Let It Be Tuesday!

Let It Be Tuesday!

This list of weekend reads was supposed to come your way on Sunday. ย That didn’t happen and I have a slight sunburn on my shoulders… such are the hazards (and joys) of summer living. ย I played hooky. ย We’re all allowed every once in a while, right?

This week I took a solo roadtrip to Ponce De Leon, Florida where they have the most temperate, mossy, magical fresh water spring. ย Brisk. ย Very brisk. ย Fresh. ย Very fresh. ย  It was a sweet summer trip, especiallyย I’ve got some summer bucket listing to live this fine month of August.

I hope you are living well. ย Let’s not take ourselves too seriously until after Labor Day, ok?

Here are some ready for the week: ย

โ€ข ย An incredible long read: ย A Terrifying Journey Through The World’s Most Dangerous Jungle.ย  Imagine if this is what it took for you to find a safe and fulfilling life.

โ€ข ย Forgiveness. Compassion. Understanding. ย The Ballad ofย Rocky Rontal.ย

โ€ข ย Do Your Friends Really Like You? ย I mean… probably no. ย Ok? ย I know. ย I already know. ย Important: “Friends are people you take the time to understand and allow to understand you”.

โ€ข ย Longtime Cookbook Collaborator Makes Her Solo Debut.ย Julia Turshen is one of the most thoughtful recipe writers and I’m very excited for her book Small Victories. ย

โ€ข ย Flying withย shriekingย children? ย Give your neighbors a goody bag.ย I see parents on planes and they’re always on high alert, ready to hush the slightest sound and soothe any sorts of ants in the pants with an iPad. ย It seems like hard hard work. ย Maybe the childless passengers should hand out goody bags to the parents. ย I mean… a screaming baby is just expressing exactly how we all feel on an airplane. ย Who can blame them?

โ€ข ย How To Make Bakery Bread At Home. ย It takes some doing but it’s worth the effort and adds a whole new appreciation for very well made bread.

โ€ข ย New Orleans loves a monument. ย Pokemon Go monument.

โ€ข ย We’re looking chic and effortless and summery. ย I think this is sweet:ย LOFT Dot Flounce Dress.

โ€ข ย Come on down this rabbit hole with me. ย We’re learning to dance on YouTube withย Fitness Marshall, ok? ย We’re gonna look spazzy and that’s half the fun.

โ€ข ย Adrianna from A Cozy Kitchen made a coloring book for us! ย A Cozy Coloring Book. ย Also… she made the most gorgeous Italian Pistachio Cake with Roasted Plum Frosting.

โ€ข ย I’m part of a London Instagram Weekend Workshop with Belleannee and friends this September 16-18th! ย There are only a few spots open so if you’re interested hop on it!

That’s all for today. ย Carry on with it.

xo Joy

  1. YASS! Give goody bags to parents. I’ve been there and it IS EXHAUSTING. Thanks for noticing our struggles to keep our small screaming children from disrupting an otherwise horrible experience :)

  2. I definitely agree about that whole babies on planes thing. I am a childless lady myself, but whenever a parent apologizes for their crying baby I try to emphatically reassure them that it’s totally okay. That’s what ear plugs and headphones are for…

…also, if I were a baby and my ears were popping and the pressure in my head was building and I didn’t know what was happening, I’d be crying, too.

(I might have moments where I want to cry on planes as an adult…)

  3. Joy- Did you see any alligators? Where there is water there is usually an alligator (I used to live in FL). The water looks so clear– so makes for an easy getaway :) Thanks as always for the inspo.

  4. I wondered where you were on Sunday – I always look forward to your posts. But you’re forgiven. Being a “yeast-killer” I no longer try to bake bread. And I’ve found wonderful artisan loaves at Sprouts for less than $3. So why bother?

  5. I am echoing the sentiments of other Londoners here (hi guys!) by expressing both my delight to have one of my favourite bloggers (and one of the first blogs I ever followed, nearly six years ago now) in my city, and sadness that I am too short on the cash money to attend your cool looking workshop. I am secretly hoping to serendipitously run into you on the tube/coffee shop/pub or some such so I will keep my fingers crossed!

  6. Did you make your own pancakes at the Sugar Mill at Ponce De Leon?? Growing up, my dad used to take me there on special occasions and we’d kayak, wade in the springs, and make pancakes at the table :) :) :)

  7. Great to see “Let it be Sunday” show up (for all the right reasons!) on Tuesday! Your posts are always entertaining and thought provoking. Thank you.

  8. That NYT article on airplane goody bags makes my blood boil. Seriously. I am past the shrieking baby/toddler stage with my kids, but during those years we were expats and did a ton of airplane travel and people were sometimes awesome and sometimes incredibly awful. I get it. Screaming kids are annoying. But parents are (most of the time) doing their best, and there are plenty of other really annoying humans on airplanes. Should they start handing out goody bags too? Compassion, people. It goes a long way.

    1. I agree – I’m still in the baby/toddler phase with mine, and I already feel scrutinized and dreaded enough. It’s enough that people look at kids on planes with unguarded disdain, but to think that these same people also expect goody bags from me? No. I will do everything in my power to keep them quiet for your sake and mine, but I don’t owe you a specially curated apology bag for traveling with my family. I was on the other side once too and I might have even agreed with this article at one point, but it’s so incredibly out of touch. You know what also goes toward facilitating goodwill? Treating kids and their parents like welcome fellow passengers when you see them, not something that needs to be apologized for. Also, realistically, it would probably help the kids actually be quieter if you brought a bag of diversions for them, not the other way around.

    2. That article must have been written by one of those entitled milleniels we keep hearing about. I am flying this week with a newborn and a three year old. I plan on packing books, toys, and a lot of snacks. Guess what I won’t be bringing?

  9. Thanks for the Fitness Marshall link. It was all Tuesday all the time here, until I smiled, laughed and kitchen danced my way through one of the videos. Now, I’m feeling all I bring it on Tuesday, I’m ready!

  10. I love your reading links. Though I see we read a lot of the same stuff (NYT, anyone?). You still dig up things I didn’t know about, like that amazing jungle story.
That dress is adorable. I love Loft and their Julie/Marissa sizing. I saw so many women in dresses at the Carcassonne market on Saturday. It would have been easier to count the ones not in summery, loose dresses. Mostly florals, some graphics, a few solids. When it’s hot, dresses are the best thing to wear.
