Friends, hi hello and happy Sunday! Reporting love from Texas Hill Country where Will and I have taken to the out of doors. ย Thereโs trout in these waters, though, thatโs none of our business. We rode motorcycles up and along some twisted roads this weekend and I can confidently report, I made it back to eat the tuna salad I brought for lunch. ย Itโs the little things, ya know?
This week has felt entirely impatient. Like Iโm trying to fit all of the successes of a full year into the month of January. ย This little trip away has been a good reminder to let the year unfold as it will. ย Letโs see what we have in store. We canโt miss what is meant for us, right?
To that end, hereโs a few easy Sunday reads. Take what you need and continue to ease into what will be a wonderful year.
โขย What do you call your momโs best friend who has known you for entirely of your existence?ย Aunt, right? My favorite read this week came from my Aunt Janet whom I love beyond measure. ย Ski Boys Are My Weakness. In my view, the title of the article isnโt as strong as the article itself.ย Please read if you need a reminder of your inherent wild spirit and how absolutely glorious it is.ย (Outside Magazine)ย
โขย Related:ย Pam Houstonโs Deep Creek: Finding Hope In The High Country just bumped itself up to the top of my reading list (Norton)
โขย Science says you need a little hobby.ย My craft closet (currently all in storage in Katy, TX) would suggest I have several. (Self)
โข ย Would you dump someone if they didnโt peel you an orange? Will would peel me an orange for me, thank goodness.ย But the full on, Olympic level gymnastics Iโve executed contorting myself into the wrong relationships in the pastโฆ I could have used this orange experiment earlier.ย (Vox)ย
โขย This King Cake-Inspired Bostock is essentially a very fancy almond croissant toast.ย If you need a little Mardi Gras spirit, this is it! (Joy the Baker)ย
โขย In aging news: Iโm doing it.ย Iโve noticed that my lips are getting more pale by the year. ย Are we waiting for flesh colored lips to be the next trend or are we just living our lives? Iโve never been someone who can keep up with lipstick and I think Iโve finally found a lipstain that lasts most of the day.ย Itโs this Wonderskin Lip Stain.ย Itโs a mask that goes on blue (itโs weird) and then wipes off to all-day color.ย No need buy the spray peel applicator stuff.ย I have the shades Whimsical and XOXO and theyโre both present but pretty natural. (Wonderskin)ย ย
โขย In things Iโve rebought in the last week because I love them:ย ย BioSil Collagen Generatorย is a little bottle I bought because I thought it might help my fragile fingernails stop peeling.ย Not only have my nails stopped peeling but all the baby hairs around my forehead are sprouting like weeds. Iโve also reordered Anima Mundi Liver Vitality Greens which I drink every morning with 100% cranberry juice and water.ย I feel fortified (and I havenโt gotten sick all winter soโฆ I dunno!). ย (Amazon)
โขย Iโve given up paying for manicures and pedicures and I just keep my nails short and clean with this Dermelect Nail Base Color. Iโve put more nude nail colors on my fingers than I can count and this is my favorite.ย Iโm hard on my nails and really gel manicures are the only manicures that donโt chip.ย With this very pale, lightweight color, the chips arenโt noticeable. As a Gemini I canโt be constrained to a gel manicure. Itโs very claustrophobic. Itโs fine. (Amazon)
โขย One of my intentions this year is to bake more bread.ย The cost of bread in the grocery store these days? Get a grip.ย Iโve been baking this super easy No-Knead Crusty White Bread from King Arthur Baking. It’s incredibly satisfying with salted butter and jam for breakfast and truly SO EASY. ย Itโs more of an investment in flours, but Iโve also been baking this Gluten-Free Seeded Loaf of Bread from The Loopy Whisk.ย Psyllium husk is a game changer in gluten free baking.ย ย
โขย I can confirm that Graza Olive Oil in their cheeky little squeeze bottles are worth the hype.ย Thereโs a large โSizzleโ bottle of Spanish olive oil meant to be sauteed and roasted and a โDrizzleโ bottle of olive oil meant to squeeze over soups and onto salads with a grasseir finish. Both are fantastic and I have to admit I LOVE the squeeze bottle method.ย Use code JOYTHEBAKER for $5 off if youโd like to try it for yourself! (Graza)
โขย Itโs nearly Valentineโs Day, which I love for the chocolate alone. French Broad Chocolates are my absolute favorite and if youโre thinking of gifting chocolate this season, may I humbly recommend these bonbons.ย I treasure these chocolates so much they last me well into April so consider it a gift that keeps on giving.ย ย
โขย Iโm working on an Easter Brunch menu for us and I canโt get these Butter Swim Biscuits out of my head.ย I meanโฆ the name alone, right?ย Do you think these biscuits would be good with a tad bit more sugar and loads of fresh blueberries? Iโm thinking we can ride the line between biscuit and scone but maybe I should just leave well enough alone? Your thoughts are appreciated. (Washington Post)
โข ย The song Iโve had in my head all week: Overjoyed. (Spotify)
Have a wonderful Sunday! Find a little winter sunshine if you can!
My love to you.
Xo Joy

I’ve used butter swim biscuits for strawberry shortcake and heck yes, you could do it with blueberries!! Delicious!
Ok amazing! Thank you for this cosign!
I just made Kat’s gf bagels this morning! A revelation – my gf honey is thrilled…years without bagels are unacceptable! Happy Sunday, Joy –
Years without bagels sounds like torture. Kat’s recipes are a dang gift!
Oh Stevie. Always such a vibe.
Hi Joy, I just read Ski Boys Are My Weakness and boy doesnโt that resonate. Far too many times in my past I have personally, or have watched friends and loved ones allow themselves to be diminished by their significant other. And to what end? Letโs all find and use our voices even if they tremble at first. To thy own self be true.
I’ve been all the way there, Stella. And to what end, exactly! We can be our own wild.
Iโm so excited Deep Creek got a shoutout and has made its way to your reading list! I bought it on a whim in a Colorado mountain bookstore a few years ago and loved it so much I gave two copies away.
Gah! It’s finding its way! I love that! I feel like it’s just what I need to read right now.
I agree- love the Graza olive oil. The Drizzle is the best tasting in my opinion. I did a side by side taste test with my regular olive oil and it tastes so much better. It’s a little expensive, but regrettably worth it.
Stevie Wonder??
LOVE.
Oh, the orange test. There was this one video where you could hear the boyfriend telling her she could do it herself and that she wasn’t that special. Yikes. You never know what’s fake but, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’d actually said that like it was no big deal. Younger me had a Phd in mental gymnastics to excuse more than a sorry excuse of a boyfriend so, I’d know, lol.
My Sunday has already included a lovely walk in the sunshine and there’s a flan parisien waiting in the fridge, so can’t complain!
