This is one of my favorite ways to count to five.
It has chocolate. So.. yea.
Do you get those giant chocolate oranges at Christmas? It’s a giant bulb of chocolate shaped like an orange, with wedge segments and everything… and it tastes like an orange! Well, an orange drowned in chocolate. I love those things… but I’m a weirdo.
I turned one of those chocolate oranges into a scone with butter and buttermilk. So tender. Like little pillows of good.
Orange and Dark Chocolate Buttermilk Scones
makes four large or six small scones
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
2 teaspoons orange zest
2 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
6 tablespoons cold unsalted butter
1 large egg yolk
1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons cold buttermilk
1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
Place rack in the upper third of the oven and preheat to 425 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
In a mixing bowl, sift together flour, sugar, orange zest, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse meal. I use my fingers to rub the butter and dry ingredients together. In another bowl, combine egg yolk and buttermilk and beat lightly with a fork. Add to flour mixture all at once, stirring enough to make a soft dough. Fold in the chocolate chips.
Turn out onto a floured board and knead about 15 times. Roll or pat out into a 1-inch thickness. Cut into 4 large or 6 small squares. Place on prepared baking sheet and bake at 425 degrees F for 12-15 minutes. These are best when serve immediately with butter and jam.

Just made these again, love them! So does my daughter, and her boyfriend! Thanks for a recipe I keep as a classic!

