards and boxes.  I’ve got the goods.

Wedding Cake: the beginning

Tomorrow?  Bake day.

Would you mind talking a bit about the cocoa powder you use or your favs?

I’ve been reading your site for a couple months, but I’m especially excited with these series of posts. Seeing the process of a wedding cake (or any elaborate cake) unfold will be very cool. Have fun!!

Thanks for sharing this step by step. We all love seeing the process as it unfolds. And, I agree with the comment from bird, the clay bride and groom are your little wedding cake fairy godparents blessing you as you bake.

the bride & groom are like your little wedding cake fairy godparents- they’ll make sure there are no dropped cakes, runny buttercream & enough eggs :)

I too am deeply intrigued by this emulsion business! It says you can replace the extract but you also posted a picture of extract so I was wondering are you just doing half and half?

BTW I’ve been meaning to ask your opinion on Vanilla Bean Paste over Extract? Thoughts?!

Love the topper and very intrigued by the bakery emulsion – do tell. The baking and decorating part were always relaxing for me – even when I made my own cake. Enjoy the time! (When I made cakes for my friends, I always included a fresh 1st anniversary cake in my price. No dry frozen cake!)

Looks like everyone’s as intrigued as I am by the ‘buttery sweet dough bakery emulsion’! How do you use it? I’m gonna get on google right now, heh.
