A Heart to Heartโ€ฆ Seriously, I might cry.

Can I share something with you?

Iโ€™ve been feeling a little lost lately.

I think this whole new blog has left me feeling turned around and upside down.

Let me explain.  I want to take you back to the humble beginnings of Joy the Baker.

See that picture up top?  Thatโ€™s my first site.  Oooh me Oooh my.  Pretty precious, right?  I set this site up  two years ago so I could start selling wedding cakes and wholesale baked yummies to coffee shops.  I played the wholesale and wedding cake game for a hot minute.  I chugged along on my own for a few months before it became clear that food costs and kitchen expenses made it hard for me to even break even.  Thatโ€™s when I started working in other bakeries and restaurants.  Phew.  That was relief.

Then a magical thing happened.  It really did feel like magic.  I discovered food blogs.  Itโ€™s like fireworks went off in my headโ€ฆ as silly as that sounds.  Stories plus pictures plus recipesโ€ฆ plus you just get to be yourself at every moment!?  Holy heck!  In!  I wanted in!

Old Site Pictures

Old Site Pictures

Here are some of my very first food photos, taken when I was working as the Head Baker at a tiny bakery in Burbank.  These shots?  Taken on my camera phone at 4:30 in the morning.  You think Iโ€™m kidding.  Iโ€™m totally not kidding.  Thatโ€™s some good glisten on those cinnamon rolls, right?  Thank you camera phone macro mode!

mis-en-place

Want to see my first post?  Ha!  I know itโ€™s around here somewhere.  Here!

Above is one of the first pictures I took with a fancy camera, a Canon 40D.  I propped an Ikea lamp up in the backgroundโ€ฆ thatโ€™s what is creating that yellowish glow.  Not exactly ideal, I now know.

Can  I just sayโ€ฆ I was beyond mortified when I discovered that someone had found my blog and left a lovely comment in the days that followed my first post.

Mortified.

The thought of someone finding this space and reading my words absolutely terrified me.

But it didnโ€™t terrify me enough to actually stop posting, and posting, and postingโ€ฆ and postingโ€ฆ and posting some more.

Joy the Baker

So here I amโ€ฆ almost two years later, still working a day job, cooking, blogging, throwing picnics for hundreds of people like you, and introducing a whole new look with loads of new content into my space.

Can I be honest?  Thatโ€™s what we do here, right?

This whole redesign is a big, scary thing for me.  Many, many months ago I thought I might like to start a separate blogโ€ฆ one about my silly life and all the silly things I do.  I then thoughtโ€ฆ โ€˜Hey!  Why not put my food and my life all together into one big olโ€™ fun site!?โ€™.

Here we are many months later, Iโ€™ve hired designers and fired designers.  Iโ€™ve begged coders to meet deadlines and battled hosting companies to get where I am today.  It feels like Iโ€™ve built a house, then set it on fireโ€ฆ then had it built all over againโ€ฆ but, reallyโ€ฆ less dramatic than that and without the fire.

I Fried

Iโ€™ve gone from taking pictures with my camera phone to running an entire site and keeping up with designers and coders and hosting and CSS and CPM and IE6 compatibility andโ€ฆ DUDE!  This mess is complicated!!!  Bourbon.  Where is the Bourbon?  Also doughnuts.  I need doughnuts!

Am I whining?  Iโ€™m totally pouting right now, arenโ€™t I?

Itโ€™s just that sometimes things become far more than you expectedโ€ฆ even when youโ€™re trying to expect them.

Iโ€™m telling you all thisโ€ฆ Iโ€™m showing you where Iโ€™ve come from and showing you how weโ€™re right at the beginning of where weโ€™re going, because I have an unreasonable desire to share with you the overwhelming, scary and totally exciting nature of this endeavour.  Oooh Internet, how you fussy up my emotions sometimes.

So weโ€™re in this together right?  I couldnโ€™t have nearly as much fun with this space if you werenโ€™t here to share it with me.

Thanks for being here for as long as you haveโ€ฆ even if itโ€™s only for the past two minutes.  Thanks for adjusting to all this change Iโ€™ve thrown at you.

Cream Cheese Cinnamon Rolls

Thanks for being patient as I get my footing here, yell at my hosting company, recharge the batteries on my cameraโ€ฆ. and do some freakinโ€™ dishes.

And hey!  Let me know whatโ€™s working for you hereโ€ฆ and what makes you sorta wanna yell and scream (in a bad way).  You matter.  Iโ€™m listening, unless it has anything to do with my use of the โ€˜โ€ฆโ€™, then Iโ€™m not really listening.   Holla back.

  1. Sometimes I wonder how itโ€™s possible for people who look like theyโ€™ve โ€œgot it allโ€ to be so down. Then you realize people think the same thing about you. I closed down my pathetic little blog, it was taking up too much time, with hardly any feedback, and the site templates were crappy.
So I see people like you, people whoโ€™ve โ€œgo it all!โ€ Silly, nobody really does. Itโ€™s nice to see a humble perspective, even the best stars go shooting off sometimes or dim down a little. Just for a while! Nobodyโ€™s perfect. And Iโ€™m rambling. See? Not perfect. Anyway, I just wanted to say that your real-life, down-to-earth (lots of hyphens going on here!) posts are one of the best cures for my petty teen angst, donโ€™t stop :)

  2. Joy,
I stumbled upon this post after searching for โ€œcoffee cakeโ€ on your site. I just started a food blog and Iโ€™ve never worked in a bakery or professional food setting, but boy, am I learningโ€ฆand itโ€™s all driven by my sweet tooth. But the point of this is that, itโ€™s nice to see how you started and how humble you are. I absolutely LOVE your blog, itโ€™s my go-to and I recommend it to all. Thank you for being all that you are :)

  3. I enjoyed looking at your site. I like to bake more than cook. My husband does most of the cooking, but Iโ€™m getting inspired to cook more after looking at foodie blogs. I like that you can see the process and it makes for a good read too. Iโ€™m currently battling colon cancer and find that baking can be great therapy for me. Iโ€™ll put your site in my favorites and look forward to visiting it again and trying some of your recipes. Thanks Joy the Baker.