I am from the Western U.S…..and scones there are a sweet bread dough that is fried in oil. Very yummy with honey butter or homemade preserves. Now in the South….I am more acquainted with this type of scone. They look delicious! I would think that the buttermilk gives them a softer texture. Looks very very tasty!
Laura Lentz
Excellent recipe!!!!!!! I’ve been looking for a scone recipe that isn’t dry or too buttery–thank you! For those of you who crawl out of bed and want to make a delicious scone but don’t have buttermilk in the fridge: use one tablespoon of lemon juice and add milk until you have one cup all together. Let it sit for 5 minutes and it works beautifully!
thanks again for a wonderful recipe. I’ll have to enjoy the rest of your site now!! :)
Emily
Last weekend I was looking for a scone recipe for brunch and, like you, I was inspired by the chocolate orange I have sitting in my cabinet from Christmas. These were the perfect combination of light and citrusy and chocolatey and indulgent. I also added in some homemade candied orange zest for a little more orange flavor. Totally delicious – and my guests loved them!
Jackie
These are DELICIOUS!! Thanks for sharing!!
Kristen
Making these scones for the memorial of an 86-year old seasoned citizen who raised three boys off the coast of South Africa. These scones will be a perfect accompaniment to the memorial of this robust, sweet woman.
Katie Marie
These were great! I made them exactly as directed and they turned out wonderful, except I made 2 batches. I wanted to make enough for my brother and dad to have during the week being that I was going back to college, but they were gone before the weekend was even over. Definitely a keeper :)
Sarah
These look delicious. I love those chocolate oranges!
Tamara @jemofthesouth
I just made these this morning, but I over-kneaded my dough. :-( But they are still yummy! :-)
Parveen
Loved them ! Did a choc-chip/caramel version, they are baking now, smelling great ! Thanks for the recipe (:
Sarah Beth
I love, love these! Its one of the few things I can make and know will come out. My family actually requested i bring them for our vacation. Just wanted to say “Thanks!”
Nadine
on this ugly, rainy night, i made these as a fun little treat! not only were they super easy to make, but super tasty!!! will totally be making these again!!!
Nicole
Made these tonight. They were AWESOME. Thanks for the great recipe. I doubled the recipe and didn’t have any trouble with the dough. Made 8 large (perfect breakfast serving) beautiful scones.
lovefeedingthefamilyandtryingnewrecipes
I am new to this website, but came to a screeching halt when I saw chocolate and orange in the Recipe Index, definitely one of my favorite combos. I am originally from England and the orange I believe you are talking about, Joy, originated there – Terry’s Chocolate Orange, I love them too, especially if you put them in the fridge!
the tasty tRuth
I’ve never been crazy about those chocolate oranges…ever since I won one in a classroom activity in the sixth grade. This might be the perfect way to use them up!
Anne
I have a dark chocolate orange ball sitting on my desk right now, so its no surprise that I’d like to have these on my desk (in my face) right now too. =D
Kocinera
These scones describe absolutely every food and flavor that my mom loves. I’ll definitely have to make these for her very, very soon. Of course, I may need to taste one or two as well. :D
Gen
Delicious! Perfect for a good brunch.
Brian @ A Thought For Food
Your scone recipe looks very similar to my go-to recipe. I’m kind of a scone addict, so I am just adoring this post!
Kaylie @ Skinny Muffin
YES. I always get one of those!! I got one yesterday. I might make these but chop up the chocolate from the chocolate orange to use for a little more flavor. YUM.
jennie
omg, these are the perfect scone. the texture, the flavors, the everything. i love them!
Carrie
I added a 1/4 cup of chia seeds, used a little bit of whole wheat flour, and they turned out wonderful!
Christine
These came out awesome!! Thank you for sharing the recipe!
Eliz
Making this but substituting the chocolate for dried currants, I know who substitutes chocolate for fruit but what do you think? Will it be swell or ehh??
Jessica
Amazing! Joy – you are a genius!
: )
Marie
Up until last night I hated scones because every one I’d had was like a dry, crumbly brick. I couldn’t figure out why people liked them so much, but I was determined to find out so I came to your site to do some searching. I figured you would have a good scone recipe. I was soo right because last night I made these scones, on a whim, and they were like deliciously tender biscuit-y things! I am now a believer in the value of scones. These are scones done right. I did lemon zest and white chocolate chips instead. Except, I totally forgot the white chocolate chips…whatevs. They were still amazing. THANK YOU! :)
Emi Sorensen
These are wonderful. Mine turned out to have more of a biscuit-y texture, but they still float my boat! I love the orange zing and who doesn’t love melted chocolate bits for breakfast!?
Aurora
Joy these were great! I may reduce the salt next time- it was a little noticeably salty. I did up the orange to a little more than a TB, and I thought it was great like that. I would really love to use a good quality dark chocolate that has a orange flavor- I know Lindt has a good bar. I love that these aren’t very sweet! I ended up with 7, though one was noticeably smaller than the others haha. I baked them for 10 min.
Jamie
Made a double batch of these this morning and they are almost all gone…better hide one now to warm up with tea later! Delicious…this is going in my permanent recipe file. Thanks Joy!
Marie Baars
YUM!
I made these for my book keeping class tonight ( I doubled the recipe, but there is only 8 of us including the teacher haha!) And they were a huge hit! Everyone lovvveeeddd them and I am now required to bring snacks every class :)
Jillian
Marie!
that is totally what happened in my Marketing class. They made me nutrition provider or something silly like that. Haha.
Aimee Stephenson
I love your blog oh-so-much. This recipe was super-easy and made the most delectable looking scones. I whipped this up for my boyfriend’s birthday breakfast, and I haven’t eaten one yet, but they look amazing! I had never made scones before, and this was so simple and gratifying to bake. Thank you so much <3
Eponine
I made these scones over the weekend and I couldn’t stop eating them! They were amazing! And scones are always so tricky but these weren’t. I was even able to mix whole wheat flour with the white flour and they still turned out moist and fluffy.
I did, however, think that there wasn’t enough orange flavor compared to the chocolate so I changed it to 1/3 cup of chocolate and added a bit of orange extract to the batter. I also added an orange glaze/icing on the top. For the recipe and my comments on these scones, see my blog: https://deareponine.wordpress.com.
Thanks Joy for this recipe. They were great.
Andrea
I loved these scones! I had dark chocolate orange left over from Christmas, so I decided to chop it up and use that in this recipe. They turned out perfectly, so light and fluffy!
Isa
LOVE YOUR BLOG!
Scarleth
Hey Joy!!
I’ve recently discovered you blog & LOVE it!!! Can’t wait to buy your cookbook! Awesome job! Keep on baking! :-D
Debbie Miller
