Hello my friends! I hope you’re having the most lovely weekend! We’ve gotten the extra day we all need deep down in our hearts and I hope you’re celebrating today with a good sleep-in and a lazy day ahead.
I’ve had some plane travel in my recent past and lots more in my near future. This view is common to me. It carries a plethora of emotions with it: excitement, sadness, loneliness, togetherness, oh-crap-we’re-actually-flying-ness, where am I going again? Do I have my car keys / Did I lose my car keys? / Did I drive to the airport?. I love the travel. I relish the excitement and can carry the loneliness. Half the time I’m in an airplane seat, sunglasses on, crying about something or other because I almost ALWAYS cry on a plane. There’s a reason, aparently my parasympathetic nervous system is just veeery sympathetic. See: Why We Cry On Planes.
Those are just some truthy truths of mine. I feel like you get it.
Let’s enjoy this beautiful day of ours! Here’s some Internet reading for your lazy day pleasure:

• A weekend long read: Framed. Any story that starts “I have an enemy” is sure to be full of bizarre intrigue.

• Fish In Crazy Water This reminds me of the Arrested Development episode where Lindsay is cooking Hot Ham Water. “So watery, and yet there’s a smack of ham to it”.

• I have some travels coming up which means a lot of time on planes and trains. I’m thinking sweet embroidery will be my new handcraft. I’m studying stitches. Embroidery goes with crying, right? Such a good look.

Happy day to you.

She has embroidery for all the states. A fun way to practice a lot of different stitches! I’ve slowly been plugging away at WI:

My sister loves cake. and drake. your instagram is giving me all the bday drake cake ideas!! i’m so glad i have you!
Love your LITBS posts! I enjoy washing my cashmere by hand and I was told to use a dab of baby shampoo, which I do with great success.
Bring it, Fall!
I decided I wanted to learn how to embroider for the flight to and from Iceland this past March. Once I started, I realized that my mother had actually taught me when I was very young. It seemed as though I uncovered a skill learned in a past life! Embroidery is now one of my favorite things to do. In between making pie and writing (about pie). Have fun, Joy. This is a beautiful art form, and it fits nicely in a carry-on. ;)
I also spend lots of time with that view and love the travel. Safe journey!
They definitely allow needles on planes! You can even take your tiny embroidery scissors (source: I am not me without crafts and have flown many a flight with all sorts of crafty things!). To further the embroidery fun: Sarah K. Benning is AMAZING and her instagram is beautiful and she’s got a great pattern of the month thing going on on her etsy page. Let It Be Sunday is my Sunday morning coffee companion and I look forward to it all week. When i saw “Fish in Crazy Water” I just cracked up-made that recipe last week with fresh halibut (live in SE Alaska) and it was devine!, and must say that leftovers are really good as well!
Re: embroidery– do you know about Sublime Stitching? Her patterns are amazing (and kind of weird in a good way) and her videos are wonderful.
Lucky for us, crying goes with EVERYTHING! ;)
Crying on planes – yes, totally get it. I love travelling and I see flying as another part of the excitement, albeit a stressful one. But when I was in a long distance relationship, the flight back home always made me so emotional. One of those times, both the lady sitting next to me and I started crying when the plane took off. We looked at each other and laughed, and then I shared my almonds with her.
Enjoy your travels and the long weekend, Joy. I made ice cream sandwiches, just what this Sunday called for.
While it is nowhere near fall weather here in Austin, TX, I’m ready for fall food. Those roasted sweet onions sound amazing!
As a not so great flyer, I’ve taken up cross-stitch when I fly. Super meditative (breath in stich, breath out stitch). There are some super cute patterns out there these days (thanks, etsy!)
Also loving revisionist history. That accelerator pedal story blew my mind this week!
I always love “Let It Be Sunday” posts so much, all the great links that even a computer challenged oldie like me can navigate! I started reading “Framed” and had to stop to come back and say Thank-you for including this- I’m already hooked! I admire your strength for flying, I am a white knuckle baby at best and only fly if I must. It is too intrusive these days for me, all the inspections and such- while understandably necessary in the times we live. Thank-you for your wonderful blog and Happy Travels!
Every Sunday I’m reminded that you, Joy Wilson, are the most fascinating woman in the world! p.s. Thanks for turning me on to my new personal anthem!
To the answer of lipstick.it is under the weight.you can take it have a good day
Do they allow needles on planes? While we’re at it, is lipstick a solid, a liquid or a gel? Answer:it depends on the mood of the person inspecting your bag.
Ugh. Needles on planes…
