Pumpkin Pie Spice

November 19, 2010 by Joy the Baker 217 Comments

You’re probably going to be loading up your cart at the grocery store with all kinds of Thanksgiving things this weekend.

Can you do me a big favor?  Don’t buy that stupid little jar labeled Pumpkin Pie Spice.  It’s annoying.  It’ll only get lost in the back of your spice cabinet until three years from now when you move and have to clean out your kitchen and find seven stupid little jars labeled Pumpkin Pie Spice.

I think you should make your own dang spice.  You probably already have every spice you need in your cabinet… in front of the forgotten little jars of Pumpkin Pie Spice.

Wanna do it?  Sweeeet.

Pumpkin Pie Spice is a combination of every yummy autumn spice in your cabinet:  cinnamon, ginger, cloves, allspice and nutmeg.

I can make the spice.  Can someone please turn this into a shampoo for me?  K…. Thanks.

1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

2 teaspoons ground ginger

1/2 teaspoon ground cloves

1/2 teaspoon ground allspice

1/2 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg

big pinch of cardamom (or you can substitute mace)

I live for everything pumpkin and this post is the greatest! It reminded me of this pumpkin bark I recently stumbled upon: https://www.bissingers.com/category/detail/detail.php?item=2765. Feel like conjuring up a home made version? :-)

Throw some of that into a batch of ice cream. Yummm!

I love the idea of jarring it and giving it away, I alwasy just make enough for my pie.

This is a perfect gift for the holidays! Way to go, Joy! Plus, I don’t have any pumpkin spice of my own at the moment, but I do have all the ingredients for this. It’s good to know what substitutions I can make for recipes that call for it!

Thanks, Joy! I shall store it in the very old container of Pumpkin Pie Spice that I found in the back of my spice drawer… For once my laziness of not throwing it out right away paid off!

Using a “Hello My Name Is…” label is genius. Thank you for this recipe. I wonder if I can put this in my bath water?

I like where you’re going with this… if not the spice powders, maybe you could mix different essential oils for the same effect?