  4. Joyโ€ฆI donโ€™t blog. I donโ€™t have a blog and I never read blogsโ€ฆexcept yours!!! It started out with โ€œhappening uponโ€ your Crannberry Banana Bread โ€“ I found the recipe and that was that! Months later, I was wanting to bake something new and yummy, and I decided to get on the internet to look around. As I was searching endless recipe sites, unsure if I could trust the ratings (yes, Iโ€™ve made the recipes with the 5 stars from 10,000 people, and some have been awful!!), and I thought about that simple bread recipe! The recipe that I loved, and so did everyone else. The recipe that one woman shared, and I felt I could trust her opinion and taste. Luckily, I kept the recipe on my โ€œFavoritesโ€ list, and it led me to your blog once again. Only this time, I stayed onโ€ฆI explored! I read, and kept looking around, and loved what I saw! I donโ€™t like the computer muchโ€ฆbut almost daily, I am drawn to your site! I canโ€™t wait to try soooo many recipes, and I love reading your whimsical tales of how you found the recipe, or invented the recipe, or whatever! So, with all that said, do what you will, keep up the amazing recipes, share with us as you willโ€ฆbut I know you have tons of us who will stick with you, whatever you choose to do!

  5. Joy, you are a breath of fresh air! Love your new design, so bright and happy (we need alot of this donโ€™t we?). Iโ€™m getting use to it but love it more now that you have the latest back on top again.
I follow you as often as I can and only wish I were a fly on the wall in your kitchen while you create all the goodies you share with us. Missed being able to come to your picnic but loved the coverage you gave it.

Keep up the great work and know it is not in vain!!!!!
    xox

  6. Thank you so much Joy for this post! That is exactly where I am right now. We ARE right at the beginning of where we are going! I love your posts, your recipes and your divine inspiration! I wish I was in LA to gobble up your goodies, alas I have to recreate them in Atlanta. Iโ€™m glad you continue each morning with such love, passion and dedication. I look forward to your future and AFFIRM your success!

  7. I must say, I miss the search bar; I used to make crazy use of that thing, when I was sure you must have some wonderful recipe for what I wanted, I just couldnโ€™t remember what post it was in, or what it was called.

  8. Hi Joy,

This new layout is beyond beautiful. So fresh and pretty! So professional! And your writing is as whimsical and welcoming as always. Iโ€™ve recommended your blog to many friends.

I can only imagine the expense of something like this. Iโ€™m not the least bit techie so I really have no idea what that would be. That said, the adsโ€ฆoh Joy, the ads. Theyโ€™re jarring and, for me, ruin the aesthetic. I dread posting a negative comment (I scanned the comments and no one else appeared to mention them so I imagine Iโ€™ll be viewed as a villian. I did want to email you privately but couldnโ€™t find an email address.) and I apologize for saying anything less than positive. But you wanted feedback and I assume you want honest feedback. It just seems a shame to create something so lovely and then have to look at someoneโ€™s yellow teeth.

Again, I apologize if this is more honesty than you wanted. Truly, youโ€™ve done a tremendous job. If someone doesnโ€™t offer you a book contract theyโ€™re simply crazy.

    1. HI

No need to apologize! I really do appreciate the feedback.

I am still working on getting the Ad situation sorted out. I saw the ugly tooth ad as well and I was mortified. I have asked my Ad company to exclude it from the rotation, if possible. Yuck! I hope itโ€™s gone soon.

Thanks for letting me know. Really.

  9. Joy, your new site is so poppin` wonderful, I almost want to give you flowers.

I`m a farmer growing flowers up in Norcal and I look forward to reading your quirky posts after a grueling day in the greenhouse. Your posts give me great joy and something to be excited about.
I can`t wait to read about all the awesomely exciting things you`ll be doing next.
(and pray to Buddah that the pancakes recipe won`t end up on my bellyโ€ฆ)

    Luvs!!

  10. Joy- oh, joy, you know your a GEM- Iโ€™ve been following your blog for a few months now, and have brought a whole slew of followers with me- (friends who now loooove your blog too) but the only complaint I have is that it take FOR EVER to load on my high speed new macbook- that takes split seconds to load everything, including facebook on a sunday afternoon! sooo thats my complaint- its not as nice as your old strait forward blog- but I still love you, and will continue to read your blog, though do to the slow loading, I must confess exiting out before it loaded (i have 3 kids under 5 and time is PRECIOUS;)
    hugs

  11. Joy, I love your blog! I only found it recently too, but I love reading it, you are so honest, warm, friendly and love your attitude and outlook on life. Itโ€™s a real treat when I see a new post and canโ€™t wait to read it. Of all the food blogs Iโ€™ve read, yours is def one of my favourites..and a fast favourite too as I havenโ€™t been reading it long! haha I think I bookmarked your site after reading the first post!!

I also like how you interact more with your readers (such as the picnic, awesome idea!) and here in your comments too. Not a lot of food bloggers actually reply or give feedback in their comment section, so thatโ€™s a refreshing change. And Iโ€™ll bet youโ€™re crazy busy too, so Iโ€™m very impressed!!

Although I really do love your new layout, it takes a bit longer to โ€˜get aroundโ€™ so to speak, not as simple as your old layout. But it just takes some getting used to, thatโ€™s all. I really like this new layout and its a fun idea to break things into different categories.
keep up the great work! :)

  12. Joy! I love your new site! I Miss you dearly, in a platonic kind of way. I hope youโ€™re doing great, and it looks like you definitely are! You ow me a call woman! Take care and god bless!

  13. Good morning Joy,
Your writing is just wonderfully warm and funny; I read all of your archives just recently. The new site is a bit more trying and complex to navigate though.
For your new site, could you put a link to your โ€œpreviousโ€ and โ€œnextโ€ posts so that if we miss a few we can easily click to them?
Also, are you able to create a subscription field so that readers can receive email notices when you have posted something new?
    With thanks, Ruby

  14. Oh wow. Those captures of the original site are pretty awesomesauce. Just wow. Andโ€ฆ youโ€™ve come so far!!! ;-)

  15. Iโ€™ve been following for over a year, indulge in your blog everyday โ€“ itโ€™s so inspiring. My kids even ask for those โ€œJoy pancakesโ€ by name.

While on holiday in Poland, I saw some cute little plates and thought, โ€œbet Joy would love these little beauties.โ€

I love the personal anecdotes โ€“ make me smile. The new blog is really cute โ€“ just wish I could see the latest post first.
Thanks for being out there and inspiring!!

  16. Joy, your blog is my absolute favoriteโ€“not just because of your delectable recipes, but also because of your honesty, sense of humor, and overall adorable nature.

The funny thing about the Internet is, you canโ€™t feel all the readers who are made happier by your blog posts. But look at all the comments! Weโ€™re here! You make us smile, and want to bake up a storm. So letโ€™s all be invisible friends; and weโ€™ll all help each other when we get overwhelmed. You shall conquer!

