Let It Be Sunday, 105!

-Grab Your Coffee & Jump In

February 5, 2017 by Joy the Baker 18 Comments

Hello my friends.

Welcome to this, the first Sunday in February- sign already that the days run away like wild horses over the hills.  How are you this week? Worn in and worn out? Firm, fiery, emboldened?  What’s your adjective? I feel like I’m a cat crouching, ready to pounce, afraid I’ll be one of those cat-fail videos on YouTube when they don’t stick the landing and slide off the icy fence.  Still though… gotta jump.

But first, Sunday and coffee and reading.

Here’s some of the week, real and escapist:

•  Divided we are, and here’s what that looks like:  Blue feed v. Red feed

•  This episode of Frontline we should all watch: The Battle for Iraq.  I admire the people who take themselves to the front to make sure these stories are seen.

•  SOS:  I work from home.

•  Jacques Pépin has taught us many things; the best among them, this egg:  Pan-Crisped Deviled Eggs

•  Saying NO is the new anti-aging cream, ok? Ok, yes.

•  I literally do not know what’s real anymore.  In related news, there’s a new dating app based on mutual dislikes called Hater… so… are we ok?  Y/N?

•  Quick question from these tired legs:  What would happen if you never got up from your seat?  Oh… your bones would just give up on you? Ok.  We’ll get up (at some point).

•  Next week here on Joy the Baker we’re getting down with a major Galentine’s Day menu.  No shame in the game.  Along with the menu I’m going to partner with LunaSkye for an Instagram giveaway that is such a treat.  Look alive on Instagram this week!

•  When you find yourself alone in the airport waiting for a flight with a phone that is also a camera and companion:  All by myself.

•  This week I hosted another Cookbook Club!  We all made pasta from the Handmade Pasta Workbook and Cookbook and I must say, I can feel a new passion building.  It’s so simple and so satisfying.  We used this pasta rolling machine, and next week I’m headed here for colored pasta recipe variations.

•  Podcast I just devoured:  Accused.  I’m true crime obsessed / trying always not to get murdered and knowledge is power.

•  Time very well spent:  Tres Leches Cake.

Enjoy your day. I hope you do! Much more soon.

xo Joy

Yes! Thank you for a new true crime podcast recommendation. I’m seriously amused at the number of us out there (and even in this comment section) who are obsessed with this stuff. I’ve been laid up with an injury, and somehow listening to/watching this stuff gets me through my days of not being able to work in my kitchen. Keep up the awesome work!

Gnocchi! A Zanandrea family favorite. Twice a year our nieces and nephews and their families make enough gnocchi to serve 30-50 family members. We love how they carry on traditions.

ok. So talking about pasta…have you made spaetzle? I really want to try it. if you can push dough through a colander into boiling water and end up with pasta – I’m in. A local restaurant serves it with a mushroom and bacon sauce that makes me want to lick the plate. Mmmmm.

Thanks for the link to the red feed/blue feed. All the news of late seems to be so intensely favored towards what I believe, that I’ve been wondering how the “other side” could defend themselves. This spelled it out in a very clear way – we actually see different news, different facts, etc. Trying to suss out what is the truth is becoming increasingly complicated.

@Mary Ann, if you like Serial, check out Crime Writers On… which started as a Serial analysis podcast and now covers a lot of true crime media. Very smart and funny.

First newsletter and pretty great reads! I feel like poor Robert on my off days when I’m stuck inside reading and working on my blog. As for saying “NO”, this is so true. I find myself saying “no” and then feel the need to explain myself. But now, I’m content with just saying no and end.of.story.

I feel like I live and breathe politics lately, so I appreciated the good laugh this morning. I Work from Home and All by Myself were the best. Also appreciate the podcast recommendation (another true crime fan here) and the additional pasta resources (spinach pasta, here I come!) Happy Sunday!
