Sunday Leftovers

Let It Be Sunday, 349!

Friends hello – I hope it was a Happy Thanksgiving and a relaxing long weekend.

My parents and I are in Houston celebrating the weekend with Will and his parents.  There’s coffee and football (and I honestly still couldn’t tell you what 3rd and 14 is) we’ve got a 1000 piece puzzle on the table and someone cheers each time we connect a single piece.  We’ve all decided that 500 pieces puzzles are our max these days.  My bad for bringing this 1000 pieces nightmare.

I made a French Silk Pie and Dad and I made a Sweet Potato Pie together virtually for a Bakehouse class.  It was SO GREAT that I’m going to have to find a way to have Dad teach more classes with me.  It was a family affair. Mom, Will, and his parents were sitting in the background watching the whole show.

It’s been a really lovely holiday – those ones you really just sit around and enjoy together.  I value the time so much.  My favorite has been the Saturday family bike ride in which we carted all of the Jorgensen’s old bikes out of the garage and took theme for a spin.

I hope your holiday has been memorable and warm.  I hope you’ve made your way through the leftovers.  I’m hoping for a Turkey Pot Pie and a batch of Cranberry Cornmeal Scones.

More for you next week, friends!

Enjoy your Sunday!

My love to you!

xo Joy

  1. Happy belated Thanksgiving! I’m so glad you got to spend time with them. You all are so lovely. And I feel you on 1000 piece puzzles in a short time! One of my contributions to the family meal was your mulled wine fruit bars -big success!

  2. Made the pumpkin trifle dessert from your magazine (except I made pound cake instead of buying the frozen ones) and it was a RAVE!!!!!!! Really wonderful recipe, thank you!!

  3. Brought the no knead bread from your holiday magazine to Thanksgiving dinner. Grits but no flax seed, and snuck some flour odds and ends (spelt, white whole wheat) as part of the total flour weight and it turned out great!

  4. I’ve been working on a 2000 piece jigsaw of Starry Night by Van Gogh since May 2020. I think I’m about halfway through. It’s supposed to get easier as I go since there are fewer pieces to deal with. At least that’s what I tell myself!!

I’m glad that you got to hang out with your parents this weekend. How sweet that must have been!

  5. Hi Joy! I loved both the pix you included. So sweet. I’m glad you all were together but we missed you here in L. A. ? Looking forward to Christmas with the fam. ????

  6. There’s going to be a gluten free turkey pot pie in our future as well. I was clever enough to have leftover gf pie dough in my refrigerator. But not clever enough to do a 1000 piece puzzle! Enjoy your family, especially parents. Time passes quickly, it seems. And thank you for all you do to help us along in our sometimes ordinary lives.

  7. I’m with ya on the puzzle thing. We bought a thousand “piecer” that was a couple of bears in the woods. Bear fur and tree bark look very similar in pieces. Carted that off to the thrift store.

  8. Hi Joy, I’ve been a reader of your Sunday posts for awhile, and I love them, find the recipes and stories so wonderful. I’m thankful for the best warm- feelings wake ups, and you! Glad you got to be with family, too!
    Best,
    Alisa

  9. Love the first photo of your parents and so glad you’ve had such a lovely holiday with Will and both your parents. Hope you continue to enjoy the rest of your Thanksgiving weekend Joy!

  10. How heartwarming! So glad you, Will and your families had a lovely time together. Using leftover cranberry sauce to make scones is brilliant!

  11. I’m so glad that you guys had such a wonderful holiday! It’s been so hard being away from those we love. I’m really happy for you. Thanks for all the Sundays and great recipes.

  12. What a fun time together! My family is with you – 500 piece puzzles, that’s the limit. We want to enjoy putting it together…then move on to another!!!

  13. Thank you, Joy! I took your gingerbread swirl cake to Thanksgiving and it got rave reviews. Now to find a fun way to use up the leftover cranberry sauce!

    1. Happy Thanksgiving Joy! I appreciate your affirmation of a decision I’ve made for myself in life, that 1000 pieces is just too dang much. I always enjoy your Sunday words. Much love from OKC <3