  17. Hi Joy!

I too love the adorable new site (and can appreciate the modern and SEO-friendly redesign) but I also donโ€™t like having to click around and go exploring. I feel like the most recent post being the first thing on the page was somehow greeting and welcoming me in the old layout.

However, I LOVE you and your site and Iโ€™m sure that it will just take (and be well worth) some getting used to.

    Cheers!

    1. I sure hope itโ€™s easy to get used to Aimee!
I promise that Iโ€™ll always have the latest post as the first slide show picture, and the top link in the little blerb of writing directly below the slide showโ€ฆ deal?

  18. I just want to say that your little blog makes me smile. I will never forget a while ago, I was sitting at my desk at work, having a pretty not-so-nice day and took a break. I found your blog that day and it was about your bank. That was so funny, I forgot about my issues for a minute, and it felt like I had a laugh with a friend. That , my friend, is why I keep readingโ€ฆ

    Thank you,
    Tiffany

  19. Oh my, may I chime in with my adoration and thanks?! I discovered your site only a few days ago, but it was bookmarked immediately. I think I may be in love!

While I agree that the site takes a bit to load, I am willing to stick it out. You are a great photographer, talented baker, and witty writer. Seriously, I think I may be in love!

I enjoy baking and find this site to be inspirational and generally freaking fantastic! Just what I needed to set aside work and study for a moment and create something wonderful for my friends and family.

I thank youโ€ฆ as does my cake lovinโ€™ husband.

    Lis

  20. joy, being honest, i miss your old layout. it was so humble and real. this new one is very cool and advanced but it lacks the down to earth-ness that was so evident with your old blog.
still great recipes and fun to read. just dont sell out ;)
    <3

    1. I understand how you might like the old design better. I hope you can learn to love this one as well.

Andโ€ฆ if this is selling out then, HOT DANG is selling out a lot of work!!! I always thought it would be much easier! :)

  21. Joy, when I found your blog a few months ago it was the highlight of my day, and it is still one of the first sites I check when I sit down at my computer in the morning. The only suggestion I have is some sort of personal recipe box function, where I could add specific recipes that I have made or want to make so that I have them in an easy to find place for later use.

Thanks for all the amazing baking inspiration.

  22. First, Iโ€™m going to echo the Joy love thatโ€™s flowing in this comments section right now. Your regular readers, like me, would read your blog even if it was some minimalist Blogger default template. The photos and voice of a blog are what makes a great blog and keeps people coming back. Tweaking the design and stuff is great and all (love what youโ€™ve done to the place, by the way), but something I feel like we bloggers really do for ourselves to keep it fresh and moving forward.

I totally feel you on having the kind of passion for your site that can be more than slightly crazymaking sometimes. But I try to remind myself that I am my own boss when it comes to my site, I report to no one regarding deadlines for posts and content and how things look (a several month hiatus after birthing a flippinโ€™ baby just felt right to me, okay?). I want to make my readers happy so they keep coming back, naturally, but not at the expense of my sanity. Thatโ€™s usually the time that I take a step back, make a recipe or two without photographing it or writing about it, and just enjoy the process. And try and get out and just live a littleโ€“life experiences make a blogger more interesting! Remember that your site is an extension of yourself, so keep you life interesting first and foremost, and interesting content will naturally come from that. Donโ€™t lose yourself in self-imposed internet stress!

    Keep up the great work!

    PSโ€“How were the Melting Greens?!

    1. Thanks so much Shauna! The Melting Greens were amazing! Iโ€™m going to make another batch tomorrow morning and hopefully take pictures of it before I gobble them down! Thanks so much for passing the recipe along! Love!

  23. Joy, I adore your blog. Seriously, I look forward to it every day and make the recipes on a frequent basis. I also think the new design is really, really cute!

That being said, your site now takes forever to load. :( Maybe itโ€™s my POS computer, but I donโ€™t have problems with other sites. Andโ€ฆI think I preferred everything in one place rather than clicking through to get to all the good bits.

Heart you tho and even a lil extra time and clicking wonโ€™t change the fact that Iโ€™m hopelessly devoted to yooou. ;)

    Katie

  24. Hi Joy,

I rarely comment, but I am addicted to your blog! While it took a few visits to get used to the new design, I can say that I love it. It seems like it has a little more of you in it.

I love the stories and your recipes always work out great.

    Keep it up!!

  25. Hi Joy,

I think you may know by now, but we think youโ€™re pretty cool. It is really amazing how you share your life with me and the world out there. And although weโ€™ve never met, it feels like I know you. I think sharing food with people is that best way to let them get to know you, so maybe thatโ€™s why I feel like weโ€™re friendsโ€ฆ.because Iโ€™ve made so many of your recipes and have pretty much loved them all. So keep it up, Joy! Maybe one day you can eat my pancakes, but until then Iโ€™ll keep bakinโ€™ yours!

  26. Joy I think you are fabulous, fun, and smart. Your blog is my absolute favorite (Iโ€™m so serious). I love seeing the pictures of your life in LA because Iโ€™m in little olโ€™ Maine. You are an inspiration to me. Chin up, doll.

  27. I love your blog Joy. Iโ€™ve only been following for a few months but Iโ€™ve tried several recipes already and recommended them to my newsletter subscribers, which I hope has opened up their eyes to the world of food blogs and the Joy of Baking that I love. The old blog was great, but the new look is fabulous and I am glad Iโ€™m along for the ride.

  28. i love the new design! i think youโ€™re splendid!

am i stupid, or do you no longer have a search bar. i liked being able to type in โ€˜potatoโ€™ and have it tell me everything youโ€™ve done with potatoes. so, could we have the search function back? please?

ps: i made the carrot cake pancakes last night, and they were DELICIOUS!!! thank you :)

    1. Youโ€™re definitely not stupid but you did miss the search bar up on the tippy top of the page.

Maybe I should add a potato category to the recipe index too..

      Thanks!

  29. Joy,
I found you through Tastespotting, and I was delighted to find a blog with great recipes, eloquent writing and beautiful pictures. Whenever I miss my old bakery job I turn to you to fulfill my vicarious needs, and many of your delicious goods now fill the stomachs of the foster kids I work with.(I made a strawberry cake last week for a birthday girl)

You are awesome, and there is a legion of bakers cheering at your side to prove it. As I slowly save up bits of my pathetic student salary for a Kitchen Aid Mixer and an Canon Rebel, I hope that one day Iโ€™ll grow up to be just like you.

