I’ve Got To Fan Myself Off

Let It Be Sunday, 384!

Hello! I hope this post doesnโ€™t find you. I hope youโ€™re on a boat, at a backyard barbecue, curled up on the couch with a good book, or in Houston buying horse art for the apartment youโ€™re decorating to be closer to your boyfriend. Hi, Joy! Wherever you are this holiday weekend, I hope these links find you when youโ€™re back at work, looking for a distraction before you tackle your inbox.

โ€ข Letโ€™s get right to it. And by โ€œitโ€ I mean โ€˜Renaissanceโ€™. Iโ€™m listening to it probably once or twice a day, which is not enough according to TikTok standards. My favorite song changes depending on my mood, but right now itโ€™s โ€œHeated.โ€ Here is a track-by-track deep-dive by culture writer and critic, Shamira Ibrahim. (Andscape)

โ€ข Speaking of โ€œHeated,โ€ R. Eric Thomas has us covered. This is the most accurate description of my feelings while listening to this song that Iโ€™ve read thus far, and believe me, Iโ€™ve read it all. (PreviouslyOn)

โ€ข I went through something like this with my own closet last year and Iโ€™m glad someone wrote about it. Shout-out to anyone who understands how in the world weโ€™re supposed to be dressing right now. If youโ€™re as lost as I am, this piece in The Cut by Kara Brown may help.ย

โ€ข Abby, who edits this here blog, contributed to a piece for Saveur about the best cookware brands. If you loved what Abby had to say about Jeniโ€™s ice cream, youโ€™re going to love her take on things to consider before investing in cookware. (Joy the Baker)

โ€ข โ€œFor many of us, the ambition to rise through the ranks in our chosen field has dissolved into something simpler: the desire to not feel so stressed and exhausted all the time,โ€ Ann Friedman in Elle this month. I didnโ€™t realize how many of my friends have left their jobs, changed their jobs, or scaled back their hours until I read this article on ambition. *eyes wide open emoji* (Elle)

โ€ข Iโ€™m a big Mindy Kaling fan and was thrilled to see this feature on her in Marie Claire. I donโ€™t think I knew she had two kids now! This is a long-ish read, but itโ€™s worth it.

โ€ข If you live anywhere near Nashville, I hope to see you at our huge yearly Southern Festival of Books. This is the festivalโ€™s 34th year and itโ€™s first time IRL since 2019. To say Nashville is excited is an understatement. The dates are October 14-16 and you can see the full list of around 200 (!!) visiting authors here. (Sofestofbooks.org)ย

โ€ข Speaking of books, Iโ€™m a big proponent of walking in the woods while listening to a romance audiobook. This is the one Iโ€™m listening and hiking to right now. Weโ€™re talking strong female friendships and enemies-to-lovers. Itโ€™s great! (Libro.fm)

โ€ข I was a guest on the I Like To Read podcast and kind of forgot to tell anyone. Oops! Iโ€™m a chronic over-sharer, so if you want the behind-the-scenes on my podcast journey with Ladyland, thereโ€™s a lot here for you. Listen here or watch here. (Apple Podcasts, YouTube)

โ€ข An argument for choreography. (TikTok)

  1. Hi Joy,
If I had a boat by Lyle Lovett would be a nice song to go with your horse art! Glad you are going to be closer to Will. Hope you will keep the Bakehouse!!!

  2. Welcome back to the entire team. Kim. once again fantastic articles. My Sunday morning ritual of tea, a muffin and JTB is now in full swing. And yes, love me some Mindy Kaling, sheโ€™s so smart, creative and funny. About the article regarding people leaving their jobs and reassessing whatโ€™s important to them personally, Iโ€™m reminded of the saying, โ€œHaving a purpose is the difference between making a living and making a life.โ€

  3. SO happy LIBS is back! You found me on my day off. I love Sunday mornings, coffee, my cat Sophie and reading. LIBS.
Hope yโ€™all had a lovely August!

  4. Your post found me in Santillana Del Mar, Spain on vacation. We are staying at the parador here. We spent a week In Madrid and are off to Hondarribia and France next. Nice to relax and hear from home. Hasta la proxima!