Have been making these for my family for a couple of months now, we absolutely LOVE them. I use a premium dark chocolate with large chunks and they are amazing. Love the website…….better go the timer is letting me know that they are ready to take out of the oven. I’m packing them for the plane ride to Florida for the family;)
beth
wow. i found your site three days ago and this is the second thing i’ve made off of it. first i made the whole wheat molasses bread for chili night here. loved it! and love it even more now toasted in the morning with butter and eggs.
i have been spending all of my time reading your posts- i love the recipes and i love your enthusiasm. as someone who loves to cook and who just turned 30 myself, yours is a voice i’m loving.
and let me just say- these scones (or at least my recreation of them given what i had on hand) were outrageously good! i am out of citrus, so used half chocolate chips and half cranberries. i also ended up adding a bit more buttermilk since mine were too dry (it is cold here in PA!) and they turned out perfect. the best scone texture and taste i’ve ever made! my husband raved this morning for breakfast. and he is a savory person by nature. ive never heard him enjoy my baking as much.
thank you joy!
Tara
Just made these for breakfast. They were great and the texture was perfect. Thanks!
Allison
I loved this! It reminds me of those orange Milano cookies.
Sana
They were the bees knees, after i made these i felt like a pro. Even though they were a tad burnt, because of my suckish oven they tasted AWESOME. I love those terry orange chocolate slices. My granpa loved em! I felt so awesome. Pure bliss, thanks loads :)
Jen K.
This is a really versatile recipe! I’ve made it twice; and then, inspired by other posts on this page, tried a lemon-blueberry variation (replace the orange zest with lemon zest, add 1T of lemon juice, and use 2/3 cup blueberries instead of chocolate chips). SUPER delicious any way you make them!
Megan V
Actually Joy you are not a weirdo at all. Those chocolate balls of orangy-goodness are my FAVORITE Christmas candy. They are absolutely the best and I CAN’T WAIT to try this recipe!
Sarah
I also just found your wonderful blog and am in love! I can’t wait to make these, and am thinking of making them tonight to have for breakfast tomorrow. Thatnks for the recipe! :)
mary green
Hi! My first time visiting Joy’s website….Love it! I’m making these with plain low-fat yogurt. I didn’t have buttermilk, so we will see! They look delicious so far and smell wonderful in the oven! Thanks!
Jessica
I recently found your blog….love at first site!!! I woke up early this morning and made this recipe for my daughter…put a smile on both of our faces! Thank you for baking and sharing. xoxo
joythebaker
i love this!
Sherry
These scones were super easy and super amazing! Loved them! I cut the dough into 4 scones, but once baked thought I’d be a little piggy if I really ate a whole one for breakfast (and I could have too!).So I cut those in half and they were soooo delicious with my morning Starbucks. Try to eat just one, I dare you, try, they are so good, love the dark chocolate and orange…
A note, my dough seemed crumbly too, but I kept pulling back the crumbly bits as I was kneading, and 5-8 kneads in the dough finally stuck together from my hands warming and melting the butter.
Megan
Oh my goodness, I have just found your blog and I think I love it. Also, those weird “giant chocolate oranges” are Terry’s chocolate oranges and they’re a Christmas institution this side of the pond. I deeply, deeply love them.
Julia
These were the bomb. That’s all I have to say.
Jane
I made these first “as is” and loved them. When I didn’t have cream of tartar for the cheddar biscuit recipe, I changed this recipe from sweet to savory by decreasing the sugar to 1 tablespoon, cutting out the chocolate and orange, and adding 3/4 cup (I think? A generous handful of?) grated cheddar cheese to the flour mixture. A few red pepper flakes made them even more awesome, and I had a mean bacon-and-egg sandwich at the end.
Ryan
I’ve given scones a go three times in the past year or so with no luck. Each time they have turned out very doughy, almost raw in the center (even after increasing the cooking time nearly two fold). After the first batch I thought I may be kneading too much. I was very careful while kneading my second attempt. Still undercooked in the center. For the third try I decreased the amount of liquid, kneaded even less and cut them into smaller “sconelettes.” No good. This recipe has amped my enthusiasm and revived my willingness to try again… fingers crossed!
joythebaker
these might be just the trick for you! let me know how it goes!
Hilary
Oooh….love this! Now I need an excuse to make some scones. :)
Carlen
Made this recipe twice for my classmates- we loved them! I had a little difficulty kneading the crumbly dough… I wonder if it’s because I doubled the recipe or it needed more buttermilk? I would love any suggestions!! Also, I was wondering who you cook for? I love to feed my classmates :) Thank you for the wonderful recipes!
Felicity @ Our Little Beehive.com
These look absolutely amazing!
Congratulations on your Homie nomination. We’re nominated in the Home Design category and I’m loving all these new blogs I’m discovering.
Lesley
Joy! I honestly feel like we’re old friends because I’ve been reading your blog for a long time and I love your voice.. and your recipes and photos are lovely. My fav food blog without question. Anyhow! I made these (dark chocolate & orange is the best flavor combo ever) and they were so very delicious. Mine didn’t rise quite as high as yours though. Could I have overworked the dough? They were still super tender though, that’s why I wasn’t sure. It didn’t even matter.. they were so good I may have eaten almost all of them by myself. Oops. :| Also made the Single Lady pancake for dinner tonight & it was o m g amaazing! The toasted pecans ~made it! It was so much fun to actually make myself, and only myself, dinner from scratch. I never do that. It made my day.
Miss Melis
Okay, so EVERY single year I give my hubby one of those dark chocolate oranges, it’s a tradition. I see no reason why these amazing scones, soon to be baking in my oven, should not be a tradition as well. Say, on Tuesdays. Anyway, I was thinking they might also be awesome accompanied by the tangerine/lemon curd – will definitely be giving that pair a try.
sparkles2307
I made these scones over the weekend. I did a double batch, put chocolate in one half and dried cranberries in the other half. My husband wont eat sweet things (with the exception of his mother’s brownies) and he ate about 4 of them! The kids loved them! And they’re so quick and easy to whip up! I’m craving another batch already!
Noelle @Vegan Opera Singer in Kitchen
I veganized these today and posted about them, or will be in the next 10 minutes! Thanks for such a nice recipe!
Brian @ A Thought For Food
Swoon! I’m such a scone lover and have been making them for years… but have tried to stay away from chocolate ones out of fear that I will be come addicted and will start to pack on the pounds.
But these… well, these may just ruin that streak.
Rose
joy these are awesome! i just made them and they’re great and im not surprised, of course.
all of your pictures are always so beautiful- i know you use a 100mm, but i was wondering- any other tips? maybe you could do a mini post on tips / how you always make your baking looks so beautiful?
thanks!!!
Manu @ Chez Manu - Italian Home Cooking
They look amazing! Will surely try them! Thanks for posting!