    Thanks,
    Summer

  30. i have secret dreams of being a baker and, if i were, i would want to grow up and be like you.
you being you and putting it out here for us is enough.
i do, however, understand the kind of ridiculous nature of blogging just begs to be analyzed. weโ€™re writing about ourselves, does that make us super crazy narcissistic or is it possible to remain authentic in this sea of me me me?
at least, this is what i deal with.
just stay true to your heart. when you are speaking your truth (and for the love of all that is holy adding BAKED GOODS to the mix) itโ€™s evident. and we eat it up.
(good lord, that was corny there at the end. but iโ€™m leaving it.)

  31. Joy I love your blog, it inspires me to be a better baker (or just to be a baker!) but Iโ€™m amazed at how much you put into your blog, itโ€™s full of heart, great food and great photos.

  32. Change is hard as lame as that sounds but enjoy the ride. You truly are gifted ride it as long as you can. We need it!!!

  33. I really enjoy your blog and I am not a food blogger, just a foodie at heart. Good for you for sticking with it. I have been at my blog for six months and sometimes wonder why I keep up with it. Do enough people look at it to make it worthwhile, am I wasting too much time on this thing, etc.? But, itโ€™s been fun and Iโ€™ve found some great places to spend a few minutes of my time like your place. The personal reflections are great and they add a nice touch to the recipes. Keep it up and stop by my blog one of these days. You have inspired me to keep going.

  34. I love your blog. I love it so much Iโ€™ve shown it to other people, cramming it i their face like a kid who has found a shiny shell on the beach โ€“ look..look! LOOOOK!!

Happily nobody has gone โ€œuhโ€ฆyeahโ€ฆ thatโ€™sโ€ฆum, really interesting.. now put it down and wash your handsโ€.

    No.

Theyโ€™ve gone, โ€œOMG SQUEEE!! Look at the pictures! That recipe sounds awesome! Oh I have to show this to my mother/bestfriend/flatmate/co-workerโ€ฆโ€

    You should be proud :)

  35. I have been a lurker for a long time, but never posted. I think your blog bring JOY to so many people. I admire your creativity and willingness to share it. I love your website and actually prefer the new design. Change always stinks, but it makes you grow and think a little bit different than before. Keep it upโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆJust wished I lived in LA area instead of London area. Iโ€™d have been at that rooftop picnic in a NY minute!

  36. I love reading your blog! I get super delicious recipes and snazzy ideas from you! And I love your quirky sense of humor and positive outlook on life! Youโ€™re an inspiration, Joy! Keep it up!

p.s. My boyfriend is a photographer and gives you two thumbs up on the delicious, mouth-watering photos you post! :) yah for you!

  37. Hi Joy.

Thank you so much for your wonderful blog. It is the place on the internet that I come to read when I need a break from my life. I love my life, really I do, but I research trauma and genocide and sometimes, life needs to be about cupcakes and bees.

Your writing, photography, and recipes provide lightness to balance the density of pain.

    Jen

  38. Joy, I am so excited for you! The website is and was very cool, you should be proud. I loved your very first post. When I was first learning to cook, my mom was forever telling me,โ€Do you have everything assembled on the counter?โ€. It is a big scary idea, sharing your thoughts and putting yourself out there for the general public. You have done a wonderful job and I am sure your loved ones are very proud of you.
PS โ€“ LOVE the glazed lime cake!

  39. Joy, Iโ€™m prolly one of your oldest followers, and Iโ€™ve been following you for about a year now. The first time I commented I was mortified that I was defending you regarding a post written by your dad!!! It was pretty weird to find that out, and once I got over it, I did laugh. But I must tell you a secret. You and your blogโ€ฆwell you kind of brought me back from a haze I was in. Iโ€™ve been baking forever, along with cooking, but had lost the โ€˜sparkโ€™, so to speak. I have a kid about your age, and since sheโ€™s gone it just didnโ€™t seem to matter what got slapped on the table for dinner. Oh, I still cooked, even whipped out a box cake once in a while, but there was no โ€˜oomphโ€™ to it. Then one night, stumbling around, I found YOU. Wow, I thought, that looks interesting! And your personal writes made me feel kind of homey with ya. So I kept coming back. Then I made one of your cakes. Cupcakes. Cinnamon rolls. And you brought me back! Thanks for being the sparkle you are, and no matter WHAT you do to this blog, I will figure it out and return as long as you keep putting yourself out there. One thing I do miss tho is the cute pic of you that used to be here. But the new one is fine. Whatever you do is fine!!! Thank you always!!

  40. Hi Joy โ€“ Like Megan (#52!), I often donโ€™t post because I feel a bit like Johnny-come-lately to the party when itโ€™s late in the day and everyone else has already said witty, happy things about your fabulousness. But I check your blog EVERY day because I donโ€™t want to miss a recipe, and anecdote, or an open letter to a rude airplane passenger. You rock. Seriously.

  41. Wow. Itโ€™s good to know that Iโ€™m not the only one that feels a little nuts sometimes. I love your blog though. I look forward to seeing all that youโ€™ve got new (both in the kitchen and out) each day. Iโ€™m not a big one for change, either, so I feel ya there. Iโ€™m loving the new site too! Keep up the good work, Joy! =)

  42. Joy, you dear, thanks for sharing your thoughts! It is your blog, after all, and I think that you ought to just keep being yourself at this spot in the virtual web, because as for me, I love reading what you have to say!

As for trying new things and being terrified about it, I know perfectly well what you mean, though in different contexts. :) But I am learning that sometimes these kinds of crazy things are doors that lead to big and amazing things, even if we donโ€™t see the end right away.

Keep posting, whether you have good or bad things on your mind and heart!

  43. We love you, your blog and especially your recipies!!!! Yeah the new blog took some getting used to. And yeah I hate change but this is good. Iโ€™m on your site as much as humanly possible! You have inspired me to think about a change in careers. Oh, and did I mention your style of writting totally reminds me of my childhood best friend.( Ah sweet memories) Am I blabbing? Anywayโ€ฆ YOU ROCK!

  44. Change is an adventure and youโ€™re adventurous! They new site is awesome, and as a totally technically challenged individual โ€“ itโ€™s so user friendly. And pretty! I canโ€™t wait until you have a cookbook!

  45. I heart your blog. itโ€™s seriously my favourite one out thereโ€ฆ I even blog about my love of it. your personality and recipes are the absolute BOMB! thatโ€™s for being yourself, letting all of us foodies who think like you that itโ€™s cool to be soooo into bakingโ€ฆ. not only do i feel like i get a great recipe when i visit your site โ€“ i feel like iโ€™m catching up with an old friend. thanks for being so pure and lovely and full of joyโ€ฆ thanks for being you. Your new site is awesomeโ€ฆ keep up the brilliant work! (oh โ€“ i wish i was a half as creative as you areโ€ฆ but i love trying) :0)

  46. Hi Joy, I LOVE your blog. It is such a refreshing break from work :) Keep pouring your heart out and do what you love!

