Chocolate Dipped Frozen Bananas

July 29, 2013 by Joy the Baker 114 Comments

I feel like every blog should have a safeword.

We need a word that says, ‘Um… why are you posting way less on your blog these days. Are you pregnant?’  No.

We need a word that says ‘I know you’re phoning it in with that compilation of past posts post’.  It’s cool.

We need a word that says ‘Cool, you’re engaged!  I’m going to unfollow you on Pinterest immediately’.  It’s nothing personal.  It’s a wedding thing.

We need a word that says ‘Did you really just post a recipe for ICE!?’.  I’m sorry.

I was going to have our safeword here be ‘Lasagna Grilled Cheese‘… but we can’t use that anymore because that’s a thing now.  Our safeword definitely can’t be ‘Chocolate Dripped Bananas’ because that’s obviously a thing.  Maybe our safeword should be ‘gorilla pants’… until I get a pair.  I’ll let you know when that happens.  Until then, ‘gorilla pants’ is our safeword.

I’m really glad we had this talk.

Let’s talk about toppings.

I’m trying to keep it classy.  It took everything in me not to throw colored sprinkles in the mix.  Classing it up!

Salted pistachios are shelled and coarsely chopped.  Chili-rubbed almonds are (snacked on) and coarsely chopped.  Cocoa nibs are appreciated for their dark and bitter crunch.  We’re ready to sprinkle!

IMG_1074

Melted chocolate is mandatory… otherwise we just have bananas on sticks, and what fun is that?

IMG_1101

Dip and sprinkle.  Dip and sprinkle.

IMG_1104

I love when messy things are also pretty.  I think this only happens when chocolate and pistachios are involved.  My kitchen is messy… and not so pretty at all.

These summer treats are exactly as advertised:  chocolate and chilled, sprinkled bananas.  Frozen bananas are super satisfying… like nature’s popsicles.  Covered in chocolate and salty nuts,  I mean….

You know the deal.

Chocolate Dipped Frozen Bananas

Print this Recipe!

12 ounces dark chocolate, melted over a double boiler with 1 tablespoon coconut oil

3 large bananas, cut into thirds

popsicle sticks

chopped salted pistachios

chopped spiced or smoked almonds

cocoa nibs

Melt chocolate over a double boiler (or in the microwave, if you prefer) with coconut oil.  Stir until smooth, glossy, and entirely melted.

Insert a popsicle stick into one end of each banana piece.  Dip each banana into the warm melted chocolate.  Shake off excess chocolate as best you can.  Place dipped bananas on a parchment lined baking sheet. Sprinkle generously with chopped pistachios, chopped almonds, or cocoa nibs.  Place in the freezer to harden and set.

When frozen through wrap individually or enjoy immediately.

Perfect!! 3 big bananas currently staring at me from the fruit bowl (I’m a satsuma girl) No pistachios in the house so I guess I’ll have to settle for crystallized ginger *sigh*

I’ve seen some weird shaped frozen bananas (crotch-regiony, as mentioned above) but these look beautiful. I don’t think I could keep it as classy as you though – I’d be covering them in sprinkles before I could stop myself.

LOVE these! And it would have been more than okay if you had thrown a boatload of sprinkles in because I don’t think they necessarily un-class things too much. Rationalizing here b/c I throw plenty of them in things!

The first vertical picture, with the cream drapes and tabletop shot – I love that. The light is gorgeous. And it’s just so pretty! If that was my photography corner, I could stand there all day! What a great space!

bananarama! love these choco dipped bananas… and especially the crunchy yummy adult toppings… and, for some reason, the bananas being cut into thirds is so cute and way less, um, crotch-regiony.

i have popsicle sticks so i am thinking i will be making these guys very soon!!!

gorgeous photos as always too joy! ^__^
