Happy Tuesday from New Orleans!

April 12, 2016 by Joy the Baker 40 Comments

Happy Tuesday from New Orleans!

Mondays get a bit of a bad rap.  Sure they’re the first day when we are obligated to wear pants and brush our hair… but there’s something unspoken about the wrath of Mondays for everyone, and I think we go easy on one another (as we should, really).

Tuesdays are a different beast.  Tuesdays can be sneaky in their workload and mania.  It’s like everyone who eased into Monday is roaring to go (and ready to write ALL the emails) come Tuesday morning.

Tuesday is a great day to take it slow and even play hooky if you can.  There’s no better city in the world to play hooky than New Orleans.  Here, we are more than ready to start a Tuesday with fluffy beignets and end with brass bands and cocktails.  Everywhere else it’s just Tuesday, in New Orleans there’s always a reason to celebrate!

If you’re coming to visit… it is festival season afterall…enjoy a Tuesday with us!

Here’s my Happy Tuesday from New Orleans, with love.

Happy Tuesday from New Orleans!

Tuesday morning Yoga at the Cabildo in the heart of the French Quarter is great!  It’s yoga in a sunny museum first thing in the morning.   It’s also steps from Cafe du Monde and its famous beignets which, if you ask me, is no accident.

Happy Tuesday from New Orleans!

The French Quarter is full of secret courtyards and gardens.  It’s magic and it’s everywhere here like no big deal.  (Big deal.)

Happy Tuesday from New Orleans!

Post-yoga treats!  When you can’t decide between green juice and sweet Vietnamese Coffee, do both!  District Hand Pies and Coffee Bar.  They have green juice on tap!  WHAT?  Too good.

Happy Tuesday from New Orleans!

The neighborhoods in New Orleans are gorgeous, even when the vines take over.

Happy Tuesday from New Orleans!

Cowbell is Uptown, nestled up against the Mississippi River.  The. Food. Is. SO. GOOD!  Easily one of favorite lunches in New Orleans.  This is a Crab Cake BLT with fries and sangria.  Livin’ like it’s a Sunday on a Tuesday.

Spend the afternoon moseying across town from Uptown over to the Bywater.

St. Roch Market is my local spot and it’s just so bright and lovely.  On Tuesday, grab a cocktail at The Mayhaw (get the ‘I Cantaloupe Even’) and head out to listen to music on the patio!

Oysters from Elysian Seafood’s Oyster Bar.  So pretty +horseradish.

A happy Tuesday in New Orleans also includes a FREE comedy show at The Howlin Wolf.  Grab a beer and a sandwich at the bar and head in for funny, sometimes very awkward stand-up comedy.

And to cap off the very best Tuesday with a visit to Frenchmen Street to see The Treme Brass Band at DBA.  Frenchman Street can be packed with people milling in and out of live music bars on the weekend.  On a Tuesday… same bustling music scene but far fewer people.  And if you know about the side door at dba, maybe you can sneak it open and just say hey to the band on stage.

It’s a Tuesday filled with soul, adventuring, very good eats, and very fine brass.  Come spend a Tuesday with us!  We do it up right.

I partnered with New Orleans Tourism to bring you this #HappyTuesday post.  Thoughts, opinions, and deep love for New Orleans are my own.

New Orleans is my home town and I miss it dearly everyday. This Tuesday was rough, and I love some Cafe du Monde and yoga right about now. So…..when can I come over for dinner?

Thinking about a location for a trip with my sisters and Mom. Is the autumn a good time to visit? My mom has a problem with heat so if we can avoid that a little, NOLA sounds like a great destination!

I have been wanting to visit New Orleans for ages! Your posts always make me want to go immediately but I really want to find a time that works for a bunch of friends. Hoping you’ll have some workshops happening in your new space when I come! Big congratulations on the move and home ownership – I’m a long-time reader but rare commenter.

I am literally sitting at MSY airport waiting on my plane to go back to NYC. I DO NOT want to leave! I want to run back outside and take a cab back to New Orleans proper and just stay. This was my 6th or 7th trip here, and I find new, wonderful things every time! We stayed in Uptown. My husband and I spent a lot of time walking around and looking at houses, what a gorgeous area. We went to the Tree of Life this afternoon after the rain stopped. Arg! Please tell me I can stay!

I love New Orleans. Nowhere did I come across bad food…the smallest, shack-like place served incredible food. The art…the people…a feast for the senses!

What. The. HECK! :D This post was made for me. Thank you. :)

Just tryna get the most cheese on my most simple s Just tryna get the most cheese on my most simple small-batch bagel recipe. Get in on this with me: ⁣
⁣
2 Easy No Yeast Bagels⁣
1/2 cup self-rising flour⁣
4 tablespoons greek yogurt (plus a teaspoon or two more if needed)
1 large egg, beaten for egg wash⁣
1/3 - 1/2 cup grated gouda or gruyere⁣
Everything bagel seasoning⁣
3 tablespoons baking soda with 2 cups of boiling water. ⁣
⁣
Place a rack in the upper third of the oven and preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spray the paper lightly with nonstick spray. ⁣
⁣
In a small bowl, use a firm spatula to work together the flour and yogurt. Add a few teaspoons of yogurt if it feels dry and knead into a cohesive ball for 5 minutes or so. Sprinkle with a bit more flour if it gets overly sticky. Cover with a damp paper towel and gather your toppings. ⁣
⁣
Divide dough in two and roll each piece into a roughly 8-inch rope. Bring the ends around and pinch into a circle. ⁣
⁣
Sprinkle the bottom of the prepared pan with grated cheese in two spots. Pour boiling water over the baking soda and float each bagel in the water for 20 or so seconds. Use a slotted spot or spatula to transfer the bagels on top of the cheese. Brush lightly with egg. Sprinkle with more cheese and everything bagel seasoning. ⁣
⁣
Bake for 20 - 22 minutes until deeply golden and bubbling. Allow to cool for 10 minutes before slicing and smearing with cream cheese.