  47. hey joy! i left a comment before regarding the new layout- which is really gorgeous ;) but just wanted to reiterate how incredible i think you are- for undertaking this whole blog makeover, and even the blog at all, and for taking time out to give to others, like with the whole picnic get-together! i think youโ€™re great! take your time to adjust, dont worry, itโ€™ll be awesome ;)

  48. just being honest hereโ€ฆlove the change/update, but dislike the double click navigation it takes to get to the meat (i.e. the food!). Iโ€™m looking for easy access to recipes and find your newer design harder to work with. If you donโ€™t catch the rotating/flip image on the landing page, you end up clicking through to something else. Otherwise, have to click on โ€œin the kitchenโ€ Am I getting that right? Also, as long as Iโ€™m being honestโ€ฆthe pale pink, light gray text is not so easy to see. There. I said it. Carry on, Joy. Enjoy the work you produce, even if itโ€™s hard to get at. Thx.

    1. I totally understand your frustration. Iโ€™ve put links below the slide show that will take you directly into the posts that are featured in pictures. Those links are in big pink lettersโ€ฆ and they donโ€™t rotate, so you wonโ€™t be taken somewhere you donโ€™t want to go.

      Thanks for the feedback!

  49. Hello Joy!

My name is Kenny and Iโ€™m 18 years old. For the past year Iโ€™ve gotten really interested in baking and have been taking photos of some of my stuff and posting them onto my facebook. I search online for new recipes that catch my eye and thatโ€™s how I found your blog. Your blog is my FAVORITE blog of all the blogs Iโ€™ve come accross. Your recipes and ideas are absolutely fantastic and your photos are beautiful. I probably check your blog 5 times a week. Youโ€™ve really got a talent.
After reading this latest blog I felt compelled to respond and to tell you what an amazing job youโ€™re doing. Cheer up please and donโ€™t worry. I look up to you.

    Sincerely,

    Kenny

    1. Kenny! Thank you so much for the sweet comment! You totally made my day! Happy Baking and let me know if you have any recipe requests. Iโ€™ll try my best to bake em up for you!

      1. Hello again Joy!

I do have a recipe request, but please ignore it or excuse it if itโ€™s unappealing. Iโ€™ve tried making challah a couple of times and everytime it comes out, well, poorly :(
I was just wondering if you had a good challah recipe and the intructions for the process. I always have some trouble with bread baking. Iโ€™m also a sweet potato fanatic so if youโ€™d rather not do the challah, Iโ€™d love to see how your sweet potato pie looks.
Well Iโ€™m leaving for college soon, but luckily Iโ€™ll have access to a kitchen and Iโ€™ll keep on looking into your blog.

        Sincerely,

        Kenny

  50. I think Iโ€™ll go have a doughnut. Maybe that will help you you feel better. Virtual doughnut eating. Works for me. And then Iโ€™ll sit back and enjoy reading your blog like I always do. Then maybe Iโ€™ll have another doughnut.

  51. You are very sweet and talented. Iโ€™m sure you have plenty of followers. Iโ€™ve only commented once before but Iโ€™ve been checking out your recipes for quite a while.

  52. Oh Joy, you are like โ€œLike Water for Chocolateโ€ in blog form. You are pure heart and soul, passion and uncertainty. I love it any time you come to this space and tell us a story, any which way you se fit. That thereโ€™s a stack of pancakes and a recipe in there somewhere is just a bonus. I particularly enjoy when you talk about your family and your quest for โ€œhusband hugs.โ€

  53. Joy, kudos to you for being brave to do what you do. Your dedication to this site certainly shows. And you always make me laugh, in a good way.
p.s. I ordered the Hummingbird book and it is lovely. I canโ€™t wait to make something from it.

  54. I love, love, love your blog! One thing, however, is that I would love to be able to read all your posts chronologically. I just found your blog a few months ago, so I am trying to go back and read all the older posts.

Other than that, I have to say, this is my FAVORITE blog, and I love how real you are and how you write! Every recipe of yours I have tried (which is a lot at this point!) has turned out insanely delicious!

    1. I suppose the only way to read my blog mostly chronologically is to go through the In the Kitchen posts, and keep clicking back for the previous posts at the bottom of the page. If I think of a better wayโ€ฆ Iโ€™ll let you know!

  55. When Iโ€™m sad, I come to your blog and it makes me smile, makes me happy. When I want something delicious and comforting to bake, I come to your blog and I find it. I think the new site is lovely, but truthfully, it could be a white word document with black text, and you, Joy, would still be enchanting and wonderful to read and bake with.

  56. Itโ€™s funny, because I too am starting out a new venture, very nervously, and am trying to get my head around blogs and sites and design and such. I always wanted to make comic books, and I have been for the last year, and Iโ€™m going to exhibit at the Small Press Expo in a few weeks, my very first experience trying to sell my work. Been trying to put some kind of blog together so I can sell my work online, and what Iโ€™ve got now is so simple and dopey-amateur looking. Funny thing is, I saw your beautiful site redesign and felt really inadequate โ€“ itโ€™s so slick and classic and lovely. But knowing it took a while to get to this point, that your site started out just as simple as mine is, well, thatโ€™s nice to see. And all this site design and maintenance stuff is manageable, though it takes some patience. This post of yours is encouraging, so thanks. :-)

Anyways, just sharing. *hugs* your way. Youโ€™re a cool chick and I feel like your friend, though itโ€™s only through the Interweb. ;-) I read this site every day. Iโ€™ll keep reading and baking, you keep working out the kinks.

  57. I totally know where youโ€™ve been with the redesignโ€“it took us over a year to get The Cupcakes Club to work the way we want it to and there are still some tweaks that need to be tweaked.
We have had so many people come over and take a peek by being โ€œfriendsโ€ with you this last weekโ€“thank you! Like you, we still try to figure out new ways to make money to pay for everythingโ€“but I just received an email from a grandma who had sent some Cupcakes Club products to her grandchild and told us how her graddaughter was SO excited to get something in the mail JUST FOR HER and LOVED it allโ€“and you have to sigh.
Itโ€™s exhausting and draining..but obviously you must love what you doโ€“just like we do with our โ€œCupcakeโ€ girls- to keep going for it. Best of luck and thanks for all you do!