Orange and dark chocolate are always a perfect match for my taste… The first time I had tried this recipe I was contented and I fall in love with orange and dark chocolate more and more. It is really more delightful to eat if you personally made it.
Eliz
Scones!
I have been needing something lately. I haven’t been able to put my finger on it and it has been killing me. I knew it was something substantial, to fortify my being against the massive amount of snowfall my town is seeing right now. I knew it is something I love to make because of all the kneading and rolling it calls for. I knew it was something I used to bake during my pastry internship last summer.
And voila! Scones! You read my heart Joy! I made a orange zest currant scone, and along with the banana bread and the pancakes, Scones were my thing. I made all of the batches the restaurant would need for the week and I knew I would never love anything as much as the orange zest currant scones. Now during these harsh winter days, what better than to substitute out of season currants with dark chocolate! Yum! I cannot wait to make and devour these!
Thank you!
Sarah
Today is my birthday, so I got up early and made these scones as a special treat for myself. My three-year-old was thrilled to wake up to a breakfast involving chocolate (that’s my girl). They were brilliant…perfect with a cup of coffee!
Gill
These look amazing!! You know what else is delicious? Hot chocolate with a splash of orange juice. Tastes just like a Terry’s chocolate orange. It also makes a great segue into my next favourite ho-cho combo: hot chocolate and southern comfort (I call it a soco hocho). It’ll amaze your socks off.
Kristina

