Cold season? Nope. Not going to do it. Flu season? Get right outta here with all that. Sniffles? Congestion? The general drags? Nobody has time for all that.
To keep the sickness bugs at bay as the days frost over and chill, I’m shoving every whole and healthy bit of produce I have into my juicer. This version is heavy on the big, bright citrus of Winter, and spiked with spicy fresh ginger.
There’s no way a cold is getting me down. #knockonwood
A good while ago, on a juicing kick, I talked a lot about juicing here: On Juicing. Since them, I’ve eaten a lot of french fries and chocolate chip cookies.
To make juice… you’re going to need a juicer. That’s just the deal. Two great juicers include the Hurom Slow Juicer and this KitchenAid Juicer Attachment that attaches directly to a stand mixer!
It’s got to be good to drink something this naturally brightly colored, right? I mean… vitamin C, vitamin A, folate and a million other awesome things! It’s a big bright glass full of health. It’s good news for our insides and outsides. Happy almost Winter!
PrintWinter Citrus Booster with ginger and sweet potato
- Prep Time: 0 hours
- Cook Time: 0 hours
- Total Time: 0 hours
Ingredients
- 5 carrots, chopped into bite-size pieces
- 1 large sweet potato, unpeeled and chopped into bite-size pieces
- 1 tangerine, peeled and segmented
- 2–3 inches ginger, unpeeled and chopped
- 1 navel orange, peeled and sliced into bite-size pieces
- 1 grapefruit, peeled and sliced into bite-size pieces
Instructions
- Because we’re working with hard root vegetables and juicy citrus, we’re going to need a pressing juicer. I’m afraid a blender won’t give you the same affect.
- Run all of the ingredients through a juicer. Enjoy immediately over ice.
Nutrition
- Serving Size: 2 large servings of juice

Joy, the first picture mislead me. I thought we were making winter citrus stew (by “we” I mean “you”, obvi). Can that be a thing? I that should be a thing. Would it be a good thing?
Mona
OK. If I don’t have a juicer, could I make this into some sort of soup or would it be grainy?

Hmm, I’ll have to try this. I love sweet potato and carrots in juices, but I tend to dislike ginger… I’m trying to get used to it!

In line with your festive orangeyness, add some turmeric and enjoy it’s anti inflammatory powers!

Oh, I want to make this right now! There’s nothing worse than getting sick. I do wonder about the sweet potatoes, though– is it safe to eat them raw?

Sniffles, run and hide! Also, I want to paint a room in my house “winter citrus booster orange”. It’s so cheery and reminds me of a sunrise.
Lisa
Lovely! I don’t bother peeling carrots and sweet potatoes – I just wash them and chop them small enough to fit into the juicer and off we go! Oranges etc. are peeled and chucked in whole. MUCH faster and tastes the same!
Nutty Nutritionist
ahh, I never knew that you could get a kitchen aid attachment for juicing! That’s cool! Also, this looks amazing, I love the vibrant orange color!