  58. Hey Prettyโ€ฆ
Iโ€™ve been here since the almost beginning. Iโ€™ve weathered changes with you and am delighted to get a sneak peak into your life as well as your cooking. You are enchanting and delightful and quite often bring a smile to my lips and a lift to my day, even when youโ€™re freaking out. I like that you are real and appreciate your openness. Youโ€™re right, this was made for you, that my dear was evident from the beginning.
    Keep on rockin girl!

  59. Joy, I think your blog โ€” both old and new โ€” is AWESOME! You can go to any food blog and find good recipes, but your blog is super rad in that your personality shines through and keeps me wanting to come back daily to check it it out. Your witty, sincere, heartfelt, honest writing is what makes this blog aโ€ฆwell a joy to read! Donโ€™t change a thing! Be you and that is all we need! OK, and your recipes are pretty wonderful as well.

  60. Oh, Joy. One of my life beliefs is, โ€œThink Big! But, be easy on yourself.โ€ Youโ€™ve created an adventure for yourself- and itโ€™s all there because you had the drive to do it. Youโ€™ve created the world of Joy The Baker, and you brought us all along for the ride.

We love that! And personally, I wouldnโ€™t have started blogging (itโ€™s been a week now!) had it not been for the gentle and whimsical voice youโ€™ve given your blog.

If it all seems to much, have a bourbon, a donut and take a little break. Think Big, but go easy on yourself, Joy.

    all the best,
    Chef Robear

  61. Joy-
I look forward to checking your blog every day. I know exactly the excitement you felt when you discovered food blogs, I did it about two months ago! I just hope I can get as good at
    a) baking
    b) taking photos
    c) writing about it
as you have become! (At the very least I can practice the bourbon and doughnut consumption side of things!) Keep at it, if nothing else than for the inspiration you give for baking days everywhere!

  62. i love love love your blog. i am only a recent follower of the past few months but it is exactly what i dream to be doing one day. thank you for giving me a peak into your life and letting me live a little vicariously through you!

  63. Joy, I find that change is (always, for me anyway) painful and tends to stir up so many emotions. I hate change. Dread it. Fear it even, at times. However, if thereโ€™s one thing Iโ€™ve learned, itโ€™s that change is good. It may take time for the dust to settle, to get back into that coveted comfort zone (ohh how I lurrrve the โ€˜comfort zoneโ€™!), but youโ€™ll get there. And it will be good.

Donโ€™t worry lovely lady! Just go with the flow and itโ€™ll take you where you need to be :)

  64. I have been a long time follower of your blog, but this is my first comment. Iโ€™ve never commented before, because letโ€™s face itโ€ฆ.lotโ€™s of other people comment, and tell you exactly what Iโ€™m thinkinโ€™! But Iโ€™m writing now to officially declareโ€ฆ.I love your blogโ€ฆI love your personality that shineโ€™s through your words on here, and I have tried several of your recipes, and they have all been AWESOME! Iโ€™m always excited to see when you have posted something new! I appreciate all that you have gone through, to present such a JOY in my life! :)

  65. Iโ€™ve always enjoyed your blog and am grateful for the time, effort and sharing you do for all of us. It canโ€™t be easy and change can be scaryโ€ฆ.blogs may change but stay true to yourself! Weโ€™ll always be here for you!

  66. Joy, I love following this blog because weโ€™re the same age (10 year class reunions, ugh) and you inspire me to push myself a little, redesign my own blog, actually start writing in it once in awhile. Note, I said you inspire me toโ€ฆnot that Iโ€™ve actually done yet.
Keep it up. Although I love the redesign, itโ€™s really the tone of the writing that keeps me coming back.

  67. Joy,
It is truly apparent that this is something you love and comes from your heart. It shines through every word that you write and every picture that you take. You are one lucky girl to have found your passion. How many people search their entire life to find what you have?

    Blessings.

  68. Joy-just keep on being you and baking all of your great stuff-the blog, design, and associated BS will change, but as long as the you and your goodies stay the same-fresh, funky, sassy and real, Iโ€™ll be checking in every day for my fix!!

  69. Love love the blog. Iโ€™m new here so I had your old blog for about a month before the โ€œredecorationโ€. Love it!

oh..and gimme some of those shiny cinnamon rolls.

  70. Iโ€™m totally with you there, Iโ€™m going sort of through the same โ€“ having the blog redesigned, will still be a personal foodblog, though linked to what I hope will also be a job (as you can see Iโ€™m not saying anything yet, just in case!).
Sorry itโ€™s all in Italian, Iโ€™ve had twin bilingual Italian and Spanish blogs until now, will eventually move on to Spanish only (thatโ€™s where I live). I sometimes wish I wrote it in English, but being the language knowledge the way it is in Spain Iโ€™d have very few local followersโ€ฆ

Keep pu the good job, I love reading you!

  71. Joyโ€ฆkeep up the good work. Im sad that what started out simple has been stressing you out. Just make it the way it makes you happiest and donโ€™t worry about us total strangers out here! I enjoy reading about your life and love your recipes. I like finding out that there are some normal people living out there in LA! :) I love learning about places that you love to go and am thankful that you like to share those pictures with us. Take a deep breath and have a great holiday weekend!

  72. I had no idea that internet blogging entailed so much work. As I read it struck me that although you may earn your money from someone else you are, nevertheless, self-employed.

Youโ€™re brave to open your mind to us like you do and, with what you offer, Iโ€™ll keep coming back regardless of the site format (which, by the way, I think is just super). You have a good soul and I wish all good things.

  73. I love the new site you have created. The color scheme, whimisical theme, and layout take it up to a new level of professionalism while letting your charm and personality still shine through. Hang in there, the dust will settle soon!

  74. Itโ€™s hard to get used to the new format, but Iโ€™m sure with feedback and trial and error youโ€™ll get it right. It certainly wonโ€™t stop me from visiting each day. I donโ€™t have a blog of my own, but I have been in heaven since discovering the world of food blogs. I love to bake, but donโ€™t have the gift of words. I love your recipes and your stories of real life happenings. Keep it up!!

  75. I love and truly adore you!!! I am so going to start a blog one of these days and its all because of you well you and Framgirl Susan but thats for a different commentโ€ฆanywho the new blog is fab and the only thing I might want to yell and scream about is that there isnโ€™t enough time in the day to try all of the yummy sounding recipies I find on here consistantly! You are amazing Joy!!! So keep it coming!

  76. Joy, I love the new site design and have been reading every single one of your posts for the past few months now. Keep up the great work! :)

  77. Someone told me about your blog just a few days ago so I am a newcomer to your yummy world. But just wanted to let you know that your design is so cute and whimsical. And seeing the images from your original site is pretty cool. Interweaving life with food with art is a beautiful thing. Happy 2 years to you!

