Bananas, nut milk, protein packed peanut butter, healthful flax seeds for beautiful insides and beautiful outsides, and thickening oats.
It’s a smoothie for your health… but it’s also feels like you’re drinking a milkshake. Drink up and rush out the door. There’s life to live!
Peanut Butter, Banana, and Oat Milkshake
makes about 2 1/2 cups. one large or two small portions
2 cups cold almond milk (soy or regular milk would also be delicious)
1 banana, cut into chunks (frozen is ideal) (definitely peel the banana… like, for sure.)
1/4 cup peanut butter
1 heaping teaspoon honey
1 tablespoon flax seeds, ground into meal
2 teaspoon old fashioned oats, ground fine
In a spice grinder, pulverize flax seeds and oats into a fine powder. My spice grinder is just my coffee grinder really well cleaned out.
In a blender combine almond milk, banana, peanut butter, honey, and ground flax and oats. Blend until no banana chunks remain, and the mixture is thoroughly incorporated. Pour into a glass and enjoy immediately.

By the way….what kind of honey is that? I don’t know if ive ever seen such a light creamy looking honey!

How cute are the little banana slices all cut up in their banana skin jackets? Adorbs.

Dear Everyone,
Absolutely 100% for sure DO NOT EVER blend your banana with the peel! It will come out gritty and woody and gross. Peel the banana and break it into chunks (with your hands or with a knife) before you freeze it, since levering a frozen peel off a frozen banana is no fun whatsoever.
This is a great thing to do with overripe bananas; the ones that are heavily speckled brown are good for smoothies, while the totally black and slightly-goopy-on-the-inside ones are great in for banana bread (thawed first)! The riper they are, before the goopy point, the sweeter and smoother your smoothie will be.
Sincerely,
Someone who really hopes none of you went off and blended an entire banana plus peel into a smoothie because that would seriously be the most disgusting thing ever.
joythebaker
seriously… peel it.

Oh man, this sounds awesome. It’s like a yummy bowl of oatmeal but in milkshake form. Doesn’t get better than that! I know what I’ll be having for breakfast tomorrow morning or maybe even as a dessert tonight… perhaps drizzled with a little bit of caramel or chocolate syrup. On second thought, why wait until tonight. I should go make one of these right now :)
Thanks for the great recipe!

The peel too!? Am I new to this craze?

I need to know too! Do tell, do tell!

I love these – I usually throw my old, soft, peeled, bananas in the freezer and use them just for things like this!

i think i’ll give oats in a smoothie another try using your method. the first time i tried it, the recipe said to microwave the oatmeal with water then put the cooked oatmeal into the smoothie to blend. it totally did not blend smoothly & let’s just say that i was lucky to get one sip down…blech! aside from the oatmeal, everything else in here sounds amazing!
ps* i’m lovin your festive header :)
joythebaker
yuck! that sounds gross! i really like blending the oatmeal into a powder. it integrates really well into the smoothie and totally helps thicken it. no chewing required.

I love the idea of this, but absolutely hate bananas. My first thought was to use berries instead, but then I think Almond Butter would be a better choice than PB. Any one else having some ideas?

wow another one for the bodybuilders out there
