All the Things You Made

december collage

Good Lord.

I’m so full of food.

I probably won’t eat again until 2012.

But! Yesterday you attacked my comment section with the most lovely Christmas wishes and all sorts of excitement about the goodies coming out of your kitchen.

You reached back into my archives, put on your baking gloves (duh) and got goin’ in your kitchen to create some sugarlove for your families.  I’m so glad I could be a part of that!  Blame me for those tightening trousers.  I totally think it’s worth it.

Here’s what you made! Ps.  I’m proud of you.

Creme Fraiche Quiche

Katie made this Creme Fraiche Quiche for her Christmas brunch.

She called it “flavorful and fluffy”.  She’s totally right.

Chocolate Crackle Cookies

Lina made these Chocolate Brownie Cookies drizzled with white chocolate and dried cranberries.

She also greeted me with a “Sup, brah.”… which is totally uncommon.

Sweet and Spicy Baked Almonds

These Sweet and Spicy Almonds were a big hit for Roohbaroo.  She hogged all the compliments… well deserved.

Parker House Rolls

These Parker House Rolls are yeasty and topped with butter.  Ms. Wong said they were “AMAZING”.  Caps lock means things are pretty serious.

Someone made a vegetable.  That’s a miracle in itself.  Lisa made vegetables with butter… and she says she’ll make it again.   High five.

Eggnog Pancakes

Joy in Amsterdam made these Egg Nog Pancakes for her first Christmas alone.  That makes my heart feel good.  Get it, girl.

Cranberry Coffee Cake

This is the second year Mischa made this Cranberry Coffee Cake for her family.  Um… sounds like a tradition to me!

IMG_3386

Gina made this Vegetarian Chili for her family.  She skipped the jalapeno and topped it with sour cream.  Smartypants.

Cream Cheese Cinnamon Rolls

Cream Cheese Cinnamon Rolls are just about the best thing ever.  Adrienne and her sister woke up at 5am Christmas morning to make these for their family.  Wendy made these Christmas morning so her boys would wake up to yeasty cinnamony smells.  Kim gave these a shot too.  Am I the only one who didn’t have cinnamon rolls on Christmas morning?

Anne’s Kitchen made this Vegan Pumpkin Apple Cranberry Bread for her friend in an effort to get her vegan friend into baking.  That’s sweet.

Um… ok.  I have to go stop eating for like… the rest of my life.

  1. I happened across your blog and what a treat. I love your sense of humor. Thanks for sharing. I’ll check back in again as soon as I can (work is interrupting my fun!)

  2. I made the pumpkin bread, too! Once again used all whole wheat flour and a 1/2 c. of applesauce = perfection. Perfectly moist and dense, not dry or crumbly at all! Yum!

  3. I made the Brown Sugar Apple Cheesecake and it was a huge hit. I combined the original and your way of making it though – I made it like a regular cheesecake in a springform pan but put the apples over the top. So delicious. Stranded snow guests finished it off over the weekend!

  4. Hey Joy!
I know all about the not eating until probably forever…
But I also made eggnog pancakes on Christmas Eve morning. The family loved them.
    Thanks!

  5. love your blog.. well I love you too but Im sure that sounds creepy.. anyways, made your buttermilk biscuits and they were a huge hit! thanks for making me look like an awesome baker!

  6. I made low-fat oatmeal banana bread, in muffin form and or course had to add chocolate chips!
They were a huge hit, my favorite go to recipe and I always add what I have lying around (mango, cranberries, m&ms…)
Not to toot my own horn but Joy, I’ve made fans of yours out of my grocery store cashier and my yoga teacher and especially my boyfriend! Thanks for all the inspiration!

  7. I too, made the Apple, pumpkin Vegan bread for 2 friends & they loved it. One is my neice and she is always asking me to make her something vegan & this is the first time I ever did & she loved it. Thank you.

  8. Oh, I didn’t know we were chiming in about all the deliciousness we’ve indulged in from your website! I have to add, because I hand made all my gifts this year, and two of them came from here!

I made my mom cinnamon sugar biscotti to go along with the Honduran Microloan Coffee I got her. Reminiscent of the cinnamon sugar toast we’d make her for breakfast in bed as kids!

I made my brother the maple bacon kettle corn. It was so delicious that I actually gave him the second batch after my friends and I devoured the first.

Also, in going through and tagging all the recipes I was interested in, I got my rooommate hooked on your blog. There are many more recipes I didn’t get to that I can’t wait to try after the holidays!

  9. I made your vegan pumpkin bread, like, 100 times. Everybody luuurved it. And it’s SO dang easy to make. Must. stop. eating.

  10. I made the lemon souffle pudding for my annual Christmas reunion dinner with my besties from high school. It was absolutely perfect after a huge meal–creamy and dessert-y enough for the chocolate lovers, but light and intensely lemony and refreshing. Will absolutely make again. And again. Happy Holidays!