  78. Iโ€™m worried about sounding critical, but you did ask, right? Iโ€™ll do the compliment sandwich: I love, love your stream of thought posts. I think the new site is sort of bland, especially the all white comment section here. Maybe add more pink? And I love your simple fun recipes. No one can have too many pancakes at my house either. There. Howโ€™d that go? (And I like to print your recipes too- maybe a printer ready version?)

    1. Jill! You donโ€™t sound critical! Iโ€™m looking for feedback, thank you!
Have you found the printer friendly versions of my recipes? Thereโ€™s a link to printer friendly just below the title of the recipe, within the postโ€ฆ. where the recipe is. Maybe I should do a post on thisโ€ฆ
Thanks for the feedback! so much!

  79. Your recipes are fantastic. You put honest feedback, advice, and โ€œlife lessonsโ€ into your posts which all result in something yummy for the tummy, mind and soul! Youโ€™ve added new twists and turns to my โ€œold standbyโ€ recipe list, and I trust when a new post/recipe is upโ€ฆitโ€™s worth a try!

  80. Is blogland going through some kind of identity crisis? I kid you not Iโ€™ve come across very similar stuff in at least three different blogs over the last week or two. Maybe itโ€™s the change of season, or the wondering if anyone misses you when youโ€™re gone, or the justifying of all the work that goes into a good blog that has all of you in such a state.

Youโ€™re doing a great job, hang in there.

  81. Thank you for your candid and honest post. Your website looks great. Blogging is not easy. There are a lot of blogs out there, but a lot of them are filled with fluff. I love the way you showcase a recipe with your stories and personality. It is not just a recipe.

A lot of us voted for you for the Bloggies 2009 because we believed in your ability, and your great blog. Not just because you wanted us to vote for you. This is why we read your blog. Please keep going and sharing with us. I know I look forward to your new posts.

  82. Joy, you keep on doing exactly what you are doing, because you are inspirational. I am pretty much where you were two years ago โ€” several months into my โ€œlife via whatever I am cookingโ€ blog and amazed (and a little terrified) that people I am not related to are READING it. So keep doing it, and please please keep putting up these posts about the process, because you are lighting the way for all of us coming behind you. THANK YOU!

  83. The evolution of your site is a reflection of your own evolution. Thereโ€™s more going on in your life, you have more to say, more to bake, and more people follow. I love the changes.

Are people giving you a hard time? โ€˜Cause Iโ€™ll go beat them up, I will.

  84. Your simple statement, I feel lost, was all I needed to hear this morning. Knowing that thereโ€™s a cake-baking, heart-pouring fellow-seeker out there trying to figure it all out too was like a little hug. Iโ€™m in a major life transition into single-motherhood and I follow your blog religiously because itโ€™s a little bite of happy in a rocky road. So rock on, and thanks for reminding me to live in the question and keep baking.

  85. So Iโ€™ve been getting really emotional about EVERYTHING lately, from movies, to books, and now apparently blogs. Thanks fro everything YOU do Joy the Baker!

  86. Love ALL of your posts. My only issue is printing the recipes because unless I copy and paste into word, I end up jamming the printer at work because of the 100+ comments people have left at the end of each recipe posting that print along with your coveted recipe :) Iโ€™d love to be able to have a link to a printable recipe, sans comments. Or I could just be less lazy and copy and paste into word. Your recipes are totally worth it!!!

    1. Guess what!? I finally got with it and made Printable Recipes. The link to a simple and printable recipe is just below the recipe title. Let me know if you have trouble finding it!

  87. Joy,
As an amateur blogger who has ended up mixing life with recipes with life, I love the combination. I have far, far fewer readers than you, but I think people appreciate variety. I personally love knowing more about people, so in this case, donโ€™t be shy! For me, my blog started out as a personal blog, but when I started cooking more, recipes started popping up on the blog. So keep it up โ€“ donโ€™t doubt yourself, girl!

  88. Let me say again how much I enjoy reading your blog. It is always so incredibly joyful ;] and so Iโ€™m impressed by the way in which youโ€™re sharing your anxieties with the readers โ€“ it must have taken some courage to do this!

The new design is lovely (though frankly speaking it wonโ€™t always load correctly and the site comes in two parts on my screen โ€“ probably the fault of my Internet connection). It might take some time to get used to it but thatโ€™s what new things are all about, right?

    Iโ€™m glad youโ€™re blogging here!

  89. Joy, I couldnโ€™t possibly write anything more eloquent than the comments already posted about how wonderful and amazing your blog is! I keep coming back to your blog because your recipes have made me a hero at home and at work, your cheery site makes me smile, and your honest and heartfelt writing inspires me to be a better person and blogger.

Perhaps my husbandโ€™s recent comments to me after yet another baking adventure will put it in perspective better than I can: โ€œSweetie, your baking skills were already pretty good. Ever since you started reading that blog โ€“ and Iโ€™ll be honest, those 10 minutes at the computer every day make me jealous! โ€“ your baking ability has gone through the roof and youโ€™re a happier person. When youโ€™re happy, Iโ€™m happy, so keep doing what youโ€™re doing!โ€

So, Joy? Donโ€™t worry about what we think โ€“ do what makes you happy, because when youโ€™re happy, then weโ€™re happy (and slightly rounder, but who cares?)!! :)

    1. Aw! Thanks for the beautiful comment Shauna! Iโ€™m glad that you can find cool stuff here to bring into your home to make you and your hubby happy. Dang thatโ€™s cool!

  90. Hey Joy!
The reason I keep coming back and reading your lovely blog is because of your honest personality which shows through in the funny writing, and all the delicious things you blog. I mean, your photography skills are amazing and can make me hungry for bakes full of ingredients I donโ€™t even like! Some of the new layout is a bit confusing (like the scrolling photos at the top) but it wonโ€™t stop people reading because youโ€™re still posting! As long as you still enjoy your own blog and getting comments etc, then thats all that matters whether youโ€™re posting on the simplest blogger template or the fanciest multi-page website :D

  91. Another post I needed to read on a day when Iโ€™m feeling a little overwhelmed by the whole โ€œmaking a living as a professional cupcakerโ€. Some days u question it all, but then, it comes back to what youโ€™ve saidโ€“itโ€™s scary but in a โ€œgood wayโ€. thanx for the courage to be yourself, honest and true-means alot to your readers. have a good one!

