Let It Be Sunday

Let It Be Sunday

Hello friends! ย Welcome to another Sunday! ย This weekend my new neighborhood, the Irish Channel, is alive with green beer, Irish pride, and lots of dudes in green cumberbunds handing fake flower out to ladies in the Irish Channel Parade. ย You’re supposed to kiss the dude on the cheek when they give you a flower… kiss them on the cheek and ignore the fact that they’re a sweaty stranger with a fake flower… or maybe embrace that actually? ย It’s New Orleans. ย You’re supposed to just go with it even though it feels like a swampy episode of The Bachelor.

Along with all the green, it’s Easter candy (and yes… Lent) season and if you’re not careful, I’m going to buy every singleย Cadbury Easter candy-coated mini eggs. ย I’m not even kidding.

Cheersย to you, your cozy pajamas, and that extra cup of hot tea.

  1. I recently discovered The First Mess blog and yea.. I’m not vegan or anything but wow. everything is stunning, and, as you said, food. Now I’m dying to try ground millet as polenta. and basically everything else

  2. Just checked out The Piano Tuner at my lovely library in Bay St. Louis — I’ll let you know! Also — Mini Cadbury Eggs – they are so addictive!! I feel your need :)

  3. “Before I Go” story was simply wonderful. Being a 7 year cancer survivor, I’m so aware of living for the moment and “seizing the day.” What a lovely man. Thank you for sharing his story.

  4. Call me crazy or rude, but I wouldn’t kiss a stranger on the cheek just for giving me a flower even it if was considered appropriate. Hug maybe, but kiss…….nope!

  5. The article by the neurosurgeon really touched my heart. It really puts life into perspective and makes you think how you really want to be spending your time. Thanks for sharing this, Joy.

  6. Oh Joy… I have a girlfriend dealing with cancer right now & that article could not have come at a better time. I actually fell down a rabbit hole & read his other articles, along with his obit. What an elegant soul. Thank you for that.

On (another) note, I made your snickerdoodle strawberry shortcakes last night (despite the blazing SoCal heat) & they were delish. Yes, I used the plural. Also heated one up with some butter & strawberry jam for breakfast…. Xoxo

  7. I hope you had as fun of a time watching the parade yesterday as I had walking in it (I’m in the Daughters of Lir walking krewe) . . . it was a lovely day for a parade, if not sweaty kisses (which I totally get – oftentimes when I give a throw to a dude, they insist on a kiss as a “thank you”. So it happens on both sides of the parade experience at this time of year. LOL!

  8. Last year no one told me that the Irish Channel parade would involve lots of sweaty cheek kisses in exchange for fake flowers…it took several jello shots before I was ok with that. And I wholeheartedly second the recommendation for The Piano Tuner; I absolutely love that book. It was compelling and beautiful and mysterious and surprising all at the same time.

  9. Oh…IKEA…tip: get an allen tip for your drill/electric screw driver. You will never need one of their tiny screwdrivers again. And assembling their furniture won’t suck nearly as much :-)

  10. Traveled to NOLA for the first time last week-loved it! Can see why you live there-only downside-humidity and my hair-not a good combo. Went to several of your recommendations on previous blogs-outstanding. We ate and drank like crazy!
