Are you ready for a summer love?
Let’s get our feet in the grass, our shoulders in the sun, our laughter in the air. There is no time like the present! It’s time to SHINE!
I’m armed with a loose knit summer sweater, a color-pop swim suit, some bonkers lipstick, and a handful of beautiful summer recipes (like these Lemon Raspberry Breakfast Rolls). Let’s make this summer living look effortlessly beautiful… even though I totally just spent an entire 7 minutes and 45 seconds putting on lipstick. No bigs. Let a lady live.
I dream of this view at Christmas time. I really do.
This living is good living, indeed.
LOVE!
Cold Avocado Soup garnished heavily with sweet corn, crispy bacon, and spicy peppers.
Treat yo-self.
Call it breakfast. Call it dinner. Call it everything that was ever delicious about dessert!
Strawberry Pineapple Crumble. So easy. So bright and full of summer! Potluck dessert: solved.
Quit it. Just stop right there.
If the mere mention of a Chocolate Malt doesn’t make your mouth water, we might have a problem.
I added extra malt and a burnt banana. Proper.
Perhaps you and your friends are going to have a popularity contest this summer. Who can make the best summer playlist? Who has got the best cannonball? Who can stand the longest on hot pavement? Who has got the most stellar hot dog preparation? YOU!! You’ve got the hot dog situation in the bag with these Pretzel Dogs. On the real. These puppies are magic!
Happy Summer. Put some love all up in it!
Monique Bartley
Dear lord. Just let me have some of these and then I will die willingly. I assure you when I make these, no one will get a taste. I will sit in front of my TV picking apart each gooey roll and stuffing it in my mouth as I allow family members to look on with jealousy.
Jessie
I’m pretty sure my son had a “who can stand on the hot pavement longest” competition already. :). Yummy stuff!
Summer Delilah
Oh miss Joy, you are gonna be so bonkers PRETTY with that lipstick and that sweater! and I can’t wait to make (and share!) every single one of these summertime recipes.
anna
ooooooooo i love all of these!
Ann P.
Ooooh, summer! I’m planning on doing a lot of wedding planning these next few months! And enjoying being job-less, while simultaneously searching for a job. Yeah. :)
Lilian
You can have that view at Christmas … in Australia. :-) Summer Christmases are joyous – barbecues, beaches and sunbathing!
elena
Thanks so much for:
a) getting me excited about summer
b) reminding me how much hot dogs are missing in my life
c) letting me know I’m not the only person who takes aggggges putting on lipstick
Happy start of summer!

What a great line up! All those recipes sound delicious! Yum!

In Australia you can have a Christmas with this view. That’s why as an Australian living in London everything in my being is telling me Christmas is around the corner!
Sadly it is not, and frankly it seems like Summer isn’t either.. Go away rain!
P.S I love the way you write your blog, it seems fun.
xo
harriet
I live in Australia so I totally spend my xmas on the beach haha
Sophie
You dream of that view at Christmas time?? That just means you should come visit Australia for Christmas, it’s all sun, sand and surf…or sitting by the pool if that’s your preference. But right now it’s not so nice, it’s stormy and cold and dark (Sydney-siders can’t cope with cold weather and go into denial every winter, cursing the thermometer anytime it goes below 20 degrees celcius = 68 fahrenheit).
So I’m with you in spirit Joy. Keep the summer vibes coming and I’ll pretend I’m on the other side of the globe.
Robin
Sophie,
I might have to move to Australia. 20 degrees celsius is spring weather here. :) Winters in Iowa get down to negative 26 celsius (-15 F) and that doesn’t count the wind chill. When the weather guy says “in 30 seconds exposed skin will freeze” it isn’t a joke. Though we wish it was…ha ha. Day-dreaming and frozen rhubarb usually gets me through to May.
The strawberry pineapple crumble is calling my name! Looks like I’ll have to run to the farmer’s market for strawberries tonight. Thanks Joy!
Carolyn McDonald
Oh! And you gotta post a pic of you rocking that lipstick!!
Carolyn McDonald
I think that Lemon Raspberry breakfast roll with the coffee with the milk in it is mine…yummm

I dig your positivity, girl. DIG IT.

Hey, you should check out Australia. Where Christmas IS pool-time. And you get swim suits in your Santa stockings.
Laura
Was just about to say that :) That looks like an aussie christmas!!

You dream of summer at Chistmas, but down here in Australia I am dreaming of summer right now – wrapped up in scarves and hats!

C. Thank you so much for mentioning the pretzel dogs!! I was just telling my husband a few nights ago how much I miss bagel dogs, which I used to have all the time as a kid. He thought I was nuts. I feel vindicated! :-)
Valerie
Totes diggin’ the bakeware for the Breakfast Rolls! I must admit, I have a love affair for all things green when it comes to kitchen essentials! Do you mind sharing what brand it its?

“Treat yo-self”…don’t tell me you watch Parks and Rec! LOVE that show!!
I’m making those pretzel dogs. My husband and oldest son are gonna love me for it. I’ll make just plain pretzels…or maybe sneak in some cheese for the vegetarians in the family. Oh man, i could add chocolate in there. I guess it’s endless what can go into a pretzel.
Thanks Joy! xo
BryAnn
Now, not only do I want to make lemon raspberry breakfast rolls, but I also want to buy the Nars lipstick and that sweater. Joy, you have summer style. Happy summer!

That strawberry-pineapple crumble looks just right for summer.
Becca - Cookie Jar Treats
Happy Summer! I usually don’t like summer because I don’t really like the sun (I’m as pale as pale can be), but this post really got me in the mood. Maybe I’ll just dream of doing all those things ;)
Nicole @ the Dirty oven
Summer loves to you too!

Hmmmm….got the craving to make me some cinnamon rolls and those pretzel dogs look truly amazing.
It’s 3 am and now I’m REALLY hungry.
*sigh*
I hope your summer is amazing, Joy!
Sara {Home is Where the Cookies Are}
Oh! My heart skipped a beat when I saw those cinnamon rolls! And then the soup and the crumble and the hot dogs. Really. Sometimes I wish I could just come to California and stop by your place like it is a tourist attraction, and you could fix me a 10 course meal that makes no sense but that I’d be dreaming about for the rest of my life. Love the reminders for dee-lish summer flavors!
ursula
All this talk of summer has got me so jealous! It’s been less than 10 degrees here all week and I can’t even leave the house it’s that cold. I wish there were raspberries and pool-side cocktails… Hope you have a great time!
Margherita
Your pretzel dogs have become my boyfriend’s homies fav since I first made them for Superbowl’s night.
Since then I’ve baked them at least another 6 times and I can proudly say that I’ve perfected my skills: meaning that I don’t make such a big mess anymore as I did the first time.
Funny thing about making pretzel is the mount of baking soda you’re actually using…I never ever thought I would have to buy a pack of baking soda every other week!
Lucia
I wish you light blue skirts and jasmine scent in the air; lavender, mint and poppies; hugs and kisses tasting of sea salt. Happy Summer Joy!
Blog is the New Black
Doesn’t feel like summer quite yet here! Anxiously awaiting its arrival! ;)

WOWOWOW!
man i wish it was summer here in australia. the weather is terrible! all windy and stormy and blek!
but these recipes make me positive – only 6 more months! :D
Amanda@EasyPeasyOrganic
I totally 100,000% agree. I’m sitting in a Brisbane dining room that WILL NOT get warm reading these sunshiney summery blogs with big big sighs. Sigh. Joy the Baker should totally get commissions from Qantas, don’t you think? :)
