Hello dear friends!
Welcome to this fine Sunday. I hope this finds you well, warm and dry from all the rain that seems to be falling everydangwhere.
The pride of my week was that I was able to roast and stock all of the wilting vegetables in my refrigerator. Most everything went onto a pan or into the stock pot and listen, I’ll count these small victories when I win them. As part of the Food in Jars Mastery Challenge I even turned six past-their-prime satsumas and blood oranges into shrubs with some forgotten rosemary and ginger. Truth is, things are going to be alright. Likely even better than alright.
The offering this week is on the lighter side. Although – thank you for all of your thoughtful comments on last week’s post. I am thankful for your presence here and the thoughts you share.

Can someone explain the difference between super milk and half-and-half?
joythebaker
You’re asking a great question, actually.

I couldn’t agree more about Popeye’s. I don’t eat fried chicken often, but when I do, I head there. It’s always super tasty and you can get just a couple pieces and be super satisfied. And on a good day, their dirty rice is pretty darn delicious.

I wish I could eat Popeye’s, but refuse to https://www.change.org/p/popeyes-tell-popeyes-chicken-end-the-cruelty-now

I took the liberty of referring my FB folks to your blog for today, specifically the section on being a woman in America. I hope that was OK. I’m an old woman living in a small rural area . . .and still I do MANY of the same things. Thank you for the article.

Thank the Lord I am not allergic to corn…yikes! Actually, I adore cornbread… or anything closely resembling cornbread… so the blueberry cornbread recipe from The Cozy Kitchen is on my “make soon” list.
On, and one random corn related piece of trivia. Candy corn is named such because if the little”kernels” are stacked in a circle …with the white tip facing in…the result actually looks like a cross section of raw ear of corn. I saw this online with an accompanying photo and was totally surprised.

I love that you do this each Sunday. It is the first thing I go for while I drink my second cup of tea and figure out what the world has to offer for the coming week.I appreciate that you offer a range of subjects, some consciousness raising, some light. We are all the captains of our own ships and should be able to discern what content we will benefit from and what will not, and reading accordingly. I have had more than a few “Ah Ha” moments as a result of the selections included in your Let It Be Sunday posts, and for that, I am grateful! Growth isn’t always wrapped in a pretty package. Welcome to being a Citizen of Earth 2019.

The Poe/Emo test is delightful

Joy, your Sunday posts are the highlight of my weekend mornings. How else could I start a lazy day dreaming of fried chicken (and deciding never to bother making it myself) and amazed by milk innovation? Where else would I be reminded of the complexity of the modern female experience — descriptions of all the things that can make us feel unsafe, plus cleaning advice? And in a way that *works*?
Please keep doing what you do — it makes my Sundays brighter. :)

Enjoyed the “lighter side” today – an informative and much needed break from the current news cycle. Thank you for the great links!

My inner grammar nerd cringed at the typo: should be Moms- no apostrophe needed. To All The Mom’s I’ve Ignored Before (The Cut) That said, thanks for my every Sunday morning with my coffee read. I always learn stuff.

Ha! That hit me, too!
joythebaker
Oh you’re right you’re right! Thank you Debra!

Speaking of both Instagram AND jars, do you follow @brownkids on Instagram? Their names are Roe and E and they’re the most positive, inspiring, lovely people I’ve ever followed (and Roe has a class called The Jar Method – which I admittedly haven’t taken). If you don’t know them already, you should check them out!
joythebaker
Thank you for the suggestion! Headed to check them out now.

A tour de force of must reads this week. The Paris Review piece is my favorite. (When did cream become “super milk”? and Popeye’s? My kid and I stood in line for 45 minutes at Popeye’s in Montpellier (France, not Vermont) and it was SO disappointing.) Also, it’s either vinegar or baking soda; if you use them together they cancel out, chemically: https://www.quickanddirtytips.com/education/science/vinegar-baking-soda-the-ultimate-cleanser
The Russian cake article was so interesting. It kind of made me think of baba au rhum or savarin. My friend’s recipe here: https://francetaste.wordpress.com/2017/07/07/baba-au-rhum-vs-savarin/

Congratulations you managed the challenge!
