We’re Taking August Off

Friends, hello!

Welcome to the weird and wonderful month of August.  Some of you are sending your littles back to school this month and I still think that’s downright criminal.  School is supposed to start the Tuesday after Labor Day and I don’t know why the world changed so cruelly.

We’re talking a break this month! There won’t be any new posts up for the month of August.  We should all go outside and find the shadiest, breeziest spot to halfway fall asleep after a pizza picnic.  Find a strip of sunlight on the floor and see about laying in it, Tron style.

I haven’t taken a concerted time off of posting in the literal 14+ years of Joy the Baker so this feels both terrifying and liberating. Abby says it’s very European and chic. I’m inclined to believe her.

We’ll all be back at the top of September with plenty of new recipes and autumn inspiration for you.  Until then, if you need a birthday cake or my favorite lemon bars, there’s a casual 14 years of recipes for you to dig through.

Have a wonderful and slow month. We’ll see you on the other side!

xo Joy and the team

  1. I’m late to the game here, but ENJOY ENJOY ENJOY your time off! A Tron style nap in the sun is always a gamechanger.
My little is starting 4K this year, and I’m so in denial that he’s already this old!

  2. Enjoy your Summer break! The idea of relaxing days during late Summer in a park sounds like a perfect European getaway. Tron and most cats have the right idea of sun/shade relaxing. I’m taking the month to feel inspired to do craft projects, sip cocktails, and take after dinner strolls.

  3. Read some good books and enjoy slowing down. We’ll be here when you return.
I just started The Measure by Nikki Erlick and it’s very interesting.

  4. It is very European. I’ve worked for a global corporation for over a decade, and it’s one of the cultural norms I so desperately wish our American sites would adopt from them! Enjoy!

  5. Enjoy your time off and thanks for reminding us to stop and breathe.
The world is spinning so fast and life is so busy that we rarely take any time to relax.

  6. Hi Joy,
That’s a seriously great idea. I guess you could say life is really so many things to do, achieve, in such a small amount of time. You definitely deserve time to do as much, or as little as you want. Enjoy yourself, Will, Tron, the wind in your hair (or helmet hair, whichever you prefer but I think I know!), time away from all things work related. I will miss your posts but already can’t wait to see what you bring back to the Joy the Baker table. Enjoy.

  7. Enjoy your time off, you certainly deserve it. Can’t wait until the team returns, refreshed, relaxed and reinvigorated.

  8. Woohoo! You really are a trailblazer Joy! Cheers to relaxing, “Safe” motorcycle rides, and making a serious dent in your Summer Bucket list! See you in September!

  9. I recommend at least one day at the beach. Nothing taps into the joy of your inner child like building sand castles and doing handstands in the water. Come visit me on the shores of Lake MI if you need a lesson. #selfcare

  10. Hi Joy,
Yes, very Southern European to take the month of August off, and if you’d ever been in Madrid for August you’d understand why you see signs on doors saying “Gone to the coast, back in September”…..and it’s a long way to go to get there!
    Enjoy your well deserved holiday?

  11. Good for you! My family and I will be poking around your wonderful city, moving our daughter into a dated Tulane dorm, tossing words of wisdom at her, wiping sweat away?! Enjoy the month and we will see you in September!

  12. Have a beautiful and relaxing August! May it be restful, restorative and all the other things you desire. xo

  13. Good for you! Have a wonderful break and we’ll all be here ready to dive back in when you return in September!

    1. I’m so happy that you’re doing this! Everyone needs a break and this is the time to do it!
      Enjoy every second of August!!