  11. This year I made the Oatmeal Blueberry Applesauce Muffins, Orange Poppy Seed Muffins (using your lemon recipe as a template), Toasted Coconut Cookies and the Giant Vanilla Bean Sugar Cookies as the base for my Key Lime Ice Cream Sandwiches. Your recipes are easy to follow and have yielded awesome results for me, particularly the poppy seed muffins and the coconut cookies. And I look forward to more of your recipes.

  12. My family has cinnamon rolls every Christmas morning, too. :) That tradition is my favorite. I also made your apple crisp recipe for dessert that night– first try and everyone loved it! You’re awesome.

  13. I made your kettle corn (me and my girl’s new favorite snack) to eat while we watched Little Women and made your lemon poppy seed muffins for a pre-gift snack on Christmas morning- soooo yummy- loved that real lemon flavor. Thanks!!!!

  14. I just made your pumpkin pie poptarts!!!!!! they disappeared in like 6 minutes. (but that was because I made my facebook status “Just Baked Pumpkin Pie Poptarts” which caused my whole apartment building to come over and eat them all…)
But it was worth it. They were delightfully wonderful.

  22. I normally do overnight cinnamon rolls for Christmas morning, but this year I tried overnight French Toast.. oh my … found the recipe in an old cookbook … doctored it up a little and… after serving… I had to give my husband smelling salts. He totally LOVED it. Which I LOVED. :) Cooking for family is my favorite way to give them a hug, from the inside lol.

  23. yes. yes, you are the only person that doesn’t have cinnamon rolls on Christmas morning. as much as i hate to say this, i made the ones out of the can. although, i convinced my mom to buy the brand name and not some knock off. yay for me (and for cinnamon rolls)!

  24. Making vegetables is quite a feat on Christmas day. I made green beans, corn, and peas…and I noticed at the end of the meal that none of them ended up on my plate.

  31. Aww the Joy-the-baker-soldiers out in full force! I love! I’m up in NYC and for todays breakfast as all five members of my family are home for the rare snow day (we got 20+ inches!), I made each The Single Lady Pancake. Built for one and built to please. They all loved but, don’t worry I shared the credit with the ever lovin Joy! I truly love this post, like an extension of the joy and togetherness of xmas, but with some of the tastiest looking food know to man!

  32. Hi Joy!
I’m lucky for two reasons. One: my Christmas gift this year was a KitchenAid Mixer. Two: My mom’s birthday is the day after Christmas. You know what that means right? TWO extravagant cakes in TWO nights. I made the Double Chocolate Devils Food Cake with Raspberries for Christmas (I’ve never received so many compliments in my life!) and the Vanilla Bean Cake with Vanilla Rosewater Buttercream (and 3 kinds of berries) for my mom’s birthday. It was so much fun, the cakes looked beautiful, and your recipes were flawless. Thank you again for being here and giving us fun recipes that we can do and we can trust.
    Have a Happy New Year!

  33. I made your cranberry cornmeal bread for the second year. I am the only one who eats it, so boohoo for me, I get the whole loaf!!! My little personal tradition.

  34. Hey, this is fun. It was a Joy the Baker weekend here too! Apple Crisp last night and roasted cauliflower with butter and garlic on Christmas. Thanks Joy, for the great recipes, wit and orange kitten photos!

  35. Oh! And also made your chewy ginger cookies and oatmeal cookies with white chocolate and cherries for passing out to the neighbors. So you earned me gold stars with the neighbors AND the in-laws.

  36. I also made your spicy veggie chili and pepper jack scones and served them with vegan tamales from a local restaurant on Christmas Eve! Earned lots of gold stars from the in-laws! Thanks Joy!

  37. yeah for homemade yummies. I made the oatmeal walnut cookie sandwiches for my sister who loves oatmeal cream pies. But these were better. Merry Christmas Joy. Thanks for all the recipes.

  38. I brought “your” Carrot Cake to our famiy reunion on Christmas day and gave out “your” Oatmeal Walnut Chocolate Chips cookies as Christmas present to my friends and cousins — needless to say, both were a hit :-)

    Merry Christmas Joy!

  39. I made your shrimp and grits for a party. Increased the amount 4 times and sweated blood over worrying about overcooking them but they turned out great! I got rave reviews for them. Love your website and your great recipes and comments.

  40. I made vanilla extract to give as gifts, and vanilla vodka for myself (and some for gifts also) – we’ve had some delish vanilla/chocolatini’s with it!

  41. Ohhh, I made the jalapeño scones but with parmesan cheese, and they were delicious.
And I’m going to make them again for new years, they are addictive

  42. Hey!!
Almost everyday I come to your website to look at the awsome recipes you have here, but today I have six apples, cinnamon, raisins, sugar and butter in my kitchen, so I came for inspiration. Thanks for your fantastic work, it means a lot to me, specially in super busy days, because it makes me happy.
    Saludos desde Venezuela!