so freaky you posted this, i was just thinking about scones.

I used dark chocolate/mint chips. The mint was a subtle and nice touch. The scone base is great for any added ingredients. Thanks! Joy!
Caitlin
I used to get one of those chocolate oranges in the “toe” of my Christmas stocking, too! So good. These scones look amazing. I’ll take any excuse to eat chocolate for breakfast!
Megan (megabite)
I have to make these tonight because they are all I’m hungry for in life. True story. So keep an eye out for me to post pictures of these hotties!

They look and sound amazingly delish. Choc and Orange is such a great combo! mmm

Don’t tell anyone if I make these for breakfast! They look completely delicious, and well, they have oranges and buttermilk so they are healthy, right?

I made these and swapped out the orange and chocolate for gruyere and bacon. Holy geez. Amazing. I think this is my favorite scone recipe ever. The buttermilk takes it to another dimension.

Like little pillows of chocolate sunshine. Delish. And I love the use of Christmas leftovers – I am still working my way through mine.
Thanks so much for the recipe!

I never comment on the blogs of those people I don’t know–NEVER!!
But I need to here. Really, I do.
I’m a scone snob. It’s embarrassing, yet true.
These are–w/o a doubt–a super fantastic, out-of-this-world, amazingly tender and delicious scone.
I am in love.
I could eat them all. by myself. in one sitting.
Thank you (o:

I, too, put them in my kids’ stockings, although my oldest “kid” is 30!

I just made these- literally, just put them in the oven and they look divine! I am a sucker for the chocolate and orange combination. 15 minutes couldn’t come any slower!! Thanks for this amazing recipe!
STAR
These were easy to put together and absolutely amazing! YUM
Thank you
Leah the Nosher
Pure Heaven. I wonder what would have happened if you’d used orange chocolate. Would that just have been overkill on the sweet? Was the bitterness of the dark chocolate needed? What about using chili chocolate and cinnamon with the orange zest, served with lots of good butter? Mexican Hot Chocolate Scones?
Jon
I need to stay away from your site. See, my fiancée and me decided to go on a diet BUT then she brings home donuts… So there goes one day and now I need to go make some scones, great. These look great.
Margie
Yum-City!

I made the dough last night then wrapped it-cookie pan and all-in plastic wrap and stuck in the refrigerator overnight. This morning we enjoyed them with orange butter while dashing out the door in sixteen directions. Thanks for an easy, yummy workday breakfast!

I need to put this on my ‘to make’ list. I always get the chocolate oranges from my parents for Christmas, it’s like a tradition. I can’t wait to try this recipe.

I think that I am going to have to make these tomorrow afternoon. And I’m not even sure I have dark chocolate. Ohh yum!
Cassie
Okay–you had me at orange and chocolate. I LOVE those chocolate oranges, so you’re not the only weird one. Is it weird that I could probably eat a whole one in one sitting? Lol. Those were days of yore…Love this recipe idea and will have to try it out sometime.
P.S. Did you ever try the orange mocha frappacino that Starbucks did? It was probably 8-10 years ago and I still remember them fondly. ;)

Holy moly…these sound so amazing!

Joy, my mama has always put those chocolate oranges in my sister’s and my Christmas stockings, even now that we’re all grown and in our 20s and 30s. It’s fun to know that it’s part of your tradition, too! Since they’re one of her favorite candies, I’ll have to fix up a batch of these scones for her next time I’m home for a visit.

I hope you enjoyed these. My hubby saw them and gave a thumbs up. I used to love those darn orange chocolate balls….(did I just say balls) sorry. Orange and chocolate are aweseome!!! (Yes, I have a young child and watch Yo Gabba Gabba)…I am lame!

Thanks so much for sharing – i was needing a goos scone recipe, mine always come out hard. This was PERFECT! Light and buttery, I chopped up bittersweet chocolate cubes for the chocolate and substituted yogurt and a dash of vinegar for the buttle milk and they came out fabulous! My family wants me to ship them home! Thank you!

How easy it is to count to five with you! I would have liked to learn to count this way, and kids would find it really yummy as well! Gorgeous way to have breakfast, a little bit of jam, of butter and a big scone to enjoy glory! uummmm.

This was my first time making scones and I have to say I am in Heaven. They are like little clouds of yum melting in my mouth! I followed the basic recipe exactly, but uses King Arthur’s Flour cinnamon chips instead, and because I have a terrible sweet tooth, had to add a orange juice glaze over the top. OMG! Thank you so much for the recipe, I love scones!

I love different flavor combinations like this. In the same way that apple and cheddar are SO good together, dark chocolate and orange is a delicious snack, too! What a wonderful idea to use them in your baking. Thanks for sharing this recipe and continually inspiring me, Joy. Have a great day.

These sound delish. You should make a butter glaze to top them!

