Hello my friends. We’ve made it to Sunday. That in itself this week feels… like a bit of deliverance. Just a bit.
I hope this finds you with a moment to unwind yourself. I’ve felt pretty wound and bound this week. The Senate hearings, the content, the tone, the spectacle, the opinions, it’s been PLENTY on top of life’s normal work and pay the bills hustle. Can we take a moment to acknowledge that whether we want or have the ability to, we’ve carried a lot this week. All of us.
In other news, your girl (that’s me) is (yes) still in Yoga Teacher Training / still can’t do a handstand / now knows that’s not the point of anything / AND is taking her final exam today. So… just putting that out there to lightly and prematurely pat myself on the back because your girl (that’s still me) is ready to be done and have her weekends for champagne consumption, word?
Unrelated, among the things I made this week: Brown Butter Banana Bread.
Here is the offering this week. As always, take whatcha need and if you’re mad, be mad. I’m mad sometimes too:
โข This week we’ve explored who gets to be angry in public. Let’s also explore how we can change that and why why why we must. Fury Is A Political Weapon and Women Need To Wield It. (The New York Times)
โข What we’re watching this weekend: Minding The Gap. (Hulu)
โข A million reasons to love, laugh with, admire, and want to be friends with: Maya Rudolph. (The New York Times)
โข We’ve really got to stop. Consider: the existential void of the Instagrammable ‘museum’. (The New York Times)
โข This week’s long-read is the incredible story and eternal life of the instant noodle. (BBC)
โข You literally do not have to tell me twice: You Should Be Eating Pie For Breakfast. (Eater)
โข Can I tell you about a low-voltage cocktail that I really love? Cynar and Lemon Soda. (Supercell)
โข The offering this weekend is to make Harissa Caramel Corn. Ya feel me? (Joy the Baker)
โข APPLES, amen. We’ll be making this soon: Apple Cinnamon Twist Bread from King Arthur Flour.
โข I am incredibly excited for this pie book. LOTS of pies this Fall and Winter. Are you with me? Sister Pie by Lisa Ludwinski. (Amazon)
โข We’ve got some great events coming up at The Bakehouse! Food photography, dinners with cookbook authors, pie baking, yoga and doughnuts. A little something for everyone who wants to gather. Check out the list of events and availability here! (The Bakehouse and Eventbrite)
โข A little tonic that is never not in my purse: Urban Moonshine. I use it after a meal, anytime I need to ease a questionable belly moment, or if I need to stress eat something and I’ve already eaten all my Altoid mints (too real?). (Amazon)
โข I very much love these rings from Marta Pia.
Be well today.
My love to you.
xo Joy

I’m obsessed with your brown butter banana bread. I’ve made it a dozen times and it’s always amazing.
The new website format is beautiful. I was looking through your recipe categories and noticed that you now have to scroll through each recipe in its entirety to sort through the categories. Is there an easier way to look through the categories without having to scroll through the full recipes? Maybe I missed something. Thanks!
Good reads like everytime!
I really enjoy your weekly collection. You are an inspiration for all of us. thank you for sharing this post
My assault came back to me listening to her. The 2 front doors made a lot of sense to me. When I would be in a room with a male much older than me I would be looking for an escape route even though probably nothing would happen. I always felt the need for an escape. I was 8 when it happened to me. Something you don’t forget. I don’t remember the day the time I remember the face and what he did. I wanted to slap everyone of those old white men on that committee!
Did you see the Kitchenette series of pendants from Marta Pia (https://martapia.com/search?q=kitchenette)?
Go Yoga Teacher Go!!! But wait….Sundays for drinking champagne????? I finished my YTT last December and now I’m teaching 7 classes a week….and two of them are on Sundays!! I must have missed something!!! Look forward to the blog every week!!! Thank you for all!!!!
Thank you, Joy. Absolute best of luck with your final exam — you’ll so rock it! “Spectacle” is the absolute correct word for it, and I think that’s true that we’ve all been through a lot. Good news on eating pie for breakfast, because I did that sometimes anyway :) And a great book to reference to make said pies. Hope it was a fab Sunday!
Thanks for the Urban Moonshine recommendation. I just purchased it!
Thank you for another great Sunday post! Good luck on your test tomorrow!
Yes. That NYT piece on rage and fury perfectly articulated the feelings I was having while listening to him. All that fury and disrespect and lack of decorum- I kept thinking WTF? If she had acted that way she would be crucified. Thanks for recommending. ANd good luck, you little yogi.
Thank for the pie, love, and kindess, Joy.
And thanks from the past when you posted the photo of you and your father (maybe with the sweet potato pie?) and another time with a link to What’s Going On. You are doing good things everyday, and I am grateful.
Good luck for today! Virtual champagne toast!
Just seeing a bowl full of batter makes me feel a little better. Thank you.
Here to help!
Well now I understand the Hall of Breakfast temporary exhibit at my local mall. I couldnโt quite figure out what it was…they donโt serve breakfast at all, but Iโve been seeing photos of people posing with giant donut displays and whatnot. I guess thatโs literally all it is… opportunities to pose for Instagram photos. ?????
Please remove me from your emailNJ list. I wish to unsubscribe. I just.get too many emails. Thanks.
Terry, why don’t you open up an email and unsubscribe at the bottom? It’s not any harder than subscribing. I promise. Have a blessed day!
Congratulations on all your accomplishments and on your courage. You are woman! (all caps). Whew..I am ready to start my day…week..
Thank you so much.
Good luck with your exam today. Your brown butter banana bread is my favorite way to unwind or prepare for what comes next. We make it almost every week.
Yes, good luck with your exam. I took a yoga teacher training class in 2009. One of the best things Iโve ever done but I still donโt do headstands and Iโm ok with that.
I look forward to your Sunday emails.
Thank you so much Yvonne! I’m thankful you’re here.
Hey Darlinโ Good luck with your exam. Your an inspiration for us all! Hoping I was going to be able to signup for your Pie class, but the boyfriend is performing at Voice of the Wetlands in Houma that weekend. Iโll keep an eye out for another pie class. I must perfect that crust!!?
So we have lost being innocent until proven guilty…God help us if this is our future.
My thoughts exactly!
We still have that in a *criminal trial*. This is not a criminal trial.
This isn’t a criminal trial. This is a job interview for a lifetime position. Why wouldn’t we want to carefully vet all applicants and select the woman or man that would bring the most honor and respect to the position?
His emotional swings and truly disrespectful attitude to any Democrat asking a question should be enough to disqualify him from serving in a supposed nonpartisan position.
I really enjoy your weekly collection of interesting stuff!! I think it was in your banana bread post where
you talked about unpacking and getting out all your cookbooks and arranging by color. I have soooo many cookbooks and now I arrange some in my kitchen by seasonal color. Right now, with all the fall pumpkiny, leafy decorations, the ones with black spines looked at home. The rest of my cookbooks are kept a hallway bookshelf.
Good luck with final. Youโll get the handstand when you get the handstand.
Pie ? Birthday Pie>Birthday Cake amirite?!
Come to Pittsburgh. New place recently opened Pie For Breakfast. $3 Chug-a-mugs of beer! Have I tempted you yet? ??
Wishing you many success for the exam!
