[I] was having one of those days where I was certain that everyone in the world around me was mostly thoughtless, unkind, and out to drive reeeeaallly slowly, and ruin my day. Turns out, if you feel like every single person around you is a dolt, it’s time to look within, get yourself a snack, and simmer all the way down. It’s not them; it’s you… or in my specific case, me. The cure to my crunchy day was a cup of coffee, a breakfast sandwich, and a stop to look at the beautiful blooming Magnolia trees.
I need to call my mom and say hello. It’s been too long and she’s probably getting worried. She’s also probably reading this… I’ll call you, Mom!
Here’s what the Internet wants us to know this week: it’s cold so we’re moving to Mars.
• What the heck is going on in Boston!? Boston’s Winter From Hell. Would it help if we sent them all of our sunshine and space heaters?

• Hey, you guys! Eggs Are Back (along with a list of new dietary guidelines)! Get excited. We’re all about whole foods and egg yolks. Full disclosure: I read this article while eating boxed mac and cheese, straight from the pot, at 12:21am. I’M DOING IT RIGHT. Stay tuned for Joy the Baker dietary guidelines. Coming soon.

I love you. Happy Sunday!

Mars… that is a whole huge headache. So glad the weather is good enough near you for blooms!

Happy Sunday back! That Mars thing is crazy, but I figure if someone is stupid enough to want to go on a one-way ticket to Mars, planet Earth is probably better off for it.

Thanks for another week of great links, Joy! Please please please send all the sunshine and warmth to Boston! I just want summer and beach and sandals, but looks like we’ll be building snowmen in July at this rate.

Joy THANK you for referring to the evergreen topic of “no, thank you”! I have allergies, but I don’t feel like sharing all the time, and I think it’s important to call attention back to this. Thank you!
And thank you for this always beautiful and inspiring blog.
Kisses from Milan

I love these columns. BTW – the link to the “saying thank you” is incorrect. It leads you to a NY Times column on snow/Boston snow removal..
Thanks..

Enjoying these posts as well. I’m totally been there…driving in traffic and just feeling awful, mad at myself for being so frustrated with life. And yet, I’ve had to go through some very, and I do mean very difficult things in my life. Almost loosing a child does that to you and I can never look at people the same way again. That person who cut me in traffic might have just lost their spouse, or had a miscarriage, or lost their job or worse. You just don’t know! And it helps just loving people and not judging, for sure.

Dear Joy, your page is a happy place on the internet. Keep up the good and delicious work. A big hug from Europe, C

Call your Mom, and do more!!

sad to say when you get older you have a lot of crunchy days. Discovered the reason for me was age. You feel you deserve more for being older and then find out that is a bunch of crap. so you spend a little more alone time and appreciate everyone and every thing around you and just start to enjoy that your lucky to be here another day and not six feet under. So when you have a crunchy day just take a breath smile look around and see the miracle of another day in your life. Tell mom we all said Hi. Have a good week Joy, did you say the trees were blooming damn its cold and we just got six inches of snow. I’ll take a deep breath and smile and think how happy I am that you can enjoy this day. So glad to hear that you conquered your crunchy day????. (lovely expression by the way). There is nothing like dissolving too much crunch by focusing on the important things in life, like breakfast and beautiful magnolia trees.
A new perspective on shades of grey is so called for.
Truck on.
Love, Lene

Jealous of your blooming trees! We have snow. Oh, and ice! (Near Philly)

Happy Sunday, Joy! It’s so sunny here in Portland. I feel so bad for my friends out east.
Also, half the time I don’t know whether I want a salty or sweet snack. . .so a chocolate dipped potato chip seems like the absolute perfect compromise. . .