Orange and chocolate are an amazing combination. The best ice cream I’ve ever had was chocolate orange ice cream from this cute little place in Old Town Alexandria, VA. It’s life changing. And I had decided the other day that I’m going to try making orange chocolate pudding this week! Orange and chocolate are in the air…

Mmmm, this sounds delightful. I remember I tried a scones recipe a few months ago, and failed so miserably that I had to throw out the baking sheet I used (At least it was old and worn. A good excuse to get a new one!). Maybe I’ll try this one, if I can not screw up so badly as I did before.

Scones are one of my very favorite things to bake! This orange and chocolate combo sounds like a winner. Well, ’cause I love those chocolate oranges, too. =)
jenna laughs
Joy, I love this!! I adore scones, especially with chocolate. I bet these taste wonderful – just added them to my “have to try” list!
Lisa@ Dishes of Mrs. Fish
I just made cranberry orange scones.
Now it looks like I’m making these! They look wonderful!
Melinda
OH W.O.W!! I used to LOVE chocolate oranges….can’t eat them anymore (gluten free now)…..I’m going to have to try to adapt this to be a GF recipe…mmmmmmmm.
Tammi Marie
YES, I love those big chocolate oranges. Are they only around at Christmas-time? I bought an extra one in December for a cupcake I want to do. I then realized that Lindt has a dark chocolate orange bar year round, so I bought that too! :) These scones look good.
sweet road
These look fantastic! Chocolate and orange is a no fail combo, especially when warm out of the oven!
Lina
My mom thinks that all scones are too dry and tasteless. I shall prove her wrong with these. It’s not like they’re too bad for you; I could use some white whole wheat flour and such. Do you think I could use soured milk or Greek yogurt instead of the buttermilk? I simply don’t have any on hand.
Liz @ Tip Top Shape
Brilliant!!! If I did not already love your blog (which I do) this would definitely do the trick!!
mary
my jaw just hit the floor when i saw this post.
i felt my stomach pooch out a little more just from looking at the photo.
i have to try these.