  92. Hey Joy โ€“ Iโ€™m really delighted for you! You sound manic but happy manic at the moment and thatโ€™s always good. I myself am working in a job I donโ€™t like [understatement] and am trying to build up the courage to start a blog to satisfy the other parts of my life that I do likeโ€ฆ Iโ€™m trying, trying to focus on it and it seems to not be working very fast โ€“ something always in the way. I cook and write. They are the two things I do. Thatโ€™s it โ€“ no exercise, I donโ€™t help stranded whales find their way back to the water, I donโ€™t save the world, but I do do those two things. The reason Iโ€™m telling you this is cause youโ€™re pretty inspirational stuff! You here, doing what you do, itโ€™s fire-in-the-belly kinda inspirational! So much so that I have created a blog and am now just trying to hammer out my first post โ€“ see, youโ€™re inspiring ! The new look blog is great โ€“ keep it up

  93. Hey Joy,

I like your food posts. I like your crazy hey-look-what-I-found-posts. I like your confidentially-talking-to-the-reader-posts. I like it all! Please donโ€™t ever stop! You inspire meโ€ฆ

  94. YAY for Joy โ€“ thanks for sticking it out and delighting us all with your magic.

The new design was worth it and one of these days you are going to feel just as comfortable here as in worn out jeans.

    I almost doโ€ฆ

  96. While some information on the site is better organized (the very obvious recipe menu makes browsing your old posts easier), Iโ€™m finding that the site is taking a lot longer to load (and itโ€™s not my connection, people) and that some of the presentation seems jumbled and confusing. Overall, I donโ€™t like this layout as much as the last one, which was more straight-forward (for example, the new image rotating link bar makes it difficult to keep track of whatโ€™s new and whatโ€™s a couple posts old โ€“ not good). I love the colours, though!

    1. Itโ€™s definitely not your connection. I know Joy has been expressing frustration with her hosting company on Twitter. Apparently she is being โ€˜throttledโ€™ now that she in getting more traffic. Sounds like she will be changing hosts soon. (Hopefully!)

  97. Iโ€™m glad to hear that Iโ€™m not the only one who is completely overwhelmed sometimes with how their internet baby has grown. Though change is good and growing up is better, it can be a bit frightening.

  98. Hello Joy the Baker, iโ€™m Sandy from the Philippines, i just recently stumbled upon your blog and to be a honest, i love love love it! Iโ€™m also a baker just like you and i enjoy your funny, informative and downright delicious post! I made your fudgy brownie recipe just yesterday and it was so damn fudgy and oh so good! Thank you for sharing recipes and also fun stories about your life. I will keep visiting your site and hopefully re create your delicious recipes. Thanks for being and inspiration. Lots of love =)

  99. Iโ€™m really glad you put up that list thing below the picture scrolling part (BTW, I hope my technical computer jargon isnโ€™t too much for you to handle). It helps me keep track of which posts Iโ€™ve already read, something I was having trouble with when only the scrolling picture thing happened. Iโ€™m a little sad cause I canโ€™t view the blog at work anymore (our intertubes are too narrow or something, so says IT guy) but itโ€™s ok, gives me something to look forward to when I get home!

On another note, I really love the gusto with which you live life. It is uplifting and inspiring and I hope you stay JOYousโ€ฆ

    (sorry, couldnโ€™t help the pun)

  100. I love your blog. I look at it almost every day as itโ€™s really fun and cute and cheery. Foodwise โ€“ It inspires me to bake and try new things I wouldnโ€™t normally.

Non-foodwise: I love seeing the fun things you get up to โ€“ the cute pictures you take and hearing little snippets about your life all the way across the globe.

Itโ€™s fun and lovely and the new site is great. yes I did find the change a little scary at first, but I have since adapted and I love the new look! YAY!

  101. In this day and age when the internet keeps people separate from one another, youโ€™ve proved the opposite to be true. Your writing, your recipes, your photos, and yes, you yourself bring people together. People who love food โ€“ love to cook it, bake it, and eat it โ€“ gather here in this space that YOUโ€™VE created, and that will always be something for you to call your own. Everyone who comes here feels like they know you, because youโ€™ve allowed us access to your talent and creativity. For those of us who had a chance to meet you in person a couple of weeks ago, well, that was just icing on the cake. You keep doing what youโ€™re doing, change it, tweak it, keep it the same, it doesnโ€™t matter โ€“ weโ€™ll be here no matter what.

  102. I felt to touched reading this. The thing that impresses me most about you is that youโ€™re always authentic and real. I love reading about your life and your love of food because of that. In some ways, it must seem things are getting a little crazy seem strange looking back to where you started but you deserve all your success so much and itโ€™s such a pleasure travelling with you on this food odyssey.

  103. Ok you totally impress me more and more every day! Your camera skills at 4:30 in the morning are better than my camera skills when I am fully awake and with a camera phone, dang girl, you are good! I love your new site, its loading smoothly now. Keep going, you got it and I will keep baking and I will keep eating!

  104. Yeah, I know how you feel โ€“ except for the professional baker part. We do get so emotionally attached to our food blog when the food blog is a mirror of our life. Mine is like that, me and food all wrapped up together as one. But as husband says โ€œStay focused, do what makes YOU happy and not what you think will make someone else happy. It has to be you, all natural, as you feel.โ€ Donโ€™t get yourself so freaked out by the whole that you lose what is important โ€“ the food you love to make, the writing that comes from the heart. You are a fantastic baker and your blog is amazing. Keep it up!

  105. Your fancy technology is chocolate for the eye and the new site is super cool. But your honest down-to-earth funny SELF is what keeps me coming back to this blog after Iโ€™ve abandoned all the others.

  106. I so enjoy your blog and share it with all my friends. I even have it featured on my blog. When I read Joy the Baker itโ€™s like Iโ€™m actually getting out of it whatever a cupcake does after a tough day at work, and when I read todayโ€™s post I felt a little guilty like I had been taking this wonderful thing from you and not giving back (aka commenting/thanking you). So, thank you. Itโ€™s absolutely delicious. xoxo.

  107. Just so you know, I think youโ€™re pretty cute, your blog is kinda awesome, your first post is just as enjoyable as your most recent and those sunglasses suit you like nobodyโ€™s business. Thanks for sharing your life and your wicked cooking skills with all of us on the internet. Your recipes are kind of awesome for my impressing-dates skills and super enjoyable for my distraction from work for a few minutes a day.

Keep up the good work, will ya?

  108. Joy, you are the awesomest.

Iโ€™m coming at this from the other side. Iโ€™ve spent the last 10 or so years making web pages and learning all about HTML, CSS and programming and blogs. Itโ€™s only been in the past 6 months that Iโ€™ve come to terms with the fact that I am capable of baking intoxicatingly good desserts as long as I have some decent recipes and some photos to inspire me. Exciting times.
