We’re Taking August Off

August 1, 2022 by Joy the Baker 36 Comments

Friends, hello!

Welcome to the weird and wonderful month of August.  Some of you are sending your littles back to school this month and I still think that’s downright criminal.  School is supposed to start the Tuesday after Labor Day and I don’t know why the world changed so cruelly.

We’re talking a break this month! There won’t be any new posts up for the month of August.  We should all go outside and find the shadiest, breeziest spot to halfway fall asleep after a pizza picnic.  Find a strip of sunlight on the floor and see about laying in it, Tron style.

I haven’t taken a concerted time off of posting in the literal 14+ years of Joy the Baker so this feels both terrifying and liberating. Abby says it’s very European and chic. I’m inclined to believe her.

We’ll all be back at the top of September with plenty of new recipes and autumn inspiration for you.  Until then, if you need a birthday cake or my favorite lemon bars, there’s a casual 14 years of recipes for you to dig through.

Have a wonderful and slow month. We’ll see you on the other side!

xo Joy and the team

Enjoy your Summer break! The idea of relaxing days during late Summer in a park sounds like a perfect European getaway. Tron and most cats have the right idea of sun/shade relaxing. I’m taking the month to feel inspired to do craft projects, sip cocktails, and take after dinner strolls.

Fat Tuesday aka Paczki Day

Happy Fat Tuesday everyone! We’ve arrived at the day before Lent, where everyone loses their minds and indulges before 40 days of meatless Mondays and fish fry Fridays. 5 Dishes You Might Set To Simmer This Weekend

In case you missed the memo, the sustained effort we’re giving this month is a medium-low.  In cooking terms, we’re all at a low simmer. Personally, I am going to save the rolling boil for September, if at all.  I can’t even plan that far ahead because again, I’m just at a simmer. In the…

Friends! Here’s the easiest, most roasty toasty Friends! Here’s the easiest, most roasty toasty Friendsgiving appetizer: Toasted Marshmallow Sweet Potato Bites and, our secret ingredient: @bluemoonbrewingco’s Pin Pint Seasoning. This Thanksgiving seasoning brings a hint of sweetness, citrus, and hops to the roasted sweet potatoes layered between butter crackers and toasted marshmallows. They’re a perfect salty-sweet bite! ⁣

#ad #21+ #BlueMoonSeasonings⁣
⁣
Here’s what you’ll need to make them: ⁣
-	Sweet potatoes, peeled, sliced ½-inch thick and cut into 1 ¾-inch rounds using a sharp cookie cutter⁣
-	Olive oil⁣
-	A generous sprinkle of Blue Moon Brewing Co’s Pie Pint Seasoning⁣
-	A sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice and ground coriander⁣
-	A generous sprinkle of flaky sea salt⁣
-	Round butter crackers (like Ritz)⁣
-	Large marshmallows, cut in half⁣
⁣
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Arrange sweet potato rounds on a parchment lined baking sheet and drizzle with olive oil. Toss to coat. ⁣
⁣
Sprinkle generously with Pie Pint Seasoning, pumpkin pie spice, coriander, and sea salt. Roast until tender, flipping once through baking – about 20 minutes. ⁣
⁣
Remove from the oven and, once cool enough to handle, layer each sweet potato round on a butter cracker on an unlined baking sheet. Top each with half a marshmallow. ⁣
⁣
Set the oven to broil and place the bites under the broiler. Keep a very close eye on the marshmallows as they’ll burn in literal seconds. Remove from the oven and enjoy warm or at room temperature with a Blue Moon Belgian White Wheat Ale, of course!
