It’s a Mother’s Day Gift Guide!

May 9, 2017 by Joy the Baker 11 Comments

If there’s one thing I know for certain, it’s that Mother’s Day gifting is of the utmost importance. Mama made some serious sacrifices for us, and the very least we can do is get her a card (with heartfelt, handwritten words), and a gift (well wrapped with a bow).  Mama’s love cards and bows.  The key is to gift a thoughtful token… something that Mama wouldn’t necessarily buy for herself.  Here’s my compilation intended for our mother’s (queens among us), and our friends who are mothers (queens too, for sure).

Here’s to Mama:

1  •  Sweet gold Initial Bar Pendant Necklaces.  Simple and easy. A necklace mama could put on and never take off.

2  •  I am super smitten with this activity tracker and notifier jewelry!  Lightly like a Fitbit but fashionable. Ringly Aries Activity Tracker + notifications.  Technology meets lovely fashion- a great gift for a chic mom!  There’s a ring that tracks your activity too.

3  •  These are modern, kitchy, and classy:  Gipsy Pieced Earring Set, reason enough to have two holes in each ear.

4  •  These are quite cute and clever and colorful:  Ceramic Berry Baskets.

5  •  It’s not the first time I’ve talked about my latest book, Over Easy: sweet and savory recipes for leisurely days, but here’s what I’m thinking.  Start a brunch club with a Mom you love.  You make her brunch on Mother’s Day along with this book, and she makes you brunch sometime in return. Essentially this will be the gift that keeps on giving!

6  •  A petite, lovely linen apron from the Hedley & Bennett collection!

7  •  Beautiful beautiful beautiful pan.  It’s such a treat to cook in these Staub Cast Iron Braiser.  And a braiser is a set-it-and-forget-it kind of pan!  Win win.

8  •  My mom is a phenomenal gardener so I associate moms with gardening… for better or worse.  These brightly colored, durable, long gardening gloves are a luxury and a lovely gift.

9  •  I think mixing some more masculine pieces into wardrobe style can be super chic.  This Carhartt Tote Bag is neutral and durable and could be a great summer picnic tote, or a gardening bag for Mom!

10  •  Mother’s Day gifting is supposed to be a treat-  something that Mom wouldn’t necessarily buy for herself.  These darling stemless champagne glasses from Kate Spade fit the bill, especially when paired with and a subscription to the Fat Cork Champagne club. Wow wow wow.

11  •  A lady always needs fine linens. The Essential Scarf from Loomed is just right. A light beach towel, an airplane shoulder cover, a big scarf.  It’s a Stargazer!

•  These are my favorite candles and I love to give them as gifts!  They last forever, the class is beautiful, and the fragrances are deliberate and juuuust aggresssive enough in strength:  DW Home Cooling Eucalyptus Candles and White Rose.  Clean and flowery for mom-life!

Happy Mother’s Day to you and yours!

xo Joy

Hi Joy, just received my copy of your latest cookbook, Over Easy. Love it! I’m curious about the white pan used in the photos. Is it non-stick ceramic? Brand?

I always struggle with presents for my mom because she says “oh no I don’t need anything” but this is perfect. Something small but meaningful is just the trick. She likes to cook so I might get her that apron, haha!

My mom is also a phenomenal gardener! I wonder if it’s like, one of those things that comes automatically with motherhood? Because it definitely skipped a generation. I can barely keep my basil plant alive every summer.

Could you share some information about the loaf pan used in the Olive oil pound cake. And maybe a post about your favorite baking pans. Thanks.