Jennifer3
Looks great! I think I am going to go make some for breakfast. Your recipe is missing the instructions for adding the chocolate chips, though :) just in case you wanted to put that in!
Megan
Oh hell yes. These look awesome.
Happy When Not Hungry
What a great flavor combination! These look and sound amazing. Thanks for sharing!
homegrown countrygirl
Totally awesome, Joy… thank you for sharing this recipe!
Lyd
I LOVE LOVE LOVE chocolate oranges! The only problem is when we bake with them in my house we tend to buy two – one for baking, one for eating… And then we’re usually too full to eat the things we’ve baked – So it’s GREAT that these recipe doesn’t actually call for a Chocolate Orange. Yum.
The Experimental Cook
You have very awesome photos which are very inspiring…
For the scones, can I use milk instead of butter milk ?
joythebaker
it’s best to use buttermilk. here’s how to make it in a pinch. https://www.joythebaker.com/blog/2009/10/the-best-buttermilk-substitutions/
Samantha Angela @ Bikini Birthday
Wow, these look amazing!
Maria Trader
Perfect! In the last few weeks I’ve gone through crates of clementines and adding bits of dark chocolate to a few segments has been my fave. I’ll be making this soon, thanks!
Heather (Heather's Dish)
these scones are making me weak in the knees…beautifully done and the flavor combination sounds out of this world!
Tiffany @ Conor & Bella
Mmm, these sound fantastic!!
Jean
Chocolate and orange — a match made in heaven! Raspberry is another heaven sent combination. Love the chocolate/orange slice candy as well and the scones look wonderful!
Lauren at KeepItSweet
My sister used to love those scones. Great idea!
Toocutedobs
OMG! I am so totally following you and your blog. Ok, stalking is really what I have in mind and I am not ashamed to admit it. The blog is beautiful, the food looks divine, and your sense of humor did me in. Oh God! And we were going to be “good” with our eating this week. Blahh!
Estela @ Weekly Bite
Scones are my favorite!! These look perfect :)
Jessica @ How Sweet It Is
I love the orange chocolate combo. Last week I dipped clementines in chocolate. So delicious!
Barbara Stanwik
I’m gonna make it this week end for my coffee meeting with the neighbours. But, just one question… How you manage to measure the cold butter in tablespoons?
One of your fans from Spain,
Love
joythebaker
our butter here in the states comes in paper with marked lines. 6 tablespoons is also 3 ounces of butter. hope that helps!
Barbara Stanwik
Sure! Thanks, Joy.
In Spain, there are also marked lines in the pack that indicate grams… I’ll make the conversion! Scones are one of my thousand of pending recipes, but, once reading the recipe from you, it seems easier than never!
Greetings!
Jennie @ Oh, Sweet Day!
I thought I was one of the few that loved orange and chocolate together! These scones are calling my name! *saving*
Lucy
oh man, this is TOO GOOD. I can see myself getting addicted this week…
Silvia
As soon as my stomach is allright again I will surely try them… how I miss baking!
Petit Filoux
Oh my, that looks so good it must be bad!! Love traditional scones, but these look scrumptious…! There is just too much good food out there to eat and not enough time to go to the gym!
Katrina
I love the dark chocolate addition. I’m hungry.
Katie
They look delicious. I love choc chips in scones, so melty and tasty. Love the rustic squares, much more interesting than circles. Look so light and fluffy
annie
Can I tell you how much I LOVE chocolate & orange together? I adore those chocolate oranges (Santa was kind enough to leave one in each stocking this year), and even our wedding cake was orange butter cake with chocolate ganache filling…mmmm. Our anniversary is coming right up, and I think these would me more than perfect for breakfast. :) Thank you for what looks like a great recipe!
Marie Baars
Hmm.. I am considering buying a chocolate orange and chopping it up to replace the dark chocolate chips. yummo
Miranda
I just made them. They’re delicious. ‘Nuff said. :)
Sanjeeta kk
Love those tiny chocolates peeing out from the scones. Like the square shaped scones.
Libby
Pardon me while I DROOL onto my keyboard. Chocolate oranges are my favorite christmas stocking stuffers…I buy them for my dad every year just so I can eat 2/3 of it myself. I also am obsessed with afternoon tea and all things scone-y. So you have officially created my dream come true.
Rachell
I’ve never liked those chocolate orange things…. I tried one once and it wasn’t for me, but I wouldn’t mind making these to give it a second chance.
A Tablespoon of Liz
These look so good! What an amazing breakfast!
Jessica @ bake me away!
Okay, I don’t like those chocolate oranges, but would be totally up for these. Mmmm. I love freezing raw scones and baking them individually. Otherwise, death by scones.
Lina
do you bake them frozen or thawed? and what temperature?
BakerMan
I fear this would happen! I am not at home and cannot make these this instant! Maybe I’ll give the recipe to the chef.
Laura @ SweetSavoryPlanet
I have never had one of those chocolate oranges. I feel like I need to fix that somehow. Chocolate and orange is a fabulous combo and these scones look awesome.
Katie @ The Well-Fed Newlyweds
Those pictures make me want to reach out and grab a scone right through my computer screen! Guess I’ll just have to make them tomorrow instead – yum!
dragon fruit
omg orange + dark chocolate together is one of my favorite combinations. i love this. thank you!
Half Assed Kitchen
Mmmm. Why just the yolk and not the egg whites?
Allie (Live Laugh Eat)
I could count to 5 all day long with these scones! Love the plate + placemats
Kocinera
One word: YUM! I’ve never liked chocolate oranges, but in scone form, they look completely irresistible.
Ashlae
Ooh, Joy! You melt my heart. I have been wanting to make scones for months (MONTHS!) but never got around to it. I think I just might need to surprise the beau with these when he wakes up tomorrow morning.. he doesn’t have to know they’re actually for me.
Emily
How is it possible that every time you post something, I want to make it? Those are pretty good odds…you have a magical power.
Yolanda
I am so weak for scones. And for ones with chocolate and orange zest? I’m a goner. Out of curiosity, what do you do with those yummy scraps that you cut off to make the scones square? Do you bake them off and nibble on them as sweet little chefs treat? Or do you eat the raw dough (as I probably would)? Just please say you don’t throw them away.
Abby
obviously this will be thing number 9 from j the b i bake tomorrow. obsessed much? PSHH no. shut yer face.
MrsDragon
You read my mind what with this chocolate + orange combination. I recently stumbled across a cookie recipe that used a single Clementine….but you can’t BUY a single Clementine and so I thought it was a lost cause. And then you post this! ♥
Laurie @SimplyScratch
Oh my word. YUM! These sound DEEEElicious!
Amanda (Eating Up)
Scones and chocolate go together like pb & j, no? Indgredimates.
