Everything I bake once the air turns: the crisp and the pumpkin bread I make on repeat, the cookies that smell like the whole season, and the sheet cakes for when people are coming over.
Fall is the long season in my kitchen. It starts the first cool morning in September and does not really let up until December, and this is the list I work through in order. Start at the top if you want the ones I make most.
Start here, the ones I make most
Sit and Stay Awhile Apple Crisp is the one, crunchy oat topping, no fuss, good with coffee at eleven in the morning. Pumpkin Bread with Walnuts keeps for days and is somehow better on day two. Apple Cinnamon Texas Sheet Cake is what I make the minute anyone says they are coming over.

Fall cookies
Taylor Swift’s Chai Sugar Cookies are the ones that light up my kitchen every fall, soft and full of real chai spice. Browned Butter Oatmeal Apple Cookies are chewy with little pockets of soft apple. The New Classic Snickerdoodle is the smell of the whole season. And The Best Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies are the ones I make when I do not want to think about it.

Cakes when people are coming over
Brown Butter Pumpkin Texas Sheet Cake is enormous, nutty, and travels flat. The Perfect Cinnamon Bundt Cake is the one that makes a house smell like my parents’ house in the fall, which is the highest compliment I have.

Weekend projects, if you have the time
Overnight Apple Fritter Focaccia is the showoff. You start it the night before and wake up to it, and it is worth every minute. Apple Butter and Cream Cheese Kolaches are the ones people ask about afterward.

When you do not want to turn the oven on
Pumpkin Spice Tiramisu needs no oven at all and looks like you tried much harder than you did. Candy Bar Blondies are one bowl, one pan, and they eat the leftover Halloween candy, which is a service.

Breakfast that is honestly dessert
My Best Browned Butter Banana Bread and Bread and Butter Bread Pudding both belong here, and I will not be pretending otherwise.
