A Peek Inside The Guest Room!

July 22, 2016 by Joy the Baker 49 Comments

The Bakehouse Guest Room // joy the baker

Hi friends!

If you’ll remember, a few months ago I moved from a tiny (petite and really quite charming) apartment, and into my first house.  I say my first house as if I’ll somehow get to buy a bunch… let’s just go with it.

I’ve been slowly putting the house together.  That involves hiring men stronger than me to hang shelves, glue tile up the wall,  unwrap rugs, iron bedskirts (an actual thing I did and was like… OK THIS IS ADULTHOOD).

I’ll show you more of the kitchen and living space soon (it’s still coming together), but the guest room is almost in order and I want you to see!

When I think of guests coming to visit, I want to impart a sense of calm after travel… a feeling like, if my guests rest their busy minds and absorbed the inevitable New Orleans humidity, they might think they were on an easy tropical vacation.  Ratan elements, banana leaf vibes, crisp and flowing whites, and natural fibers.

I partnered with Lulu and Georgia to bring my guest room to life.  We mixed light island vibes with contemporary lines and with a few added treats and definitely some chocolate chip cookies… I feel guest-ready.  (There are even fresh guest towels… and did I mention the bedskirt?  Yea, adulting.)

Here’s the skinny:

•  Soma Headboard combines ratan and leather and creates a nice.

•  Banana Palm Pillows because I love them so much, oh!  and Lulu & Georgia also has a Banana Palm Headboard that I’m very smitten with.

•  Gold Concrete Tower Lamps for modernity and substance and a very handy jewelry holder Meno Jewelry Holder for convenience and cuteness.

This is the mood board I worked from.  I didn’t go with everything exactly as it appears, but this mood board helped me determine a feel for the room.  It’s very helpful to see things together before I dive into real life.

I layered window treatments by playing a bamboo roman shade beneath a long white linen-y type drape.

The bed is covered in a simple thin quilt that echoes the window treatment. And live greens are important so I got an inside tree (that Tron thinks he should eat) (don’t worry, I keep the door closed).

Layered rugs add luxury to the room:   Gage Beige Rug (brings in a natural element)  + Katie O’Katie White Rug (adds softness and comfort).

The Campbell Bar Cart is my keeper of guest treats.  Magazines, a box of fancy toiletries, and games.  I love the clean gold lines.

Come on over and have whatcha need without asking for a thing.  That’s what the bar cart is for:  sparkling water, hard candies, bourbon, and The Best Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies.

I always forget soooomething small when I travel.

In the guest box (not a pie unfortunately) is air freshener, good lotion and shower soap, fancy face lotion, tooth paste, mouth wash, and a disposable camera for the fun times.

The Sauri Leather Ottoman adds a rustic animal element to the fern and banana leaf vibes.  This is one of my favorite pieces in the room and is also flexible enough to find its way into my living room should I need extra seating.

Well framed art makes a big difference, and never skimp on the pillows.  More is more.

This Hastings Mirror centers the buffetturned-dresser in the room facing the bed.

Blue is the book motif, with offerings in Southern cooking and vacation living.  Framed watercolors of New Orleans landmarks.  Hats, for decoration and actual wear.

And finally more green life in a Lyon Planter.

Trinkets that make me feel at home and guests feel welcome and settled.

Thank you to you and the lovely folks at Lulu and Georgia for being part of this home adventure with me.  There will be much more soon!  Have a beautiful weekend!  xo Joy
